In Jan 2022 we held a reunion in Taupo for 23 people. The Friday night function was held at Plateau. From the initial discussions right through to the event itself, Kate (the Manager) was very helpful. We were given use of the private function room and part of the outside deck. The platters we enjoyed were amazing and the staff went the extra mile to ensure that our function went smoothly and was enjoyed by all. I highly recommend the venue and the team at Plateau if you are wanting either a casual meal (as we have enjoyed in the past) or want a great place to host a function for special people!

Where to start ! The ambience was lovely! The service is 100/10, very efficient, kind, funny, and she did an amazing job (well done!) The seafood and snack platters were amazing and just the right amount to share between 5 people. Between us we had the steak, the calamari and prawn salad, the pork and the venison.... followed by the desserts. This is an superb place to share a meal. The food was to die for, mouthwatering and filling. The flavors are sensational and the ingredients very fresh. Definitely will be dining here again. Keep up the awesome work x !!!!!

Wow I am so pleased we went in. We were a bit early and the place was empty. We sat in a well laid out garden bar. The food was really good. Antipasto plate was generous the curly fries well cooked and the chicken moist. Thanks to the friendly staff for their attention. We will be back.

Interesting evening 😊 Food from 2.5 to 4.5. Service 2 - 4. Reason Food. Ordered one dozen Natural Fresh Oysters, after 30 minutes got served Oysters Kilpatrick, we declined as waitress admitted error. 15 minutes later we got served 4 Fresh Oysters as a starter of the starter 😋 another 10 minutes we got the other 8. Main course was market fish Snapper, not sure if this was Snapper 😳 we liked the fish but I didn't like the whole dish. But waitress confirmed it was Snapper and she was very friendly. Enjoyed the evening maybe give them another chance

Came for lunch during what looked to be a busy period and the staff were brilliant and attentive and the customer service was very good. The menu is diverse and the food was high quality and very tasty, I will definitely be returning next time I am in town I can’t recommend this place enough.

Although the experience was pleasant, the staff were superb, and the place was packed, we feel there were some issues that need addressing. Firstly, it took 50 minutes for our entree which was the snack platter between 3 of us. It was huge with a great variety, and tasty, but, 10 minutes later we got our mains! Way too soon! I had the steak and although the meal was very good the steak hadn't been rested and bled though all the purees etc. My wife was disappointed with the free range chicken as it was a little dry and the veges did not taste very appetizing. To be fair she didn't know what to expect with an unknown dish. The meal portions were great though.

Went here last Sunday and absolutely loved it. Amazing food, amazing and very prompt service. We had one waitress who enjoyed having a joke with us and made us feel right at home which added nicely to the beautiful set up. We were really made to feel like valued customers. From the share platters, to our main and dessert the food was of exceptionally high standard. One of the best places to eat in Taupo - in my opinion.

Went here for my mom’s birthday. Food was delicious and yes, locally sourced, but it didn’t seem very NZ, aside from the pavlova. I think it’s just that, in this more global culinary world, everything is just a slightly different « contemporary » cuisine. That is: There was the usual steak, rack of lamb, pork belly, beet salad, roasted broccolini, fries... Things you could find at many other « contemporary » restaurants around the world. This was probably one of the nicest restaurants in Taupo; just wish they had a better view than say, a parking lot, a McDonald’s, a Burger King, and a little bit of the lake. I think the McDonald’s actually had a better view of the lake!

We had the seafood platter ($55) & catch of the day ($33; swordfish & clam chowder) to share for lunch. Seafood was fresh & delicious especially the green-lip mussels in coconut broth. Swordfish was very tender. I accidentally left my personal belongings in the restaurant, only to realise it after I had left the restaurant. the service staff went out of their way to return them to me. This place was a wonderful surprise. We arrived around 3.30 pm on a Tuesday. Staff were friendly and the space is tasteful. The outside area is nice. It's both open and feels secluded from the street. We ordered the beef tataki, fish ceviche, scotch fillet and the chicken sliders from the kids menu. The tataki was fresh and on point with delicate flavors. The scotch fillet was cooked perfectly, but the dish stands out thanks to the additions of carrot and fennel puree, jus and bone marrow butter. The ceviche was very interesting to say the least, with many ingredients I would never think would work in a ceviche, like corn, avocado and coconut. Even the kids dish was tasty and thoughtful. So many places offer the same boring options, and its so refreshing to see a kids meal that some effort was put into. The menu here is full of creativity, infusion, color and thought. I consider this place to be a gem here in Taupo and can't wait to see what other dishes come out their kitchen.

Friendly stuff to informed me that they didn't have oysters: I guess they tried to save time if I order a seafoods platter which seems popular for. Lamb burger with chips was sufficient meal for a quick lunch. Also Ordered a Pho, noodles soup, without chicken but vegetables. Only vege on the soup were, coriander and spring onions. Oddly there were a lot of peanuts, whole peanuts, not crushed ones. But I finished whole soup. The the rice noodles was slightly under cooked. The stock or broth of the soup was too oily for me and somewhat lack of flavours. In the lady's room, paper tissues and powered hand dryer was replaced by a lots of hand towels. Very impressed indeed. I loved it. I may go again with my friends who like to eat sea foods, just to try theirs famous seafoods platter!

Very, very good service. We also had a good view over the lake from our table. Drinks were delicious. It took a while to get food, but we went there on the new years Eve, so, no complains. The place was nice, had a more luxury feel than other Taupo restaurants. Great food, great atmosphere. I went there during the day (around 1 Pm a couple days before new year), there was quite a few people there at the time so I can imagine how packed the place would be during peak hours. There were not any noticeable problems that I experienced when I was there. The place was clean, including the restroom. Overall, the experience was superb.

Tonight, on a busy Saturday night we couldn’t get into any of the other nice restaurants at short notice and this place was super accommodating and managed to fit us in even though they were really busy. Amazing food, came to Taupo for the weekend and tried to get in as many highly rated restaurant meals as possible. This was by far the standout and I must say compared to one of the competitors down the road ( I wont name but rhymes with Dine) it was far superior. I can honestly say the food was the best my husband and I have had dining out and we eat out a lot! The pork belly was cooked perfectly, chicken breast was juicy and tender. The desserts were just delicious I have been singing my praises since. Bravo to the chef and staff working the night of Friday 10th July. We had a great experience here! We forgot it was Valentine’s Day, but wanted to have a nice dinner and celebrate having hiked Tongariro. Staff was incredibly accommodating, and despite being pretty packed, found us a little table and served us. Food was a bit pricy and it was tough to find good plant based options, but we made due with a selection of tasty small plates (the price and lack of vege based entrees is the only reason I knocked off a star, otherwise everything was stellar!). The views were pretty good and the ambience was pleasant, they also had a great looking patio. I wouldn’t personally go back, as there weren’t a lot of options that appealed to my husband and me, but I could definitely see a steak and seafood lover absolutely adoring this place!

Only one annoying thing for me the restaurant phone continued to ring so load it interrupted, and was irritating. I suggest they turn it down as I do not even know if there was music! Waited over an hour for food. But it was a busy Saturday night. The staff were very nice and understanding. We were offered a free round and 2/5 free deserts. The food was delicious but the portions were a bit small. About $35 for a main, $15 for starters and dessert and $10 for a beer. I will go back in the future :)

I’ve never left a review before but that was superb. The lamb rack was the best I’ve ever had. The staff were spot on, offering to refill drinks as you finished them but not overwhelming and atmosphere/music was perfect. Will certainly be back.

My husband and I had dinner at Plateau last Saturday and the food and service were fantastic. I had the duck which was divine and hubby had the pork belly. The food was incredible and our server was the perfect mix of friendly and helpful without being overbearing along with having a quirky sense of humour that was memorable. Honestly the review would be higher if rating the food only. We only had the salmon entree and the cauliflower side along with a spicy tomato juice and a coffee. All of that was largely good, if not just a little ordinary. The greeting, however, soured us both to the experience. We arrived at 5pm after an incredibly long journey. The restaurant had a few tables full, but was at minimum 70% unoccupied at that early hour. The host immediately checked his book and announced to us that "If we hurry, we'll be fine, but the table is booked at 6:30 - so you'll need to hurry." We probably should have just left. Couple that with the wait staff taking around 10 minutes to even approach our table (we were trying to hurry, after all) and we found the service marginal for a place that is going out of its way to appear upscale. The other reviews of this place are mainly good, so our experience is likely unusual. But in this business, it might be worth a reminder that a paying customer is still a paying customer. It's odd to be in a position of feeling as though the restaurant is doing you a favor by allowing you to eat there. There is reasonable competition in Taupo in the high end restaurant space where we have felt very much welcome. Just not here.

After a gorgeous day of cycling around the lake, Plateau bar and eatery finished our day off perfectly. Service by Cherish and staff was excellent. All 4 diners at our table said their meal was delicious and just the right quantity. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting and there's no suggestions to top off a fantastic dining experience.

We had such a lovely meal at Plateau- it really does live up to the hype. The food was exquisite- I haven’t stopped thinking / talking about it since. It’s all about the textures! The cerviche with all the flavour and the crunchy quinoa (how?!) and my partners pork belly with delicious braised cabbage with the surprise (and tasty) edition of crunchy beetroot crisps. To the dessert that made me do a happy dance while eating it- peanut butter chocolate fondant served with pistachio gelato and a honey comb nut brittle on the side. Each dish was so clearly thought out for both flavour and texture. Oooh and don’t forget to order sides. The kumara gnocchi was so comforting! Cannot wait to visit Taupō and eat here again.

I don’t know what is going on with NZ’s restaurant scene but the standards are really setting the bar high. Fresh produce sourced locally, paired with the right cooking processes and accompaniments - it’s not a difficult thing to pull off. Plateau does this very well. It’s a pub/bar as you enter, but it’s a good cover for the wholesome Kiwi cuisine the kitchen is pumping out. Had the warmest welcome anyone could expect, and attentive but not intrusive service throughout the dinner. The chef demonstrated very good restraint with portion control leaving you just lingering for a little more after each course (someone has been studying Thomas Keller’s philosophy). The lamb rack is Taupo local, tender as, and succulent. Highly recommend to try this place more than once
