Bought family pack for $28. The BEST fish I had from any fish n chips shop. Lots fish, thin layer of batter. Delicious. Had our high with a view by the lake.

Food was fresh and good. However, I ordered coleslaw and this was not packed with my order. Disappointed as I'd made it known to them that it was our first time there and we were travelling through. Didn't have time to head back and claim for the coleslaw.

This has been our favourite for the last couple of years. Our visit this week we saw a change. The packaging smelt very fishy, yet the fish tasted fine. Also the new saveloys arent good, please go back to your normal supplier. Still great overall.

Love Fish Box fish n chips. Never had a bad experience, always great not fatty/oily and generous with quantities. Thanks for being consistently great

Best Fish & chips we have had & we frequented Fish Box 3 - 4 times while at Taupo. Delightfully presented in a white box & put into a brown paper bag - hence the name Fish Box - perfectly cooked. 10 out of 10 Jenny & Bruce

Haven't tried too many other fish n chip shops in Taupo, but we don't need to, as Fishbox do the best around. Always fresh, never greasy, chips are superb and a generous portion. Snapper is beautiful and again, always a generous serve. I have to mention the burgers! Delicious - "home made" patties and tasty fresh ingredients. Friendly and efficient service too, with the added bonus of being able to order online.

Great variety, friendly and quick service. Our meal was ready quickly and the overall quality was good (we even got a few bonus items in our family pack). Special mention of the deep fried Camembert - delicious 😋 🧀 Although I didn't use it, they also have and online ordering option which would be super convenient in future.

After a day sledding on Whakapapa a superb burger, Trevally and chips beside the lake was the perfect end to the day. Thanks Fish Box!

Oil needs to be hotter as the chips and fish were a bit fatty. Upgrading my review. Fish and chips were cooked a lot hotter and tasted so much better. Well done! Keep up the good work

Great fish and chips. So popular that the wait was very long (we were told) but worth it to eat the delicious food by the lakeside.

Not cheap. But bloody good .. there was three of us we had so much food it wasn't funny... Come and check it out see for yourself. If you're hungry this is the place to be

The food was fresh, crispy but not too oily. If you want extra greasy fish and chips, this is not the place for you. There is an additional 1 dollar surcharge for ordering and paying online which you don’t find out about until the checkout. I was happy to pay considering the great value and portion sizing.

Nice food but didn't listen to phone order and then hanged up had to ring back give my name and then gave us what we didn't order and no even thinking of fixing to right order nit impressed

Great food! Great service! We ordered 2 pieces of snapper and chips. We got 2 parcels one chips and one snapper. The snapper was beautiful (restaurant quality) and there must have been 6 to 8 (small) pieces in the parcel. We are visiting Taupo but we will definitely be back next time we are here!

This is the best fish and chips I've ever had hands down

I first tried these takeaways a year and a half ago after a Rugby trip. I ate in my Ute outside and was blown away how yummy the fish, chips and burger was and so was my son ! I come back past with the rest of my family and it’s still just as yummy. In my mind there the best fish and chips, and no one else comes close. I’ll always make sure I stop there and eat there food any time I’m passing. Very nice people too !! Thanks

This is the best fish and chips I have ever had! Even better than the award winning shops! The snapper was just so fresh! Everything was just exactly right, not oily at all. They must use good and clean oil. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal 👍👍👍The service was great too. We asked for vinegar, they put it in a small container instead of pouring over the chips. We will go there again if we visit Taupo again 😘

The best fish and chips in Taupo and good positions not bad prices either. It looks very clean and the staff are very friendly. Our NZMCA in Taupo always buy fish and chips from there when having a really in Taupo that includes a fish and chip night Always well cooked, hot and delicious.

Friendly service. Really chill. More of a takeout place than a sit down and dine. They do have 2 tables just outside the store facing the carpark. But you do get a pretty good view of the nearby mountains from here.

Love this place. I travel to Taupo for it from Hastings when I crave really good fish n chips. I love their fish always fresh for me, their coleslaw, chicken burger 👌 and chips. Beautiful to go to Rainbow Point for fish n chips with the sunsetting on the lake.

I really enjoyed having the snapper. The chips were also nice and crispy without tasting like oil. This is a great place to go to if you want to grab a quick lunch or dinner. There's also many lookout spots nearby for you to enjoy your feed. Overall great service and was well worth the time.

I asked Google to find me fish and chips in Taupo and I chose The Fish Box based on generally favourable reviews. My girlfriend and I arrived and were ordering our meals shortly after. The two menus are fairly all over the place, and they have a ton of options (possibly too much?) for a fish takeaway. Nevertheless, we made sense of it all and only waited 5 minutes or so for our order to be completed. There wasn't a whole lot of space to dine in, but a few chairs and tables outside were a nice surprise - otherwise we would have had to eat in the car. The fish was very well cooked and you could tell it was fresh. The batter was also crispy and the coleslaw was alright, but a bit boring in my opinion. The portion was also very good for the price. The only thing I really didn't care for was the fries. Unfortunately they seemed like standard frozen fries, and I imagine that fresh cut chips would have elevated the whole meal. Overall a good place to stop to get the fish and chips craving satisfied!

A great place to be able to order online, and then pick up, for a couple of local "oldies". Have never been disappointed with the food since the current company have taken over. Hang in there, please!!

Excellent meal, great variety, and a proper kiwi salad - had beetroot. Fish was beautifully cooked, and was ready on indicated time after being ordered on line.

Best fish and chips. Still fantastic after 3 years away. We ordered snapper and terakihi in batter. Yum! We ordered a small scoop of chips. Came to about $14.00. Excellent value for money. We will be back next time we stay in Taupo. Staff suit the place. Calm and like a well oiled machine. Great teamwork.

Went there after searching for good fish & chips places in the area. Such a treat! The portion sizes are ridiculously large. Yummy fish (in the fish and chips) and other seafood. We got some shellfish fritters and deep fried scallops too. I recommend all of that. The only thing we didn't like (or actually disliked) was the deep fried sausage that came with the family pack.

Service was okay. Food was okay bit too much salt and took quite awhile when it wasnt even busy. Chicken burger bit costly for what it is but was okay. Chips nice.

Best fish n chips in Taupō, lovely fresh fish that you can have battered, crumbed or grilled. Huge selection of other fried goods. Great burgers and the best thing is you can order online! The online menu has great pictures and is easy to use on A phone, it also has live order tracking which is awesome. Highly recommended!

We bought the family pack and it was good. The fish wasn't fishy but tasted very fresh. The fried sausage were a little weird for us, but we enjoyed trying something that must be a local eat.

Found shop online and ordered through their online ordering service which was nice and easy. We ordered a fairly large order and they forgot one of our pieces of fish. Fish was very good nice and crisp on the outside but fresh and tasty inside. Chips were a bit of a let down as they need to be crisp on the outside and soft in the inside. The were soft on the inside but also on the outside. We only drive 2 mins or less from the store so obviously not crisp out of the fryer. They were busy though. So overall ok.

Nicely cooked fish and chips. The fish was a nice size for one person. The chips were pretty generous so you could share a portion between two. The fish and chips are cooked to order so you may have to wait a while. I waited around 10 minutes. If waiting for your food to be cooked might be inconvenient ask the staff how long it's likely to take.

Chips ok. Need to be better seasoned and fried for a minute longer. Grilled fish was fantastic. We waited 50min for our order in peak service time. Be warned.

Nice fresh fish. Thin crispy batter but very greasy. I love thick potatoe fritters but these were quite thin. Id rather pay a little more and get a decent sized slice of spud.

Gluten & dairy free batter on fresh fish. These were the yummiest fish and chips I've had and my daughter thought it was great to be able to have takeaways that are safe for her dietary needs. Thanks Fish Box ❤️☺️❤️☺️ Edit 2020: The Fish Box no longer does gluten free batter. It still has lovely food and the new owners that brought it in 2019 are friendly and nice. I do like that they use cardboards boxes and paper bags to pack the food - eco-friendly and handy if eating off your knee while travelling and easy for children to hold.

We arrived from out of town and looking for fish and chips. Had read about the Fish Box and was near our airbnb. Arrived at 3pm, they were closed as on Monday and Tuesday, they open from 4pm-8pm, and Rest of week 11am-8pm. Lucky for us, the staff started setting up and accommodated our order! Had the special Fish of the day and the calamari. Both fresh and tasty! Will go by again before we head out of town. Can't beat the value!

Wanting an easy dinner, we biked to The Fish Box after reading other reviews. We were surprised beyond the reviews! The fish, of which we had snapper and gurnard, were fantastic! The lovely wasabi mayo and chili mayo were delicious adddtions to our fried and grilled fish. The chips were golden and the slaw was crisp and super tasty! The ladies creating all this tastiness were wonderfully helpful. My son had an angus burger with beetroot relish which he devoured. A brilliant place to go!

The first time I got fish and chips from here it was amazing and I knew that I was going to be back. The second time my wait was so long, over an hour when I was told 25 minutes. I got a refund after they said that it was ready and just needed to be wrapped for the second time.

In Taupo for the Ironman and needed to carbo load the night before. Very efficient. Minimum wait time and the fish and chips that we had were very good. We had a vote out 6 adults on the meal and it hot 5/5. Will use again as frequent visitor to Taupo

I had an Angus Beef n bacon burger for the same price as a big chain version. Mine was on a great artisan bun, the patty was huge and the bacon delish! Loved it thanks.

Family combo has no value to it at all. The fish tasted like mackeral which was nice and firm but nothing special, saveloy sausages and potato patties were lame fillers, chips were greasier than Joffrey, and the squid rings felt overpriced. All in all, maybe return to get ala carte items which would give you better variety and value.

We had a little wait about 15 mins but it was long weekend and a very popular place. The service was lovely and the food...OMG..amazing!! We paid the same for a big mac combo at mc Donald's and we are still hungry. Thoroughly enjoyed our burgers and wedges...chips etc...highly recommend this place and we will definitely return.

Average experience - soggy chips, dry fish should have upgraded but can’t justify $7 a fish for a family, batter ok, terrible crab sticks, minimal sugar and cinnamon on donuts!

First time customer best takeaways by far . I would drive parst 50 fish and chips rite out of the way to come back here.

Flounder was pretty much inedible as none of the bones had been removed, I'm not sure if that's usual for flounder or not but there was just no way of eating it. Place seemed nice though.

Really good fish and chips with a nice crispy coating on the fish. Maybe a tad less salt would be good. The Family pack is huuge - we'll be having it for dinner and breaky tomorrow.
