m.Just gets better and better! It's been some time since we've eaten here and tonight did not disappoint. Tempura eggplant (a total winner) ginger and prawn dumplings and spring rolls an absolute delight for a shared starter. My main was beef cheeks and noodles... Yummy! My dad had the duck pancakes which were also delicious. We finished off the dinner with a creme caramel. Absolutely mouth wateringly good and excellent service. Well worth a trip into town.

M.🌱 Vegan review
Although the menu listed 3 vegan options (dumplings, cauliflower and eggplant dip), cauliflower turned out not to be vegan, as they added cream or dairy to the recipe. On the other hand the jungle curry was vegan, though listed as vegetarian, which was a nice surprise.
Ordered all 3 to share for 2, which was plenty 👍
- Eggplant dip with wonton chips - unusual and surprisingly awesome take on dip, loved it. The waiter offered more chips, which was very nice
- Dumplings were good, nothing special, but a good medium option 🤷♂️
- Jungle curry - fantastic, lots of flavour, soft tofu, beautiful on rice, 5 stars, would come back for it
4 stars because i felt the wait staff were rushing us off the table, but i couldn't tell why, as we weren't told that the table was booked after us. They asked if we were done with the food 5 times although we were clearly still eating 😕
But would come again definitely, nice ambiance, easy to book, delicious vegan curry
E.This place is busy so I’d recommend you book ahead of time. Waitresses were excellent, they have very good timing. The food was so good I didn’t want to eat anything the next day! The Pilsner craft beer and Japanese cherry wine was so good! If you like fusion and flavour something new and exciting I’d recommend you come here. Surprisingly, very good value for money! We Would definitely come back here

s.Great food, prompt service and a great waitron. But on the pricey side but we’ll worth the splurge. Our waitron served us efficiently and thankfully did not “hover”. We will definitely dine there again.
J.We had 7 dishes, beef cheeks is good, interesting sauce and combo 7/10, lamb ribs is the best dish 9/10; however is pretty small dish with only 4 ribs wrapped with a pc of leaf each with nuts and sauce. Thai green curry taste like green curry from a Thai restaurant but looks like a kids size portion 7/10; prawn dumplings are very average 6/10, pork belly is good 7/10 with interesting sauce. The summer salardand the wok tossed veges are jokes and overpriced. Overall experience: wefeel a bit ripped off especially the Thai curry is already $34 (kids size portion) you still have to pay extra $3 for rice or naan bread while most places already included this as part of the curry. This place is overpriced and portions are tiny, ideal to impress your date but not value for money 4/10. Staff are great 10/10. The dishes came out extremely fast 10/10. Shame about the prices and the portions. 8/10 to come up with creative fusion dishes.

S.This is one of my favourite restaurants as have had great experiences in the past (not sure if something had happened between wait staff and front of house? But waitress forgot drink order and front of house was a little frosty) the food was super yummy highlights were chicken curry, ceviche and desert.
A.I has previously had a delicious cocktail here one days during their happy hour (3pm-6pm) and decided to come back here for lunch and chose the spinach, potato & chickpea curry with a side of steamed jasmine rice and grilled garlic naan bread. It was the best meal I have had in as long as I can remember. It was tasty and flavoursome and was very well balanced. As a vegetarian I was impressed with the choice of food I could select from, and the service was great. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
M.We had an early dinner here to celebrate a 21st birthday. I had the tempura eggplant dish with the Sichuan caramel sauce. Totally amazing! It's one of their signature dishes so it's always on the menu.
Our waitress was absolutely superb - she had tried most things on the menu and was able to describe how filling a dish was and what flavours it had. She kept our glasses topped up with water and was really friendly.

R.We returned after being away 2 years and found Macau is better than ever. The food is served on plates meant to share, some appetizer-sized and some larger. We had edamame, the kokoda, curried salmon laksa and the san choi bao lamb ribs. This was plenty of food for two people and it was all wonderful, but we have the say the lamb ribs, served boneless in lettuce leaves with a cashew caramel crust, were absolutely out of this world (thankfully someone told us to get these or we may not have noticed them on the menu). Macau is easily among the top three restaurants in the Bay of Plenty. It's also beautiful inside and the service is excellent.

D.Absolutely loved this restaurant in the past, We drive from Rotorua to dine here every few months because the food is usually amazing. I'm not sure if the chef has changed but the food this evening wasn't upto the usual standard.... steamed pork buns & crispy chicken were delicious.
Pork belly was really bad, chewy & dry with plain blackened Brussel sprouts.
Also the duck curry was very strong with an over powering flavor & wasn't pleasant to eat.
Not worth the money or the trip.
S.Food and service were outstanding. The jungle curry is a delight for vegetarians. The entrees are ample so if you go for the tapas style, you'll be full in no time. Great choice of craft beers and wines. Very recommended.
S.So delicious it made my wife giggle while she ate. We managed to catch Happy Hour so got a craft beer, Aperol spritz and the yummiest edamame we’ve ever tasted for not much at all. Compared to the place next door any way ! Even got offered extra crackers for the eggplant dip and all round amazing service. Life is good ! A vegetable jungle curry and Salmon poke bowl are on their way - can’t wait !

t.Best place for food in Tauranga it's designed to share each dish, so that you can experience the full flavours Macau has to offer, dessert menu could be improved. Being a qualified chef in French culinary arts I can tell you from experience that you will not be let down while eating here, I got to Macau 4 times a year at least. It's never on my mind to think of eating elsewhere. The plum wine could be cheaper per bottle as it's 75 dollars, I buy that brand for around 30. Per glass I can understand but I mean 59-60 would be a much fairer price.
T.So much to love! Friendly staff, wonderful ambience, delicious menu and yummy cocktails. Really enjoyed the upstairs lounge after dinner too. Beautifully done with a great outlook

E.Really good food! We hadn’t booked but got a seat outside at short notice. The Korean Chicken and no less lamb ribs plus the prawn toast were standouts. We all enjoyed our meals so the food was good and met expectations. Had dinner with a friend here last night and was really happy with the overall experience. Excellent service and food. The amount of shared dishes recommended for two people was spot on.

The first visit we had a large group and pre ordered our meals, they were brought to our table shortly after we arrived and everyone was extremely happy with the food quality and service. A.Hadn't been here for a few years and went twice in a week recently for business dinners. This place is fabulous and is busy every night of the week so make sure you book. Both times we just ordered various dishes for the table and shared which worked well. I can reccomend the tempura eggplant, the prawn dumplings, the Asian greens, the pork belly, the spring rolls and the beef madras. I will definitely be back!!

m.I was craving some Asian flavours and Macau came up trumps. Everything on the menu caught my eye but being by myself I couldn't get too carried away. The bao bun, Korean chicken, Vietnamese slaw followed by tuna cerviche were immensely satisfying. Topped off by the excellent service and beverage list. I would go again in a heartbeat and highly recommend.

This place was super busy on a Thursday night so was really glad we had booked. Our waiter was great - helpful, friendly and there when we needed him. We went for for the gold banquet which was $50 per head and was more than enough food so really excellent value. I loved everything on this set menu apart from the Edamme Beans (not my thing) I especially loved the tempura eggplant snd the rendang beef cheek. Would definitely recommend and I will be back.

Cons: Waitress was clingy and pushy, to the point of being quite annoying. Mains were a bit slow out to the table. My dish was overpriced for the portion size (King Salmon).
Pros: Food itself was excellent. Other dishes were reasonably priced, the pork belly especially. Lovely venue.
Edit: The steamed pork buns were to DIE for.

Recently moved to Papamoa from Western Australia. Our wedding anniversary was on 30th Dec so we booked a table for lunch.
Service and food did not disappoint. Love the range of Asian style menu items, and suited our love for sharing food.
Has a great outlook street and harbour view.

l.Oh my God, this place is probably one of the best for service and enjoyable dining. So accommodating for my mum in her wheelchair and having checked before we booked the team knew when we arrived where to guide us and no problem for access. The food was very very good and I would definitely recommend this venue 100%.

S.Great meals, good service. A little pricey. Meals came out quickly. You will need more than one main per person, and the idea is to share them. I recommend the lamb ribs.
D.Service was pretty average, had to ask for cutlery twice. Felt like the waitress didn't listen to us and considering we were the only customers in the place we weren't offered a second drink during dinner, glasses sat empty for 15 mins. We normally eat two courses but flagged the second and found another restaurant for that one. The main course was we did eat was OK.
p.ME and my friends came for a weekend trip in Tauranga . We stop by in this great place . Amazing food with good ambience and views . Sudhir the F&B guy had served us with positive attitude . And great service he made sure we been look after . Great thanks to chef Jeff the chicken curry was amazing too . Five stars to this place for good food and service .

N.I think they had our table booked for 8pm! We didn't book but we walked in at about 6.45. The 4 of us were served (3 deicious starters and 3 amazing mains plus wine) and were ready to go by about 7.55. And despite it being gcb very fast, it was very enjoyable.
C.The portions were a little small and dishes were a little on the pricey side considering. Some of the dishes would not be enough to fill you up on their own. The food was delicious though, I highly recommend the eggplant tempura.

The food was better than average but not as good as it could have been, the waitresses were lovely as was their service but the prices were to steep in comparison to the food and portion sizes. T.Macau offers an exceptional menu, great cocktails and wonderful service. Choose to dine downstairs in the restaurant, or make your way upstairs to Macau Lounge where you can enjoy food, wine and views over the harbour. The Tempura Eggplant is a must!

J.Came here for a celebratory dinner (we'd just bought a house) and left a little disappointed. Generally, it's over-priced and the quality of the food is uneven. Small dishes: Neither of us liked the very bland kimchi balls with mayonnaise, but we did like the beans. Big dish: Beef cheeks were good, although very expensive. Drinks: Good George beer was excellent. Main problem was service. Waiter asked what we thought of kimchi balls and we told him the truth. He apologised profusely and repeatedly (every time he walked past) to the point it became awkward. Then he stuffed up our order. He talked us out of ordering two big dishes ("they're big enough for two people") so we cancelled our order for the pork belly. Our order: Beef cheeks and two bowls of rice. Female waitress brought us: beef cheeks, pork belly and one bowl of rice. Arrgggh! Then there was much tooing and frooing from our tables as this was sorted out. Also had quite a bit of trouble getting attention from waiter/waitress through the evening. We'll probably return, however, as they might have just had an off night and we might find dishes we like other than just the cheeks through trial-and-error.
M.These guys are AMAZING!! Cannot speak highly enough of them. A last minute change of venue for pre-wedding get together left us looking for a place to go. They went out of their way at very very short notice to provide us space. When the rain came down they opened upstairs and ushered us in and put staff on the bar upstairs. B.We come to Mt Maunganui for our annual 2 weeks at our timeshare every Nov & Macau is always on our must do list .This time it was still excellent- charming staff & delicious food . The wee pork dumplings with ginger were so tender & the wee bit of a kick the ginger provided was perfect. The spring rolls were crisp & full of flavour . My husband enjoyed his pork belly ramen & my lamb San Choi Bau was tender although did get cold v quickly . The fried rice pudding part of the chocolate mousse was innovative & enjoyable .

P.OK. Let's get one thing straight. The food here is excellent. Only problem with that is that you want more of it. It's a tapas style restaurant and the little players that come out are fantastic. But at the prices you leave the place hungry.
