Reviews of Boulcott Street Bistro

We were there for the Sunday roast. Excellent food and service, reasonable portions. If you're particularly hungry, you'll need to add some sides. The potato gratin was decadently soft, buttery and creamy, not something your cardiologist would recommend.. but everything in moderation - delicious decadence included. The Sunday roast isn't your average pub roast; think of a very posh way to serve roast and you might get close. The roast varies and it was sirloin when we were there. The Sunday roast includes bread, wine, roast with some veggies and a dessert. We had a lovely desert of meringue on ice cream and sorbet, with what appeared to be raspberry coulis, a nice refreshing way to finish. The restaurant decor is semi formal, with fairly close seating, music was light and upbeat; it felt upmarket informal. Coffee was very good, served in a nicely warmed cup. Overall a very nice dinner, Sunday Roast was excellent value for money.

I was here for Wellington on a plate, second year in a row. Both times, the food and service was outstanding. I tried the smoked baby beets with goat cheese and crayfish marseille for the starter and main. Both were delicious. I also tried the oysters and margarita, they were soooo good. I am a big fan of good margaritas and their version of it made me so happy. Overall it was a 5 star experience, both times.
N.
Service was great, food was even more outstanding. We were there to taste the special courses - WOAP 2021, everything just prefect. Thanks for the outstanding experience😁
N.
Visited as a couple last night, service was great - staff were attentive and relaxed, they seemed genuinely interested that you enjoyed yourselves. Food flavors were delicious, everything had its own taste. I recommend the Smoke Out The Hive cocktail with the Venison Tartare, amazing! We imagine that this is the type of place which is consistently good, nothing adventurous but sometimes it's not needed. There's not many places I would say this and truly mean it, but I'd be happy to go back again. I encourage everyone to go and will be recommending. Thanks
S.
Food and service are excellent. The venue is rather tight on space, and so booking is essential. Half price champagne on Mondays was a nice surprise 🥰
A.
We had an incredible dining experience at Boulcott Street Bistro on the 20th of December.
The maître’d, wait staff, bartender were incredible and the food was excellent.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Thank you team.
R.
One of my favorite places in Wellington. Consistently excellent all the years I have been visiting. The service, the food, the ambience - all perfect. A must visit for every occasion & if you don't have an occasion, go anyway!
F.
Delicious food and very nice atmosphere. Service was also outstanding.
I had the calamari which was nice, especially with the sauce on the side and for my main I had the aged beef fillet which was amazing! For dessert I had the creme brûlée which was also excellent.
L.
Outstanding from start to finish. Absolutely loved it, food and service both excellent. My second visit and can't wait for the next time we are down Wellington way.
J.
Found this hidden gem with the best food, cocktail and wine selection on our travels through New Zealand. We enjoyed the calamari entree and chicken and duck mains. We splurged and had the speciality dessert of the evening as well.
E.
Really great staff. The atmosphere is memorable. So much hustle and bustle but I found it is enjoyable at the same time. I had the steak. The meat itself was amazing! The chips weren't much to talk about but the bread was nice. I got a side of asparagus which was fresh and still had a crunch to it. They were really tasty.
As the entree I had a special which was crayfish ravioli. I found the pasta was cooked perfect but the filling was overcooked which made it chewy. The flavors were great, but the texture of the dish let it down.
The creme brulee was one of the best I have ever had. It came with shortbread which was so short it was delicate and fragile and cut up strawberries.
There were a great selection of drinks with some inhouse specialty drinks.
K.
Finally made it here after many years of living in Wellington. Many friends had rated it as a place to go. On the upside, the atmosphere was nice, the staff were great - attentive and friendly. Unfortunately we found both the starters and main meals bland and tasteless and portions were a bit on the small side, which was a real shame.
May have just caught things on a bad night, but no plans to rush back too soon.
C.
A really execellent meal. The service, ambience and food were all brilliant. Being a fussy vegan can sometimes be a bit hit and miss for non vegan places but the beetroot first course, gnocci main and vegan Eton mess dessert were all so good. The home baked sourdough was some of the best I've ever tasted and would love to get my hands on a bit of that starter. Great waiter and lovely greeting too. Thanks all for a cracking evening.
b.
What a gem in the middle of Wellington, fine dining at its best, relaxed and attentive staff, food cooked to perfection
D.
As others have said, a cosy and elegant restaurant in a truly lovely Victorian timber building (Plimmer House).
Excellent al la carté menu and fine wines. The calamari with anchovy dip was sublime, whilst the slow-cooked beef cheeks with caramelised shallots just fell apart to the touch.
Amazing flavours and attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. A perfect experience.
R.
Gorgeous food, great service. My son had duck confit and I chose the beef. Great wine list also. Loved the ambient music. A perfect night
K.
This amazing restaurant is set inside a Victorian house. Oozes warmth and sophistication when you step in. Casual yet professional service. One of the best meals i’ve had so far in NZ. Price maybe a little steep, but definitely worth a visit especially if it’s a special occasion.
A.
So delicious! Very accommodating to dietary requirements. Wonderful service from the waiter and maître d.
I can recommend the french onion soup and the espresso martini.
S.
Great service, brilliant staff, and a super cute location, but the vegetarian dish was pretty boring. A lot of peas.
D.
Nice night out. Attentive staff. But was it food I'd rave about? Two of my courses were far too salty. Did the chef taste these dishes before serving? So, a mixed bag for me. Lovely place though. I'm just not sure I'd go back.
J.
Wonderful meal, lovely venue and great service. Friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be back and recommend you to our friends.
P.
Well worth the occasion. We had the three course menu with wine matches. The food was immaculate as you expect from a bistro of this Calibre and reputation. Service and wait staff were faultless and we're suitable impressive in their knowledge of the menu and the accommodating wine match options.
I had the hand made mushroom ravioli entree, the lamb shank main, and the poached peach and pistachio crumb dessert. All of which were well balanced and complimented each other. Especially when you have the roast pumpkin with golden saltanas side dish to go with the lamb shank. It was all Devine and went well with the Barossa Shiraz that we feel in love with.
They also do a fantastic flat white made from a newly refurbished antique coffee machine.
So, when you feel the need to indulge and with to feel a little special, it is worth coming here to appreciate fine dining without the potention.
J.
Romantic place to dine with your partner. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Food selection are abit pricey but worth every penny!❤
D.
Great, small little place for getting a nice drink and some good food. Their breaded pork tenderloin and they're calamari were very tasty, and they're dessert was very good. We tried the Almond Dacquoise, and it had a very nice texture and nutty flavor. The building was a little difficult to find, so just be on the lookout for a random Victorian style house surrounded by large buildings.
R.
Went for the $20 T-bone steak lunch deal. Amazing. Great meat. Ordered some chips and broccoli, they were good too. And a glass of wine each. Was very nice, good service. The bistro had a great atmosphere. Recommended for a smart lunch or cosy dinner.
n.
Quaint place with nice vibes and was really packed on Saturday night. Good decor and friendly staff. The food was good and service was good for a busy night. I'm told the French onion soup is really good. Tip: make a booking if you need a table as the place Can get busy.
D.
Fabulous food, top notch service form start to finish. Highly recommend.
S.
I don’t often sing such praises about a place that doesn’t really need it but this place is good. The food was amazing, they have a great wine list and the cocktail I had after dinner was a clever take on one of the classics, easy to mess up but presented and tasted like one of the best. The first thing I noticed was that it was quite expensive but I was working out of town for the evening and though I would treat myself. And a treat was what I got. I recommend the short rib although if you are hungry you will need a starter and the bread supplied. Try here, it won’t disappoint
S.
It's fab not big meals but beautifully cooked great service very enjoyable worth taking the time to eat ☺️
M.
Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food and drinks. I enjoyed it and recommend this venue at a small wooden house in middle of higher-rises.
S.
Meal good.
Table distancing a joke.
Patrons standing in 2's and small groups having drinks near the bar.
T.
Friendly reception and service, excellent food and lovely environment. A good choice to celebrate our 45th Anniversary. The loss of one star is only because of the very noisy guests; we'll pay another visit hoping for quieter guests. :-)
R.
Beautiful service, within 5 minutes of walking in we were booked in for a table.
Chose to go for a wander while waiting but when we came back on time we were seated and food arrived within 10mins of ordering.
Quality food. Amazing bar staff Regan super friendy in helping me choose a wine.
D.
A story of coldness, cold night, cold when we walked in but very relaxed and welcoming. Now I'm being a bit picky, the red wine was cold, first world problem, but great wine list. Clams were cold with the fish dish, but fish was great. I had the pasta, wonderful texture and flavor and the granny smith tart tatin was delicious. Pricey but would go back.
P.
Food was great as expected, perfectly cooked with lovely flavors and plated with great attention to detail. The venue is compact but quaint without being stuffy or old fashioned. What really stood out was the service, our waitress was extremely quick and noticed what we needed before we did! She was very friendly without being overly patronizing or fake, and worked hard to keep everyone around us, including a big 60th birthday party, happy at all times. Considering the restaurant appeared totally full, all 3 courses came very fast and drinks were also attended to very quickly. So hats off to the front of house team, very well trained and organized to deliver the best guest experience. Thank you! Keep up the good work.
s.
Great restaurant to have a nice quiet lunch. Creative menu and great flexibility. I recommend.
V.
Very very nice place with white tablecloths, candels, delicious meal, and attentive waitresses. The bistro is located in a cozy historic house. I will definitely come back.
W.
Full disclosure: haven’t eaten here yet. We were walking back to the hotel and just happened upon this joint. We poked our heads in the door and found a very friendly greeting so decided to get a glass of wine at the bar. The vibe was really warm and buzzy but it didn’t feel cramped. The food looked delicious and we made a mental to note to definitely come back for dinner one day.
Wine was delicious.
L.
Fantastic aged steak. Great service and wine list. Has the sticky toffee and date pudding. Lovely and enjoyable. Recommended
D.
Superb service, delightful staff, great bar and fantastic food.
M.
Beautiful restaurant. And very delicious food. The staff is nice, too.
G.
Our group of 10 had a wonderful evening at the Boulcott Street Bistro on Saturday night. The service was perfect - the staff were amazing - nothing was too much trouble for anyone and our meal was simply delicious. We all would highly recommend this restaurant. We cant wait to return!
D.
The guy that looks after the foh is brilliant, efficient friendly and very on to it! I went for the sunday roast. Bit disappointed the roast didnt have roast veges :-( .potatoes kumara and pumpkin is a must isnt it? Dont fix what aint broke right? But the lamb was super nice. Bit stingy with the jus but i forgive u that. The loss of one star is because i asked for hot water for my drink. Recent vocal chord surgery means im currently on hot water only for drinks. The waitress brought it in a glass which u cant drink from coz its too hot. I had to ask her for a cup. It may seem petty but it was just so annoying. I burnt my hand when i grabbed it without thinking. But great place, looks so cool. Food was good if not great! Look forward to going back.
S.
Lovely Restaurant with great atmosphere and friendly and quick service.
The meals were delicious although the plates looked quiet empty with the small portion size. However we enjoyed our time here :)
E.
Excellent service and delicious food. There are little delightful surprises in the way dishes are seasoned (no spoilers here) but something very familiar and nostalgic about those same dishes as well. The cocktails and coffee are impeccable. Very warm and inviting.
F.
Beautiful food and excellent service.
R.
Visited on a Thursday evening about 8.30pm - lovely ambience great presentation with white linen & sparkling clean glasses. About a 20 minute wait for a table whilst we enjoyed a drink at the bar. The staff were convivial and engaging . We had the fillet beef & fish. Top notch would thoroughly recommend . Well done everyone 5 stars well deserved.
w.
went of our wedding anniversary and what a treat. Monday a slow day but lucky it was T Bone steak special day. WOW brilliant steak heirloom tomato's brilliant as well, sides of chips and au gratin cauliflower were fantastic. best meal for a very long time. Maybe we should have said something about the steak, am never very good at that!
L.
This is just consistently wonderful.
I haven't been in several years, but the Boulcott Street Bistro is as good as ever.
Beautiful food, thoughtfully presented, with well prepared, professional, discrete front of house staff. An absolute pleasure, made all the better by wonderful company.
J.
It’s been a month or so since we were in but better late then never I guess? Absolutely sublime!! How we managed to walk in off the street and get a table blows me away given it was a busy night in the city but got very lucky as the place was already abuzz when we arrived. Amazing meals, cocktails and service- our waitress Hannah was absolutely lovely. I’ll definitely be back when next in Welly - this place truly is a standout!
t.
old fav that never disappoints. truly superb food done with love. salmon ceviche delicate sweet and melting .
D.
Best food we've had for a long while, every mouthful worth savouring. We went for the Sunday roast menu, succulent lamb with v tasty veges. Excellent service also. Main menu is not cheap, but we would recommend this restaurant as a special place to eat.
E.
It was extremely loud, food arrived within about 10 mins of ordering - we'd barely touched our apperitif drinks, whilst the meal was pleasant, it was pretty small and about 10 minutes after our mains we're finished, desert was put in front of us. All in all rather unsatisfying.
A.
We came to Wellington for the weekend with the intention to visit this restaurant again. We visited in November last year and it was a real highlight. Love watching the way the Staff work so well together and I enjoyed the smiles and laughter shared between front of house and kitchen staff. The Bistro has an amazing atmosphere. As last time we were walk-ins, which is actively encouraged, and we enjoyed time in the bar until a table we ready. So thrilled to see Boulcott Street Bistro alive and kicking after the Covid lockdown. Special thanks to our waiter, Oscar, barman, Graham and front of house, Oli for an overall enjoyable experience.
G.
Amazing food! Staff so nice especially Regan the bartender! Short ribs were beautiful
J.
Fabulous food and wonderful staff. The best in Wellington
Seafood platter entree
Grouper for main course
Creme brulee
Mmm.....
J.
Amazing staff, decor and food!! Highly recommend
a.
Great place for meeting or bite to eat staff are very helpful and friendly
C.
First came to this Restaurant in the eighties the standered service and food has never changed. It's my favorite restaurant in Wellington.
R.
Simply d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. We were accompanied by a lovely senior waiter for the night. Fantastic food and staff with a great attitude - what more could you want? 11/10.
L.
I've wanted to go to this restaurant for such a long time, and now I have I will be back as soon as possible! Everything that is on your plate is absolutely delicious. It doesn't matter what you order it will be brilliant. As a beautiful environment as well and people seem really happy there. Just a nice place to be
E.
My absolute favourite restaurant in Wellington! The steak is to die for, the service is amazing and the setting is so adorably warm and inviting. We eat here for our special occasions and it’s always perfect.
A.
Great food, wonderful service.
J.
One of my fav restaurants whenever I visit WLG. Their steaks are cooked to perfection and the staffs are kind and prof.
G.
There's a very good reason why Boulcott Street Bistro has become a Wellington institution. Excellent food and service. The Sunday roast option is an easy and wise decision if available.
S.
Great service, delicious food, highly recommended!!!!
C.
Food was incredible, the service was impeccable, the atmosphere was delightful. Such a cute building, and very warm inside. Clearly a lot of attention to detail with the interior and decor. They took our coats first thing, which was a nice touch, and checked in during our meals but without it feeling intrusive.
The food was amazing, with all round good flavour balance and reasonable portion sizes. I particularly enjoyed the chocolate almond sorbet, the chocolatey richness balanced nicely with the delicacy of the lavender poached pear.
While a little more on the pricey side, the experience over all was far better than many more 'upmarket' places I've visited.
I think it's fantastic for a romantic dinner, with a good level of cosiness, but would also be great for a fancy family dinner outing.
It would be nice if they had another vegetarian/vegan option as a main, but that's a minor thing I noted, and may well be seasonal. Highly recommended.
D.
Had the tuna Cesar salad. Like no other Cesar salad I've had. It was fantastic. Quaint cozy great service
E.
Delicious meals and nice atmosphere
S.
Boulcott Street Bistro was everything we were looking after for our honeymoon, coming from Auckland in a small trip away. The service was friendly and attentive but not too much. However, the highlight of the night is the superb food. We had the aged fillet steak with Bérnaise sauce and the grilled snapper with the saffron potatoes, every bite was heaven. And to end the night we had the fabulous crème brûlée and the almond Financier.
Please, if you stop by in Wellington give your support to this lovely Bistro, we definitely will come back.
Thank you Ollie for looking after us.
M.
Excellent food, took my partner out for her birthday and she adored it
C.
Fine dining but nothing surprised me. It serves exactly what you paid for. :)
C.
Long existing top class restaurant with very affordable meals. Very good reputation and the goods to compliment. Try the $20 T-bone, you won't regret it. Great wines and top service. Truly 5 stars.
J.
Simple yet delicious food! Ambiance is just great!
S.
Excellent experience every time we're there. You walk in and are typically greeted warmly (which can be a rarity in Wellington) and familiarly. The food and drink is on the pricier side, but I think there is value there as it hasn't been anything but impeccable in our experience. Service is very competent as well. I think they can get a little judgey if you're not dressed well, but ultimately I think they want everybody to have a nice time. Get the French onion soup.
R.
Arrived with no reservation but could eat at the bar. Luckily a last minute cancellation and we were seated, served and contact traced very efficiently. Food was FANTASTIC! OMG the creme brulee is simply worth the visit-you have to leave room for this. Efficient wait staff and the kitchen churned out fine dishes very quickly. Highly recommend.
T.
It was quite fancy but had a homely feel too.
J.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious food
D.
We had a wonderful experience. Everything from the salad and onion soup starters to the creme brûlée dessert was delicious. The service was impeccable. We had at least five servers who worked with military precision to make the meal flow seamlessly and perfectly. The restaurant is very quaint in an old house. It is a little difficult to find, but well worth the effort.

We arrived before they opened on a rainy Saturday and they let us in early to have a drink at the bar. They seated us promptly at opening and the food and service were outstanding. I had the market fish, which was snapper, and it was perfectly cooked. My husband had the lamb shank and pronounced it the best he had ever had. We highly recommend this restaurant,
T.
Great food, romantic setting and atmosphere. Attentive staff with a sense of humour - yes you read that right. For a posh place serving very fine food they didn't look down at me or make me feel guilty about tucking-in to their very well presented dishes. Plenty of trendy facial hair but there were smiles not judgemental frowns beneath! Highly recommended for special occasions or weekly date nights if you can afford it. This kind of venue could save your marriage.
G.
This is the best restaurant we've experienced in New Zealand so far. Cozy delightful atmosphere, incredible service and the food was delicious - we had the mushroom ravioli, steak and French onion soup. Also, try the cocktails, the banana one is amazing.
B.
Recently visited on the suggestion of friends and reading reviews. The atmosphere and the staff was very pleasant and had a great chat with the bartender on that evening.
Picked a lovely bottle of wine to start and then decided on the tartare and squid for starters. Both were nice but the tartare was overpowered by the gherkin gel which was unfortunate.
For mains we got the fish and the duck. The fish was lovely with great flavors and cooked nicely. However the duck was overdone and dry which was very unfortunate.
Decided against dessert based on previous courses.
All in all good atmosphere and hit/miss food but this could have been due to how busy the restaurant was.
Staff very nice which is always a big plus.
T.
We had a party in the upstairs private room with 3 course menu : Excellent food at surprisingly reasonable prices! Our waiter Regan was attentive and professional, but also fun. Just right. Great drinks too. Everyone shared glowing feedback.
R.
A Wellington native recommended this to me as her favorite restaurant in town, and she has good taste indeed. The place is both cozy and elegant, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious and innovative. Instead of an appetizer and a main, I opted for three appetizers: a whitebait crepe/omelet that was off the menu (in season), the gremolate crumb calamari, and mushroom ravioli. Every dish was memorably delightful.
B.
As always very nice. Excellent food and pleasant service. Highly recommended.

Amazing culinary experience. Wonderful food and ambiance. Great service.

While visiting Wellington for the weekend with my husband and almost teenage Son.
We ordered the Sunday roast, with a glass of red wine and chocolate brownie for dessert, very lovely character house with great service.
Awesome 80 's music to listen to.
Feel very satisfied
Worth a visit while staying inner city Wellington.
L.
Four of us enjoyed a lovely dinner tonight at Boulcott Bistro. Our delightful waitress was cheerful, helpful explaining the menu, and accommodating. We split a small wedge of lettuce for a first course. The lamb shank and the fillet of beef were excellent. The fish and duck confit were equally yummy. We shared two sides, mushrooms and cauliflower, both were wonderful. All the food was well seasoned and served promptly. Our date and toffee pudding was a perfect ending for our meal. We highly recommend this restaurant.
J.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, highly recommend, has a great night, loved the bar man and maitre'd and waitress so professional
T.
Straight up one of the best places I've ever eaten at, everything on the menu is amazing, cocktails are other worldly and service is expectional. Highly recommended.
G.
Beautiful place and great service. A bit too expensive for what they offer though.
B.
lovely and warm on a cold day. friendly staff and georgous food. great all round.
R.
I'm not gonna lie to you this meal ain't cheap but it is some of the best food I have had in New Zealand. This is the best representation of French cuisine I have ever seen. Every bite is exquisite, it is perfectly balanced and delightfully rich. On a side note the cocktails while simple are a work of art
J.
Came to celebrate my birthday with my partner. I had an amazing time.
The atmosphere is cosy, the food is great (meat is so tender and cook to the perfection), cocktails are creative and right in taste.
Mention special to the staff who definitely know their deal and are passionate about this little gem.
Definitively recommend.
D.
I have been to Boulcott Bistro restaurant and am always impressed by the quality of each meal I eat there. I am not particularly adventurous as I always order the exact same thing off the menu each time (Beef fillet with hand cut chips and cream Brulee for dessert) But the staff and overall atmosphere of the restaurant along with the quality of the food served will keep me coming back here for many years to come! Super consistent 10/10.
R.
Wow. The best steak...Fillet...i have had in years. Medium. Perfect. Juicy. Tasty. Gorgeous. The sauces...well yum. Slaw...awesome. clean and not over done. Back here always. From Auckland. Thanks Boulcott St Bistro and Wellington.
M.
Like the others reviews, yes the food is excellent but not just excellent, as tasty as some rewarded restaurants in France.
The service is excellent too.
The amosphere is cosy, not noisy.
Even if this restaurant is probably most suitable for a lovely date or a lunch business, our kids enjoyed it too and we did not feel they were unwelcome.
A car park is 200m far away.
P.
Warm inviting dinning room on a cold wet Wellington day. French onion soup to start followed with house made mushroom ravioli with truffle oil. Outstanding. You could smell the truffle as the plate was set on the table.. washed down with Craggy range chardonnay...wonderful way to pass an afternoon
J.
We had a fantastic meal there. The mains are well designed, the flavours work very well together and were cooked to perfection. The profiteroles for dessert lacked a bit of flavour however the creme brulee was excellent. The service was quick and accurate however there was a lack of smiles! This was the second time we have dined there and both times the food has been top notch. Highly recommended.
K.
Lovely food but long gaps between courses.
K.
Always magical the food the atmosphere the service A1. Big thanks was my birthday so couldn't think of a better place to have my birthday dinner than at the Bocott Bistro. Cheers
M.
This place is the cutest, most adorable little bistro ever. Its snuggled in amongst commercial buildings, Wilsons Parking lots and construction, but inside you feel a world away. Lovely, friendly down to earth service thats attentive but not smothering. A very well stocked bar with great local wines by the glass. The calamari and salmon entrees had a beautiful texture and were fresh with yummy dressings but not much flavour. The t-bone steak lunch special was very good.
B.
My favourite place in Wellie for a fancy meal. The service is always lovely, the atmosphere and setting charming, the wine and food is great. The menu tends to be on the salty, meaty, and so on side, although they usually have an excellent vegetarian option. I have always found they cater for my dietary requests with respect and without making me feel like the awkward fussy guy. Love this place!
S.
Awesome dinner! The best steak we had in Wellington, cooked exactly as we liked, onion soup was tasting just like a real French one, we loved the cocktails and the service and tips from a local (Tony)
J.
Excellence across all categories. 4 of dining with 4 different dishes. Everyone very happy. Attentive but discreet service. We all agreed great night. Thanks Boulcott Bristo.
T.
After 5 weeks of kicking around the Australia and New Zealand area, I finally found what may be the best steak in the southern hemisphere.
This place was such a terrific find and the food was top notch.
G.
The food was great the venue was great but after spending over 400 dollars, we were first given the bill without request we were not finished. Then the waitress came over and asked if we would like a drink at the bar while we still had drinks, then 10 minutes later a second waiter came over and asked us to have a drink at the bar very unprofessional rushing a paying customer.
T.
Amazing food and ambience as always! I had the pan fried fish of the day which was juicy and delicious, and we shared the pineapple carpaccio which was light and perfect to end the meal.
d.
Outstanding service. Amazing food. The best wine selection. What's not to love?!
T.
Dinner with a friend who is super allergic to alcohol. Very impressed by how careful the kitchen was to check everything on his plate and suggest substitutions. My duck was lovely though a little lost within the flavours. I can see why the creme brulee is a house speciality. A good ginger ale on the side.
E.
Had a great lunch - lamb cutlets were great (for a country with so much sheep, it was surprisingly difficult to find a restaurant that serves lamb chops), pork belly, tuna tartare and onion soup were also excellent. Good service and ambience. Reasonable prices.
R.
Lovely little nook in the CBD. Food was fantastic. Had the panko crusted pork loin
K.
Outstanding food and service !!
M.
Stunning good, incredible service and a lovely setting. Well worth visiting and enjoying the service (our waiter happily spoke to the chef so we could learn the source of some ingredients) 👌🏼

Impeccable, knowledgeable service from Kate and from Oscar, behind the bar. 'The Boulcott' is always on our itinerary when we come to Wellington. This is probably our fifth or sixth 'dining out' visit there and, we both agreed, it has topped all our nights at this restaurant, largely thanks to Kate. What a wonderful asset she is to the Boulcott team. Oh, and the creations from the kitchen - just divine!
J.
Amazing winter food. Over two nights had the lamb shank and the beef. Amazing. Tony behind the bar was a fantastic host. Staff really friendly. An absolute must do in Wellington.
G.
The food was perfect. The staff fantastic.
I mentioned during the meal that the steak was amongst the best I think I have ever had.
would highly recommend to anyone.
We only found this restraunt by chance!!!
D.
Beautiful meal and stunning service. I highly recommend the Boulcott Bistro
G.
We really enjoyed our time here :)
G.
Amazing food. The Wellington on a Plate lamb burger is a masterpiece, and the aged beef fillet was one of the best steaks I've ever tasted. Great beer, too.
H.
Professional service and top rating food. Despite being full, the atmosphere is excellent and not too noisy. Highly recommended for special occasion. Private room or birthday cake request also available.
V.
Impeccable, knowledgeable service from Kate and from Oscar, behind the bar. 'The Boulcott' is always on our itinerary when we come to Wellington. This is probably our fifth or sixth 'dining out' visit there and, we both agreed, it has …
S.
Excellent experience every time we're there. You walk in and are typically greeted warmly (which can be a rarity in Wellington) and familiarly. The food and drink is on the pricier side, but I think there is value there as it hasn't been …
D.
Lovely meal, great service
R.
Arrived with no reservation but could eat at the bar. Luckily a last minute cancellation and we were seated, served and contact traced very efficiently. Food was FANTASTIC! OMG the creme brulee is simply worth the visit-you have to leave …
S.
Great place with great food. Diferent from all i knew here in Wellington
S.
Excellent relaxed and friendly service. Food was perfect.
J.
Excellent service, friendly staff, menu is small but enough, $20 t-bone mon to fri.
B.
We had a wonderful experience. Everything from the salad and onion soup starters to the creme brûlée dessert was delicious. The service was impeccable. We had at least five servers who worked with military precision to make the meal flow …
T.
We had a party in the upstairs private room with 3 course menu : Excellent food at surprisingly reasonable prices! Our waiter Regan was attentive and professional, but also fun. Just right. Great drinks too. Everyone shared glowing feedback.
N.
The only place to eat steak in whole Wellington No one can beat their stake. It’s the best in Wellington. Great experience!
k.
The warmest staff welcome, amazing food and service. You can't ask for more in a restaurant.
Make sure to book, because it is small, but popular!
s.
The Sunday roast was gourmet. The pear and lavender dish is very cold which we weren't expecting. The double cooked fries are worth it and so is the brocoli side.
B.
best food in Wellington and a wonderful little gem. This house is magical, the staff is professional and attentive and the food is extraordinary. We had a perfect evening. Thank you!
E.
Enjoyed the roast. Not large portions but very tasty and appreciated the bread for mopping!
A.
Having lived in Wellington for three decades, and never having been to BSB in all that time, I finally found myself at this "Holy Grail" of Wellington institutions last week. I have to say it was underwhelming. At this price point, I'd expect a thrilling experience - the best I can manage is safe and predictable. Maybe that's what people want and that's fine. In a city with so much more variety and excellence in its dining scene, this isn't worth a repeat visit.
J.
I'm a big fan of this place. Everything on the menu is amazing. You really can't go wrong with whatever you pick. The service was also top notch.
L.
Great food wine and service
A.
Fantastic place! The food was superb and a good selection of wines (including a surprise Chateau Musar from Lebanon!). Would high recommend you put this on the itinerary next time you are in Wellington! Good negroni too!
J.
Always a Wellington classic, Boulcott Street Bistro strikes a perfect balance between good dining, perfectly executed, and a relaxed and friendly style.
The staff are friendly, their suggestions always good, and the steak and chips always a wise choice
M.
Tasty food, fantastic service and great wine choice. Tables feel too close for intimate dining and they don't take bookings which is why the 4 star review.
D.
Lovely wee place, good atmosphere and very helpful and friendly wait staff.
Food was very nice, not fine dining. Exactly as we'd have expected.
N.
Top class restaurant for your special occasion. Wonderful heritage location. Great atmosphere and service with the most delicious food. Definitely stars +++
M.
Expensive, but delicious.
I had Grilled Vegetable Napoleon as an entrée and White Beans & Buttercup with gnocchi as a main, while my wife had Mushroom Ravioli as her entrée and Pan Roasted Market Fish as her main. I cannot remember what the fish was, but all of the food was cooked excellently. The Mushroom Ravioli was the best of all the dishes. We also shared a Crème Brulée, which was perfect.
All of the dishes were quite small (what I expected) but surprisingly filling.
I also had a glass of 2015 Invivo Sauvignon Blanc, a glass of 2014 Dr Loosen Riesling, and a glass of 2013 Urlar Pinot Noir. I feel like I tried them in the wrong order, but the Invivo was the best, suiting my vegetarian meals well.
The mood was romantic: we were seated near a couple of families (the Sunday roast was on special), but either the bulb in the light hanging above us had blown or the maître d' had purposefully turned it off for us. Either way, it improved the mood.
Very impressed, but I'm unlikely to return because of the high price: our total bill was for approximately NZ$150.
J.
Welcoming staff. Attentive service. Select but inventive menu. Everything was tasty. Upstairs seating a bit close and loud.
E.
One of my favourite restaurants in Wellington. Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Superb sides and desserts complement outstanding main dishes.
E.
There is only 1 choice for mains - the steak. Its as if you are biting into a smooth, meaty cloud of delightfulness. Calamari entree is cooked to perfection and desserts all top notch. Will be a regular visitor!
D.
Just had dinner at Boulcott Steet Bistro, Wellington. This restaurant has won the New Zealand Beef and Lamb awards for three years in a row. The cuisine and wine options are sophisticated, delicious, serving portions ample, the food well plated, the service outstanding. Highly reccommended.
Z.
Fantastic food, great service. Brilliant.
J.
Excellent service, friendly staff, menu is small but enough, $20 t-bone mon to fri.
A.

H.

S.
10/10! Thank you for the attentive service, super specials and delicious food, Boulcott St Bistro gets a perfect score from me. Best restaurant in Wellington. We went on a Monday night, which earns it a point right there for being open. We ordered poorman's kiwi champagne but the maître de intercepted our order with a bottle of Tattinger - 50% off on Monday nights, apparently... so that was nice.
K.
Great service and a lovely meal as always whenever we go there.
M.
Delicious food, great service, good pricing, definitely will come back
L.
Very tastefully executed french cuisine, I always have a good time here

Ambience is one thing alot of places don't have, this place has it, Service is another very important factor, consistency and longevity round it out nicely when trends do and will die out. Boulcott street Bistro is still my favourite home away from home.

A lovely week place with excellent food and great service. Dealt well with a diner with allergies. Highly recommend visiting here.
P.
Cannot beat the setting, food and service. Thumbs up all round.
M.
Great food, just don't get the windrow seat on a sunny day, it gets far too hot, the windows don't open and there's no blind to reduce the glare, heat, etc
B.
Really good food. Really good service. You should expect 45 minutes wait minimum before getting a table but worth it. Gourmet restaurant
H.
We had the best time at Boulcott Street Bistro on New Years Eve. Delicious food and great service, the boy on the bar was amazing! – a fantastic way to welcome 2013!
