Best McDonald's, hands down. How can you get better than eating your breakfast in a DC3?? Original cockpit is cool to see. The look on peoples faces when they climb the stairs and poke their head in and realise you can eat your meal up there us fantastic! Clean and tidy, friendly staff. One of the biggest playgrounds too.

DC 3 parked right next to this outlet. Unfortunately access is closed due to Covid-19. I've been in side previously and you can eat your Big-mac and nuggets inside this super cool plane. Staff at the entrance waiting to see your vaccine pass to get into this outlet.

Haven’t been to McDonalds in an age so thought I’d have hit the drive-through for a Big Mac combo. Super surprised they don’t give you a serviette, is that new or just the very disinterested youngsters not paying attention? Food was good, service was fast but absolutely no customer engagement.

The DC-3 was amazing and totally unique, the best McDonald’s in the world. The food was just like any other McDonald’s in New Zealand. I didn’t go buy any food but just went to take a look at the McDonalds plane.

the WiFi was a little laggy, restaurant was unclean on some tables but they were very busy so props where props are due but they will need to hire people specifically assigned to commit to this all day long without stopping that's what its gonna take. food great as always, as long as the fries are HOT but they fall into the same trap the rest of them under this banner - serving chips that have sat too long other than that happy with my food but McDonalds in general lack a range of sauces avail... come on McDonald's!! get some spicy sauces!!!

Definitely the coolest McDonald's I've been to, with the DC3 plane beside it as the main attraction. Pretty packed when we went because it was school holidays but we did not wait long for our burgers. Clean and tidy with nice and friendly staff.

Two days in a row... No frozen coke no sugar. We visited two days in a row to get one in ridiculous summer heat only to find out the machine was not working. Weekdays so not sure why they couldn't get it fixed. Very frustrating...

World's Coolest McDonald's? I'm not quite sure about that. Maybe when it first got the airplane, but I'm not sure about now. The plane has tables and chairs to eat at, but nothing else except the closed off cockpit area. It was really hot in the plane with not much air circulation on a warm day. Food was delivered to the table in a reasonable time

Ok. So. Another Maccas review. What could it possibly say? Well, I was really happy hour vigilant they are with dine in customers having a vaccine passport. Also, I watched then clean the ordering screens 3 times in the time it took to eat my burger. Keeping vaccinated people safe is important. Thank you Maccas.

Worlds coolest McDonald's. They have converted an ex plane into a prop. They have a wonderful play area for the kids. Be ready to spend some time if going with young kids. They wouldn't want to come out.

A great way to enjoy McDonald's, when you are in a DC-3 with the kids marveling at how cool it is. The history of the plane is an interesting read while you are up there, though my youngest son was disappointed that the pilot seat and controls were not accessible. The actual McDonald's resteraunt is a modern, refurbished one, that is very clean. The staff are very friendly and quick with delivering the orders. Just as you expect.

Very cold and not fresh burgers and chips... Even when I asked them to redo part of our gourmet order, still felt and tasted like a week old $h!t Only think worth visiting this place is a cool old airplane as part of the "restaurant" and kids playground when it is rainy.

Strange that in covid times we were made to use the self ordering machine that was being used by everyone with no cleaning in between customers. Place was generally tidy but tables etc looked like they could of done with a good wipe when we were there.

One of McDonald's most special restaurants, eating in a plane. The restaurant itself is clean and tidy, looks well. The plane is a story of its one, especially for kids it is fun. In the summer it's too hot to sit there, in winter it's no problem and a special experience. Every visit to Taupo this is the restaurant where we will definitely eat once.

If you get the chance to stop in at Taupo, I highly recommend you go and have a burger at the world's coolest McDonald's! We ordered large but it came fairly quickly. You can also eat in the plane if you wish to! (between 0900-1600). I thought it was a cool and fun thing to do, channelling your inner child and seeing this awesome attraction! There's also some information about the planes origin inside of it.

Absolutely amazing McDonalds. Touch screen order points are easy to use and the staff are really friendly. The outdoor play area and eating area is clean and you can even eat in an a plane built into the restaurant. The toilets are also really clean. I think this is possibly hands down the best McDonalds we have been in.

McDonalds is arguably McDonalds however this restaurant won coolest McDonalds for a reason! The kids play ground is fantastic however that’s not the main attraction, that is saved for the actual plane still fantastically restored and maintained. So well that the propeller and wheels still turn beautifully. We were lucky enough to meet an old pilot of the plane on the day who was visiting from Auckland. McDonalds have also nailed the touch screen ordering including table service - Slick.

Fast food is a bit of A necessary evil and convenient for some.Today myself and a friend where in Taupo and decided we would eat at Mc d's.I was firstly surprised to get a real nice greeting by the young attendant big smiles waited a couple of minutes and food was delivered. Self proclaimed 'coolest McDonalds in the world' says the sign on the front door. I don't think I could agree with that but it was pretty cool to have a 1935 plane in the restaurant. You can walk in and have a look around, read about the plane's actual working life (air nz, military and more) and even eat your meal inside the plane. Apart from the plane it's a typical McDonalds with a standard menu and a mccafe also and good, clean toilets.

Really busy on Saturday evening, huge queues in the drive through. The food is exactly what you would expect again, it's Maccas. Inside the store is fairly typical too, except the old DC-3 plane, which is a bit of an unusual feature. Overall it's pretty cool, but I can't wait for all McDonalds in NZ to put the fast back into fast food.

The staff members wereabsolutely lovely and the store was spotless! We were travelling back to palmy and stopped in for breakfast. Even though they were run off their feet with customers, they still were polite and friendly. The older woman who was cleaning up was so friendly and thanked my little sister many times for putting away other peoples seats, even after I had told her it was no trouble and that we were just doing the right thing and what others were supposed to. Thank you all so much for making our experience with McDonalds Taupo a memorable one!!

As a Brit abroad finding they had triple cheese burgers was a delight! Tasty and juicy, not had one since Euro ‘96. Coffee was proper barista made not machine. It was clean and tidy and there’s a plane. All in all a good Maccies experience.

Large almighty Texan large combo with a fuse ice tea for the drink. Burger was very good, ample sauce to Cheese and bacon ratio. Chips were perfectly salted, were hot and fresh. Only thing that was a bit of a let down is the food service. The lady that served me didn’t greet me in any way as most do. I rolled up to get my drink and all she said was “window up when you get your food.” No hi or at least a please somewhere in the sentence. Not the end of the world by any means but I suppose if I didn’t feed back at all it would just take 1 person to be having a bad day and explode if the same lady spoke the same sharp way to them. As a customer it’s nice to be greeted, it’s nice to be talked to as if you are valued. I expect to be treated like a customer, it’s part of the service. Anyways just food for thought. Regards

Finally actual fast food. Two ladies were in drivethrough taking orders so all we had to do was pay. This is the fastest Mcdonalds Taupo have ever been, as usually they make you park and takes ages waiting. This method was easy and food was quick.

This is a one of kind McDonald's. There isn't another Macca's that has a plane in the kids area on where you can explore and eat your meal. A sight which needs to be seen.

An excellent Maori young man helped my kiosk order. He was so friendly, helpful and respectful. I was getting a bit irritated with managing the order by myself and because of his attitude and help I left very happy and well looked after.

Generally always hit the spot, a couple of their staff are absolute stars! Incredibly polite and very very rarely an issue! The playground is an absolute hit with the kids and the plane is unique. I'm upset about the constant upselling/order changing at this store. Day 1: changed my flat white to large without me asking. Day 2: changed my flat white to a latte without me asking. In the scheme of things, these are relatively minor issues. Food came out quickly and I didn't get sick from it, which is all that I ask for.

This McDonalds were run off their feet yet they managed so well. We did not wait long at all and our order was brought out to us. The playground is very good and obviously the airplane was very popular - hot as hell on a peak summers day but still worth it and a lot of fun :) I applaud the staff for going above and beyond and running the restaurant like a well oiled machine. This place is crazy busy! Also known as the World’s Coolest McDonald’s. We ordered from the self service machines it didn’t print off a ticket once the order was complete so we were forced to remember what our number was and wait for the other orders to be fulfilled before ours. We only ordered four ice creams which the wait for was about 5-8 mins as it was a very hot day and others wanted ice cream as well. There was no order to getting your desserts either. My husband went up to the counter and explained we hadn’t gotten our receipt and we were unsure where to wait or when we’d get our order. The lady was kind enough to make our ice creams right then since there was so much chaos in the lobby and again no true order for how we were to get our treats. Would recommend because their ice cream machine isn’t broken like 99% of them are in America.

Good place and good service. The plane is the highlight but it only opens at 9am. Got plenty of parking too. Might be bit crowded at times but the location is also great as it's very close to Taupo lake. Specially an awesome place for kids. Must visit if you're in town.

As usual of any outlet of McDonald's even this one was good. A model of an aircraft is kept on the outside to attract the crowd. We being vegetarian, we get limited option here. Service is fast. Staff are good. People every where in New Zealand are good. Even here staff were helpful to provide us a vegetarian meal.

It's the world's coolest McDonald's... :) The plane (which I assume is the origin of that title) is actually cool, so make sure to check it out when you're there. You can eat your $1 ice cream in there. The plane closes at 4PM, so make sure to be there before that or it'll just be a normal McDonald's experience ;)

What can be said about McDonald's. It's convenient. If you dont want the hassle of waiting in line to order you can use the self-service system. Easy to follow instructions, just read through properly in case you end up buying something you didn't want. I gave 4 stars because I don't like Mac's personally but I go for the kids who love it.

We are dining at this McDonald as it’s branded at the coolest McDonald in the world because of the aeroplane sitting beside it. Too bad it’s on renovation right now and kiddo didn’t get a chance to visit it. As usual we ordered kids meal for kiddo and some special one (Kiwi Angus Burger, kind of limited edition). The serving were wrong for the kids meal as we ordered fruit pack instead of fries. We did a quick check with the store manager and he acknowledge it and pass us a pack of the Apple slices. Thumbs up for the quick helps.

The best McDonald's store I have ever been to! They brag about being the "Coolest McDonald's in the World" and I'd say they're one of the best all round! Very efficient service, I've never had to wait long for my food. It's always been good and the McCafe produces excellent coffees. With the additional fun of having the option to dine inside the plane, this is a family friendly fast food joint. With spectacular views over Lake Taupo, and if you're lucky and it's a clear day, even Mount Ruapehu!

We called a nearby lady and she took us to the counter, checked for our order and rather then leave us standing she gave a table number and our meals promptly arrived. It gets 5 stars as it’s probably the best McD’s in New Zealand considering it would be hammered in peak seasons and would struggle with typical seasonal issues. Being a tourist destination and drunk late night patrons causing large wear and tear on a daily basis would be frustrating. Taupo locals are a bit rough around the edges and you would no doubt have troublesome staffing issues. These operators deserve to do well. Well done for running place at a such a good standard. Shame you got rid of the lounge seats but I can imagine it probably got abused by budget tourists & grey nomads using the Internet all day long. 10/10 Taupo Maccas

The most exciting McDonald's I ever seen in my life. With an old plane in the back it locks very awesome und inside you have some plug sockets and very good wifi. Super busy in peak tourist season. Really cool DC3 plane with interesting history (former WW2 plane made in america!) You can eat up there, and the kids got super excited about it. Otherwise what you would reliably expect from a McDonalds chain. I did the fancy fancy build your own burger menu, and when they delivered it to my table, and I then asked for salad dressing for my side salad, the guy came back with a selection of three types, and I felt a million bucks.

What stands out with this one is you can eat in a DC3 aeroplane at no extra cost. Prices are the same as they are elsewhere in New Zealand and if you like McDonald's you'll like this one but the location makes it special.
