W.Nice Cafe in Waihi Beach waterfront. Very popular and always busy. Day menu had lots of variety and there is also a Kid's menu. Drinks came out promptly after ordering, followed by the Kid's meals, then mains. Very tasty and good value portions. Indoor and outdoor seating options

E.Beautiful beach front cafe and restaurant. I went for dinner as a party of five. Very popular so highly reccomend booking. Food was delicious but service was a little slow. We were booked for the start of service didn't really have a full restaurant to blame it on. They also have two lovely cats on site who love a good pat but don't wander around dining guests.
H.Friendly service and stunning view. Full of people. Had to wait for a seat even at 2PM.

I.Our favourite cafe at waihi beach with the view, and great breakfast lunch dinner menu. A bit on a side from the waihi beach centre, which is good. There's a large carpark, bike racka, ice cream shop outside and entrance to the beach. Just perfect.
K.Fast friendly and efficient service. You never have to wait too long for a table even at the busiest times. The menu has a good range of options including vegetarian and vegan options. There are some cabinet options as well. Lovely view of the beach and lots of parking available in the area.

I.Coming to Waihi beach on a rainy day. We found a cafe next to the beach. It was surprisingly very nice and cosy. The food were tasty and enjoyable. I loved my chicken frittata. The cafe is facing to the beach. Very nice view. Definitely will come back on a sunny day. To dine on Flatwhite Waihi Beach and walk along the beach.

m.Bit of a disappointment. Have dined here before and was fine but standards have certainly slipped. Staff dress quite sloppy, and they were obviously not very well trained. Food was pricey for the quality. Can I suggest owners book a meal at the White House in Te Puna. Similar prices, but miles apart in service and quality. Please up your game, you can't trade on old reputation. Good for a casual lunch but forget evening dining.
s.Perfect place right in front of the beach. I came here alone and I had a great time just watching the waves while I enjoy my meal. The lady who served me (Cailyn i think is her name), was very professional. I like how she checked and offered if i wanted starters and dessert. She was constantly checking every table if everything was ok.
L.Came here for dinner two evenings in a row. There aren't many options for dinner around Waihi Beach but that doesn't matter when there's a great restaurant like Flatwhite. Amazing location on the beachfront too.
The truffle chicken was outstanding. The roast pumpkin salad, and the venison on the specials menu (tenderloins + pie) were also very good. I'm less inclined to recommend the Beach Wellington, which I didn't enjoy as much as other Beef Wellingtons I've had. The desserts we had - apple tarte tartin and banoffee brulee - were delicious and well worth ordering.

However, the dish I had was a bit disappointing - one very small overcooked poached egg with the two avocado on toasts and plain leaves were just a bit light of a plate.

T.Fantastic food and coffee. Great wine selection. Kid friendly in the cafe with kids menu, colouring in and change table in the bathroom. And right on the beach with a Kapiti ice-cream van outside. We went back a second time.

O.Been here many times over the years when flying back to NZ. Even been to a wedding here. The view of the beach is amazing and they have extended the restaurant.
Ample space, clean, well decorated and very busy but you can always find a seat as they are quick with delivering the food.
The food itself is outstanding. Tasty and well seasoned.
Definitely eat here again. Then off to the beach for a walk or swim.

H.Really enjoyed our visit to Flat White. Got there at opening time on Saturday morning and had a perfect spot in the warm sunshine. The coffee was really enjoyable but the best thing was these amazing scones. I've literally never had better anywhere. So light and fluffy. Just a very enjoyable morning out in a beautiful part of the country made even better by the great food and attentive staff. Highly recommended
P.Superb food and location! Restaurant right overlooking at Waihi Beach, we had a late dinner with sunset views. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered the seafood chowder as a starter (it was delicious!), the catch of the day and a pizza, all were excellent. Reasonably priced. Totally recommended!

For the first breakfast visit I tried the Belgian waffles with berries. This was an amazing way to start the day.
On our final night I had the duck spring rolls which were amazing and the pork belly bao buns. The pork belly in the baos were probably the best I'd ever had.
My partner had the seafood pizza and was very happy with the flavour.

We came to Waihi just as a stopover on our trip camping and needed a place to eat for dinner and found this hidden gem. We’ve lived in Auckland for a year and this is the best meal we’ve had! J.Firstly, I think one would struggle to find a location that could beat this place! If you love beaches then find yourself a table on the deck and watch lazily at the surfers on the horizon while you sip a hot flat white! Glorious! We had a 4, 6, and 8 year old who were given menus to colour and crayons that actually worked (what is up with places that offer coloring instruments that feel like coloring with concrete!!) I digress. The food selection was good, but although it was midweek and outside of school holidays this place was busy at the peak of lunch time and our meals took ages! Far longer than our relatively patient kids could handle. We would go again but closer to brunch time and take our coffees away afterward to sip through a stroll on the beach!
B.An open-space cafe, with a good variety of choices on the menu and sweet slices etc in a cabinet. The coffee was very good. The cafe could be too noisy for some people with everyone in one space and not great acoustics. Nice views of the beach and friendly efficient staff.

M.Really popular on a Friday and Saturday night for dinner, so make a reservation. The view is fantastic,the ocean is breathtaking. Menu is fresh and extensive and the service is good. There is a separate bar area which also has live music if that is more your scene.

Fab food, fab coffee and fab atmosphere. Thats before considering the location and the beach.

A.I still can't believe that this is the same cafe that was in the tiny little "back bar" of the current Flat White. It's great. This is some of the best cafe food you'll get anywhere, with some of the best views. Everything I've tried on both the day and the night menus is top notch, really good quality restaurant (not cafe!) food, the wine list is great, the service is friendly, and the coffee is good.
DO NOT GO IN HIGH SUMMER UNLESS YOU ARE HAPPY TO WAIT (Christmas/New Year). That's not a criticism, but this restaurant gets busier than any restaurant could reasonably handle.

D.This is a well oiled machine. Very busy for good reason. Soon as you walk in the door you are taken care of, put at ease and escorted to a table. It’s a pleasure watching how this cafe works, all the staff work well together and you notice the initiative they display and they are also very attentive to customer service. Table service is the way to go and best of all the food is great!

S.After a beautiful walk through the Karangahake Gorge Railway Loop, we had our lunch at Flatwhite.
It was humming.
Staff were lovely, plenty on the menu to choose from and my hot chocolate with coconut milk was devine.
Food was absolutely delicious.
The location was amazing. It's so beautiful to be able to eat and look out at the sea.
We're from Papamoa, and there's really nowhere along our long beach where you can find the same view from a café.

We have just visited on a long weekend, notoriously busy/ booked out these weekends but were able to book in advance online and our service was not affected by the business at all. Do book ahead for weekends, especially long weekends.

B.Been to this place a couple times. The first time was very nice and the food was amazing. The second, not so much. Don't get me wrong, the wait staff and service they provide is always on point. But the food just let them down a little bit. My pizza was burnt on the bottom in places and usually I wouldn't mind but this was all I could taste. Managed to get through it but I won't be ordering a pizza from this place again.

We've been there on a Monday night with four people, the food was amazing and our waiter SJ was super nice and helpful.
We had the lamb rack, the fish of the day and the beef Wellington - everything was really well prepared + they have a really good choice of wine.
We were the last people who left the restaurant and they waited very patiently and didn't gave us the feeling we had to leave.
We read all the reviews before and were very surprise by how good everything was - whatever the issue with all the bad review was, the fixed it!
We will be back :-)

Hubby had lambs fry and bacon with mushrooms. Rated it one of the best he had had. Friend and I shared popcorn shrimp and calamari. Shrimp salad was amazing. Calamari cooked perfectly. Will definitely be back.

S.Went here for breakfast and got the beach breakfast, food tasted great, staff was great, service fast despite it being very busy, great atmosphere it's really a great looking place with good views. My only issue, the breakfast wasn't big enough, probably double the rostis (which are the best I've tasted),bacon and add an extra sausage to fill up hungry guys like me.

S.I would like to thank the owner and staff of the Flat White Cafe very much for making my Dad's 75th birthday extra special last year (February) with the extra effort you went to with the beautiful cake, lovely food and funny hat. Little did we know that it would be Dad's last birthday as he sadly passed away 5 months ago unexpectedly. Thanks again for making it a memorable day my family will never forget.

S.I really enjoyed an afternoon tea here, looking out over the sea with great service & amazingly light fluffy scones. My only criticism would be they can be a bit sweet with sweetened cream & jam. R.Nice food, a good range of choices, and what we had was good. It's a great location. I wouldn't call it cheap, fancy Auckland prices even. Also very disappointed in what I would call their dog hostile policy for the outside dining. I get that some yapping rats can annoy the patrons, but when you have one guide dog puppy and one ex-guide dog puppy without a coat you are not welcome. Seems a bit harsh.

M.Location, parking, service and theme, all were great, easily the best in the area. The time passed quickly from the time our table for 8 was seated till we left. Stephanie, our table waitress was lovely and engaging, as were other staff that attended us. This is a busy place and it's obvious why. The ambience of the ocean is drawn in through the clear wide views and the theme is perfectly matched with the location. Food was served in good time and it was in keeping with the value range for this restaurant.
I ordered Ribeye steak with Mushroom Sauce, as did the lady I sat next to at the table and we ordered our steaks a little differently. We both thought the steaks were cooked to perfection, but the Mushroom Sauce was a little weak and the wafers of mushroom could be a little beefier, so we missed the earthy taste we were hoping for, never the less, we did enjoy our meals.
The lady opposite me ordered seafood chowder as a mains and it was too much for her, so another at the table finished off what she couldn't and they both had the same impression. Aside from the mussels in shells, they described the chowder as closer to a potato broth with a little seafood, so unfortunately, it failed to get their approval.
The place is stunningly laid out and the theme and ambience is their ticket to stardom, but I really think with their menu, especially in light of the seafood chowder, take your time to read carefully and query the wait staff on any element that is of importance to you before you order.

K.This place is so good. The food may seem a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it. I had the Belgian Waffles, Calamari and a Beef Burger. All were super delicious (especially the waffles).

We were meeting a friend's family at Waihi on a Sunday afternoon at about 2.30 pm. But all the cafes were closed. We, therefore, called Flatwhite Cafe on Waihi Beach, who confirmed they were open. Our saviour!
When we reached the cafe, the place was almost full - which showed its popularity. Although we only had tea/coffee etc., the place felt like a good one.

Only one criticism would be that we've been here twice in the past week, and both times it's been really hard to get table service quicker than 20 mins to put in your coffee order. This is probably mostly up to table service being new for everyone, but all in all, once your order is in everything seems pretty quick and seamless. Lovely view, great coffee.

N.Booked early for 6 people (5pm), as we were having a family dinner. We were welcomed with smiles and laughter at the door. Our waitress was excellent, attentive and friendly. We had two kids pizzas (they were massive), two fish and chips (also massive), a salmon and a fish of the day. Everything was excellent all well cooked and more than enough serving size. Highly recommend.

We had dinner there 13/12/2020 to celebrate our Granddaughters 7th birthday.
The meal was outstanding, service impeccable views to die for.
Only suggestion is if you offer sparkling water mention that its an extra cost.
We would definitely be back when we visit again.😊👍

Both were good but hers was better. They did the birthday song for a gentleman while we were there and that was fun too. We grabbed a couple coffees on the way out after the beach at the cafe in the back and they were good as well.

C.We've been here probably around 20 times over the last 15 years. It used to be a small little cafe at the front and then during a large renovation they moved to the local surf club and now in a large space since a few years. The views are obviously amazing but I do think the food has definitely suffered over the last few years. It just felt there was move love put into it when it was a small restaurant. I go out for dinner a lot in Auckland and it's similar to an average experience there; ok and expensive. True, I am vegetarian so options are often limited. I had the falafel salad. My wife the vegetarian burger. It also feels the owner lost a bit of his Mojo though the waitress who looked after us was fantastic. The owner used to show us the plans back in the day he was working on the renovation but he was so unfriendly today. Ah well, it might be the impact of COVID-19 which is all hurting us but next time we're in Waihi Beach we'll explore an alternative. Don't know if there is anything else around but we'll see.

So 3 stars for lunch and 5 for dinner. Dessert was pavlova, and it was nice, but not amazing. Staff were super friendly and the view was great.

Lady at counter is quite cold and unfriendly.
Ordered two dine in coffees which came in takeaway cups.
One was a small when we ordered a large.
They said they’d change it for us but never did.
Had to ask at the end when we were finished and they explained the counter person had put through a small - not really our problem when we ordered a large...
Butter for muffins were in a takeaway packet - seems very wasteful...
Also no high chairs which makes it hard with a baby!

L.A great Waihi Beach cafe. Very diverse menu. Great location at the beach front, with floor to ceiling windows on the beach side to maximise the great view at the location. Extremely efficient service, as there are many experienced staff. Always very busy, but they manage to serve very quickly. There are vegetarian and vegan options but the vegan burger is not worth your while. All other food is great. Great cabinet food as well. Location, menu diversity (with generally very good food) and expediency are the reasons to go to this cafe.
J.Really nice hot flat whites. Great setting. The lemon relish in the fish taco was far too dominant and had a dish detergent taste. Overripe avocado in the rosti stack was a put off. The beef burger was average and could’ve done with more flavour. Dog friendly which was great!
M.This place has great character and atmosphere, right on the beach. I particularly enjoyed the slide show of old photographs of locals from the early 20th century. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered salt and pepper squid and chips. The chips were excellent. The squid was was tough and thinly sliced rings, tasty enough but I've had better so many times. My friends ordered salads which descriptions on the menu all sounded amazing but they all said they were drowning in dressing which spoilt it for them. Everyone loved the hot chips.
G.We went there for my father's 97th birthday for morning tea. The coffee and food was great but what was most appreciated was they made his day very special. I was able to bring my own birthday cake which the staff brought out accompanied by a birthday song and then lit the candles for him. He loved it and it made his day. Thank you so much!

I sent a coffee back, with no question about what was wrong or to replace it when sending it back. Then still wanted to charge me for a coffee i never drank.
I feel the lack of competition around a small town has lead to a mediocre service that just passes.
S.It's a nice place, good location for beach and sea view. Food is decent, coffee is nice, strong coffee though. Good selection of cabinet food. It is busy though, so expect to wait during busy periods.
G.On our way back from the gorge the hotel we wanted to stop at was closed being 1st Jan so we pushed on to waihi beach as a friend had mentioned a place called flat white cafe. Well at first we could not find it but GPS got us there and we were pleasantly surprised. The location is right on the beach....and seating was very accommodating. The waiter was there in a flash to take our order of beef burger and pulled lamb sandwich. It arrived well presented and tasted divine. The chips were nice and crisp. We had a lovely crisp white wine which complimented the meal.
Keep up the good homely atmosphere.

R.Generally is a good place although they have an annoying habit of trying to make you wait to be seated - its easier to just ignore this and find a table. The setting is superb and as we usually go for coffee/tea and a muffin this is good. Pity about the crappy music they play though. Music should be low and suited to the customer not the staff. Service is cheerful and reasonably prompt although we are usually there during the week when the pressure is off. It is a pleasant place to sit and watch the ocean and the new design and built has been very well done.
A.Great atmosphere, service and view. Meals were nice but my lamb had cooled down quite a bit before being served. It was replaced with out hassle and was delicious. Would go again. Staff were great.

E.4 of us arrived for lunch and we had a great meal and followed up with a very good coffee. Great views of the beach which would be even better on a sunny day. The bowl of seafood chowder was huge as was the bowl of coffee which is one up from large!

S.My husband I visited this cafe some time ago prior to the upgrading of the premises.
The improvements have been well done and in keeping with the beautiful beach just outside the main doors.
We were pressed for time and requested quick service, which we received. The meal was very well presented and my avocado and prawn salad was very tasty. My husband ordered a kaimoana pizza and he enjoyed this. Coffee was good. Price was fair.
The only reason I didn't give five stars is that the flies were rather annoying and judging by other posts on here, this appears to be a problem. Not too sure how they would deal with this as fly spray is not an option when eating. Will be back.
J.While it was a little unorthodox to be asked to wait for seating in a cafe, the friendly staff members were more then happy to escort us to a great seat and explain how the place works. Service was fantastic and super fast, while the food was top notch and well worth the stop if you are traveling in the area. Highly recommend the chicken burger or the sliders.

They usually have very nice wines as well.

A.This place is the bomb. Great food great service. Arrived at 8.25 pm ordered a steak and a red wine took my dog for a walk along the beach. Came back sat down and dinner and wine were served at 9pm. Awesome end to the day.

J.I think it's the best cafe in waihi beach. You can not bet the location right on the sand dunes. You will have to queue during peak times so come early or after the rush. It's busy because the food is superb. We have only being for breakfast brunch but everyone enjoys the food, cabinet food looks superb and coffee is excellent. My only problem is I always order the same meal so I am yet to try everything, probably need to come every day. Maybe this summer.
C.Took Dad there for Father's Day brunch. Food was amazing and the coffees were huge! Also grabbed some rhubarb shortcake and a custard square for afternoon tea. Best custard square I have ever had in my life and I had to fight my sister for some shortcake. Amazing.

K.Saturday evening for dinner was unbelievably outstanding. 100% for staff, ambience and Seafood Chowder to die for. You have to try this place even if only for coffee and the view.
One day of our holidays left and it will be dinner there again tomorrow evening 👍

A.Fantastic view and friendly staff. Unfortunately the vegan salad was served with Chicken and Halloumi cheese but was supposed to have Falafel. They apologised and brought a new one, but there was no falafel and it had some strange candied walnuts instead. Coffee was cold. Best to go when they are not busy. We may try again one day.
A.Enjoyed this place more last year when we visited as a larger group... Long wait tonight, not as good as last time. Was busy and the outside overflow seating area was neglected. Main meals took over 45 minutes to arrive. My vegetarian burger was disappointing...
F.To be fair the place was packed but it still took 45 minutes to get our meal. A tad too long. My kingfish dish was overcooked and undersalted. Service was great otherwise. BUT please change those schoolroom size chairs you have. They are hideous to sit on. Would go back again on a quieter day for another shot at it.
N.Great food, coffee & service right on the beach with the surf crashing in just metres from our table. What more could you want? Fine weather would have been one thing and a more pleasant lady behind the counter taking payments would be another thing.
J.Espresso was on point. Steamed pork buns were fantastic. Impressed.

K.Great decor and location. Unfortunately, their flatwhite tasted like a milkshake. When I enquired the lovely waitress said “oh that’s because all our regular coffees are single shot as standard”. This is crazy for a cafe that has named itself after NZ’s most famous coffee! The food was great, atmosphere cool but the coffee sitch blew my mind. Ask for doubles and you’ll be good to go. :)

T.As they say...location location and location. You can not beat this place for its location right on Waihi Beach. The coffee is pretty good too along with custard squares - real kiwis tucker. Not so good was the rather warm bottle of Margrain Pinot noir, so so Salt & Pepper Squid and ok Prawn Pizza. Waitress staff were friendly and service good. Dunnies top notch, even for a wheelchair user like me and ok ramp to the door with no lips. We will return...
