A beautiful 9 course degustation with great service and optional wine pairing. The menu changes based on seasonal produce. The chefs bring the food out to your table themselves to explain what's on your plate and how it was prepared. A great little find in central Wellington and highly recommended.

A superb dining experience. One of Wellington's fine dining highlights. We visited on the Thursday and enjoyed the slightly cheaper 'tasting' menu.
Food, flavours, presentation and service out of this world.
Even the pre-dinner cocktail showed unique care and attention to detail. (Sami mixes available). I had the first ever, in my experience, whisky cocktail which enhanced the whisky rather than wasting it: "Whisky & Wai" Described as "Suntory 'Toki' whisky, orange and sparkling Wai manuka".
I have experienced Noma, Logan Brown, and an early predecessor restaurant at this address (Petit Lyon) and this experience was the equal of all of them.
For illustrative purposes, the menu for our visit was:
Snacks
BBQ Zucchini, Macadamia, Chickpea, Mint
Match: Rippon Estate Riesling 2019 (Central Otaqo, NZ)
Line Caught Kahawai, Green Bean, Nectarine, Seaweed
Match. Hawkes Ridges "The Wild Rose" 2021 (Hawkes Bay, NZ)
(With Stewart Island Scampi + $15)
Easterbrook Farm Duck, Plum, Daikon, Orange, Tarragon & Jano's Homemade Sourdough Bread
Match: Domaine Louis Jadot Pinot Noir 2019 (Burgundy, Fr) replaced on the night by a Montepulciano grape from the Hawkes Bay
(We added the Cheese Course +18pp / +30pp inc. match) *
Kapiti Kikorangi, Cherry, Pistachio, Red Onion, Buckwheat
Match: Romain Paire La Colline en Flamme St Romain 2019 (Loire Valley, Fr)
Apricot, Coconut, Flight Coffee, Sesame
Match: Churton Petit Manseng 2018 (Marlborough, NZ) - a slightly botyritised dessert wine.

If you love food, art, creativity and being treated like royalty, then Jano Bistro is the place to go! (especially if you are vegetarian, and feel discouraged by the options at other places)
Somehow Jano Bistro managed to create 9 unique vegetarian dishes, all laden with so much thought, preparation and beautiful ingredients.
We are a humble mother and daughter who rarely dine out, (this was a birthday treat) but the staff made us feel comfortable and warmly welcomed the entire time.
The Bistro itself is cozy, unassuming, unpretentious, and laid out well.
We were served our delicious pieces of edible art by the chefs, who explained everything. It was so interesting hearing the stories behind the food.. they must be so busy in that kitchen, but take time to serve you without appearing stressed at all!
The flavors and textures were incredible. There were elements that you would never expect to go together, but which created a party in our mouths! We loved the taste, texture, design and artistry in everything. Each dish had various beautiful creations.
Thank you Jano Bistro for a memorable experience

Everyone must do this at least once in their life. We had a 9 course meal with wine to compliment each course. It was absolute luxury and the staff were totally amazing! The chefs came and introduced the courses they had prepared and it felt like a very special experience. I would totally recommend this truly wonderful place.

We went to Jano for the first time and wasn't disappointed, it completely lives up to the hype. I said to the waitress that I didn't have the right words for describing this beautiful food. Pierre, the head chef and his crew was excellent. Pierre says he changes the menu every 4-6 weeks, so no two experiences will be the same.

We went to Jano for the first time last weekend. I had heard really good things about this place. The tasting menu with matched wines was a memorable event. The dishes are creative, beautifully presented and taste amazing. The service was impeccable, the wine match was spot on. If you are looking for a special experience, I recommend Jano.

Phenomenal. Beautiful food, excellent wine, and warm service. Tasting menus often have peaks, and occasional lulls, but each dish at Jano was truly stellar. The playful flavor pairings (olive with pineapple? capsicum sorbet?) sounded improbable, but were universally delicious and extremely memorable. Each course was my favorite of the evening for as long as it was in front of me.

I was super excited to dine here and wow did it not disappoint. Such a warm welcome and a lovely setting. Not pretentious at all for such fine dining, which is exactly what we like. We had a 5 course menu with drink pairing. So many amazing flavours, all passionately explained. The wine pairings were well worth it as it only enhanced the flavour experience even more. This is one of those meals I’ll remember for a long time. Jano is my new favourite restaurant.

Best night of eating in Wellington, by far. Wonderfully attentive hostess, and food that was truly worth every penny. My special requests were no issue to them. Each mouth watering course was balanced flavour wise.
