Great food, and a really nice staff member serving us tonight, who was very accommodating to us. Reasonably priced too.

I read through the other reviews before posting mine, and although it seems as if there might have been some QA issues associated with the place, its service and its food in the distant past, our experience seems to align more with other more recent reviews. It was our first time here, so I only have this one experience to go one - but here goes nothing. Apart form the carpet which looked a little warn, the place was really neat and tidy (the carpet was also clean, just wear and tear I guess - but still clean). The table was very presentable with a clean tablecloth, clean glass table top, clean cutlery and clean glasses. you've probably guessed it by now, but the cleanliness of a place goes a really, really long way for me, and you are free to read some of my other reviews to see how I score places that aren't! Anyway, the service was really good, and the waitron was really friendly too - she even picked up on the fact that my wife is expectant, and when placing our food order, took the initiative herself to assure us that all my wife's food would be properly cooked (my wife is a bit of a steak lover). Albeit so, the food orders arrived very promptly, but then I do also have to mention that it was a very quiet day in the restaurant with only one other table for a late lunch around 2 pm. The quality of the food was really good too, and the portion sizes were alright - not too small, but neither too large either (maybe this can improve slightly) as the glass of wine I ordered also felt a little inadequate to qualify as a "glass of wine"). Nevertheless, the food was really tasty and delicious, so the quality did make up for the quantity. For desert we shared a crème brule, which was also really good. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also very tranquil and peaceful, with soft piano music which made for a great quiet afternoon lunch. All things considered, I definitely would recommend having lunch or dinner here, as there is great selection on their all a carte - like escargot, which is a rarity in Wellington. Overall our experience was very enjoyable

This restaurant has the best confit duck in the world. And everything else is excellent too. The braised red cabbage side dish has become a favourite, it's delicious. Lovely for a quiet dinner with friends and family, or even just to treat yourself :)

Great food, we popped in for a dinner after checking the menu fantastic food from soup to fillet to confirm duck and a great dessert menu. Definitely recommend and we'll be coming back!

We have often dined at Aubergine and have found that the service from the waitress is always very friendly and efficient. She explains the menu very well and is attentive to our requests.
The food is fresh and cooked well and we enjoy the relaxed environment with a homely feel
We will definitely return

Had 3 course Christmas Dinner. Great selection of food. Delicious.

Fantastic flavours. Well presented. Highly recommend.

Have only been there once so far, but enjoyed it. The scotch fillet and salmon mains were absolutely delicious. Unfortunately the included side with each main is minimal, so you will need to order additional sides, which does push the price up a bit, but I guess that is fine dining for you. The beer selection is pretty bog-standard and it would have been nice to have some more exotic selections. Friendly staff, delicious food and a pleasant venue make it worth checking out.

We enjoyed a lovely lunch here - salad with a really nice dressing, yummy goat cheese crostini, scotch fillet and prawns. Great food, simply but well prepared and would go back in a heartbeat if we were still there.

This place understands formal dining. Visited from UK with wife to entertain local son and his girlfriend. Good meal and easy to talk. Afterwards able to visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens just opposite and then down in cable car. Thanks Joe

Having read earlier reviews I was anxious about having a family meal here last night. Nothing raised in previous reviews was in evidence. The meal of lamb rump was superbly cooked and professionally presented. I would recommend Aubergine as a high class quiet quality restaurant in Wellington. This was definitely not a student flat experience.

Service was excellent though both my partner and I were very disappointed by the scotch fillet. It was cooked perfectly to our liking but the piece of meat was tough and dry. This may have been a supplier problem and could be temporary.
Dessert redeemed the meal and was excellent!

We were there only for coffee and dessert. Desserts were excellent, service great and, we so enjoyed the adult atmosphere. Quiet background music allowed us to have an unsurpassed conversation. I will definitely go back for a full meal.

Beautifully prepared food in pleasant surroundings. This is a perfect place to have dinner with friends if you want to converse without having to shout. You can actually hear what is being said without having to lip read! Thumbs up!

Excellent French-style food and efficient service. Quiet - good for a conversation. The earlier negative reviews look odd.

(Translated) Almost 3 years ago, we were here for New Year's Eve. Maybe the waitress was annoyed, maybe she had only one bad day. Anyway, it was a disappointment for us. In Europe, such kidnappings often happen, but here in New Zealand it is not commonplace and therefore more conspicuous. There's a point deduction for that. The quality of life was average. Unfortunately not according to the occasion. Only the prices corresponded to the occasion. The location is remote but cozy.
