Reviews of Jasmin Licensed Chinese Restaurant
C.
I've come to really enjoy eating at this restaurant. Staff are really friendly, prompt & attentive at the right times. Massive variety of meals and reasonable prices. In a group or on your own, it's a good spot to park up & have a feed!
V.
Absolutely amazing place to go for dinner! The staff were amazing and so friendly and the food was just delicious. It didn't feel too heavy (even after 3 mains, 3 appetizers and 2 desserts between 2 people) and it is because the quality of food was perfect.
41 years this restaurant has been opened and it took me 27 years to finally try it. Wish I had gone sooner!!
Definitely our new go to restaurant
I.
Service was good as were some of the dishes, especially the fried rice. Other than that, most of the food was decent but not special, which was a disappointment given the pricier menu.
S.
Delicious authentic Chinese food, probably the best in Wellington. Food does take quite long to prepare but so worth the wait
A.
I've gone to this Chinese restaurant twice and had fried rice with shrimp in both occasions. It tastes fresh and delicious. Friendly service too!

I have been coming here since I was a little kid and it's truly a hidden gem for Chinese cuisine in Wellington. Run by the same lady all these years, the best thing about Jasmin is the consistency - something a lot of other Chinese restaurants in the city struggle with. Every time we come here, the service is friendly and the food is fresh and tasty.
A great example of this is their Cantonese steamed whole fish.
This is so often done poorly at other Chinese restaurants because it will likely be one of many fish that's been purchased ages ago to cut costs and has been sitting in the freezer for ages and you can taste immediately that the texture and flavour is off.
At Jasmin, the owner buys these in small quantities every few days and every single time we have ordered this, for years, it has been perfect.
C.
Do yourself a favour: leave the buffet to the uninitiated. Buffet is never the right choice.
Lunch or dinner, go with the menu entrees. Very authentic Chinese. Their Ma Po Tofu is spot on, as are their spring onion pancakes. The sizzling beef is a treat.
Grab a couple Tsing Taos and enjoy the fare.

Always wanted to try this place. Because it is hidden and almost down the side of an alleyway with not much advertisement. Blink and you will miss it type of place As far as entrance goes. This to me added to the quirk of the place. Staff was friendly and we enjoyed the buffet lunch, there is hardly any food there as they don’t fill up the trays as most places would. But they do let you know that there is anything you would like and they top up the tray for you with notice. The food didn’t look that appealing either but once I took a bite at everything that was available for me I was in Heaven .. the food and the flavours was fresh and scrumptious it really exceeded my first judgment upon seeing the display. And the food was extremely authentic. What a lovely hidden Gem this restaurant actually is. The atmosphere is abit outdated but it’s very clean and relaxing. I just can’t get over the taste of the food. So much so that I had to ask if they cater to parties etc WELL DONE TEAM
J.
One of the best dried fried rice noodles (hor fun) I've had in Wellington

This restaurant is hidden away but well worth the visit. It's a little bit of a step back in time as it's a bit old school but that's what makes it kinda cool. Very good prices and amazing tasting food is what always brings me back when I'm in Wellington for business. It's my go to every time.
C.
Jasmine is hidden upstairs in an arcade off Lambton Quay. It is unassuming but has some of the best pork dumplings I have ever eaten. The staff are very friendly and recommended some great dishes to try. The food was fresh and high quality and the price was very reasonable.
J.
Fresh ingredients, Hong Kong cook, taste top notch. Of course price is on the high side, but definitely value for money
C.
Great food and service at very reasonable prices
H.
🦐Chili and Pepper Prawn - The best prawn dish I have ever had in Wellington! Despite the small size, the taste is delicious as heaven! Sweet and a little spicy. Love it!!
🥘Stir Fried Pork - It goes perfectly with rice!! But a little salty. The mushrooms are to savory but all is well cooked.
We will come back soon and maybe try their lunch buffet. Solid 5 stars!
W.
Well balanced between price and quality + quantity. Just cost you $17 for a buffet, typical food and soup, but dessert!
Staff are kind and actively refill food (cook new food in fact!) and soup even we arrived ~2:00 which they are going to finish.
If you are hungry don't mind spending bit more it's really a nice choice.
I don't like Chinese but I did tipped for their homely service.
L.
Yum! Fantastic quality Chinese food in retro decor restaurant. Staff very friendly and welcoming and tables are cleared promptly. Really enjoyed the ginger stir fried chicken, lemon chicken, combination chow mein - actually all dishes were spectacular and cooked to perfection. My group dined here twice in one week as they were all impressed and wanted to come back. If you're craving Chinese food - go here.
R.
Excellent quality Chinese meals with decent sized portions. I had sweet and sour pork and a small combination fried rice and it was more than enough for me (had leftovers). Overall it was a very succulent Chinese meal and I would return again.
M.
Food is so delicious. Staff very friendly. Just a really good place to enjoy a meal
G.
A favourite Wellington food stop for me. Stuffed chicken wings followed by the Cantonese Sizzling Steak is hard to beat. Modest surrounds but amazing food at great prices.
K.
The best chinese meal we've ever had. Everything tasted so fresh and light. You could tell they used clean oil. Staff we're lovely, food excellent, a really treasure.
y.
looking for a nice meal after a long drive. staff were busy but very helpful , entree of scollops was delicious, served quickly and our mains of satay chicken on a sizzling plate and chicken and shrimps with veges were full of flavour and well cooked .thankyou. would dine again for sure.
R.
Busy restaurant in the James Cook Hotel to the lifts. Wide menu and really well cooked foods very helpful around dietary concerns. Lovely flavoured foods. We enjoyed eating here.
A.
Fantastic place tucked away up the stairs. Food excellent, good portions, reasonably priced drinks. Toilets are like a trip to the set of Towering Inferno but in a wonderful way.
C.
I have been eating here 1981 and it just gets better . The salted chilli squid is just fantastic . This place is a wonderful reminder that Wellington in the 80's wasn't the food desert some millenials now like to pretend. There was a host of restaurants like Esters, the sycamore tree, the Tokoh Baruh ,marbles and they weren't serving overpriced Cuba Street's topsalad strewn junk
..
E.
The food was very tasty. The service was great. We were a group of 10 and the food arrived in a timely manner. We did not have to wait long after ordering.
P.
consistently great food, and excellent service. Would highly recommend for an unexpectedly great meal at a very reasonable price.
J.
Real nice place, got a choice of either buffet or menu and all real fresh. Food was awesome, great flavors, sizzling hot as well.

S.
Excellent Chinese restaurant. I have eaten here a few times now and make it a priority to eat here everytime I come to Wellington. The food is fantastic, service is excellent and prices are reasonable. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Wellington, never anything less than excellent.
J.

t.

J.
To be honest I could probably have cooked just as good a meal myself if I was home in Auckland but it was 9.30 pm and I am sure they just wanted to go home. But greatful that we were able to grab a meal anyway
G.
Friendly good service, option of having buffet or from the menu. We chose the menu which was awesome food freshly cooked & good prices 👍

For fifteen years I have been going to the Jasmine restaurant, often with guest from China and never have we had anything other than beautiful food and great service. We come to Wellington every six weeks now and always dine twice at jasmine and twice at the Beijing in Newtown our two top Chinese restaurants in Wellington.
G.
What a suprising place to find in the heart of Wellington. It reminded me of a Chinese restaurant I went to in San Fran, great food and all you can eat buffet smorgasbord.
J.
What a great place! BYO, food is amazing and it’s not expensive! Ideal to go with a group and get lots of dishes and just go hard out enjoying each bite!
E.
Good food, nice atmosphere. The staff had trouble keeping the buffet stocked.
C.
Cheap and nasty Chinese food. Exactly what you'd expect from the place on the corner. Service was alright but not great. Desserts where rather bland. A bowl of jelly and some fruit. Eh.
R.
The food is good but goes out quickly and takes some time to fill it up again..i liked the noodles, fried rice and the lemon chicken 😋
T.
A visit to Jasmine Garden is one of our 'must do's when visiting Wellington. Some of the best Chinese in New Zealand.
And the owner remembers me every time, although we visit infrequently
