We had it delivered by delivery easy and it was not very good as food wasn't hot when we had it in our house. Complained to the restaurant and went there again to have it in the restaurant. We had the fish, chicken and prawn tacos ect. They were really beautiful. Also it's very kids friendly place. Have a good changing table in the bathroom which is crucial! I would definitely recommend to have their tacos. probably the best taco in Wellington. Thanks for the good experience.

Enjoyable visit. I have zero experience with Mexican food, and do not know how closely this resembled Mexican street food, but what I had I enjoyed. We were warmly met by someone and shown to a table far away from the tables of families/kids which was appreciated, and the chap asked if we had been before? When I said No he then gave us a rundown of how the ordering and food delivery process works. Nice touch. Two changes would be good to see: 1. the water provided to the table is chilled to remove the 'tap water' taste, and 2. the staff wear a uniform, even if it's matching tops. I wanted to get someone's attention for a drink and it wasn't obvious who was staff and who was a random walking by going to the bathroom.

Good service. The waitstaff were very attentive about making sure we had everything we needed. All the relevant covid protocols were observed. The food was great and waiting times were reasonable. More non-alcoholic cocktails would be good, but overall, a lovely dinner out.

Went to Mexico last night with my wife and 11year old daughter. Great experience. Staff were amazing, super friendly and helpful, food came out quickly and all the dishes were excellent. Had a corona, strawberry and pink guava margarita and my daughter had a mango and passion fruit cocktail. Cocktails were pretty and delicious. Then on to guacamole and potato croquetas for starters, then pork ribs, cumin and jalapeno squid and country fried chicken with a cucumber yogurt sauce. Then for dessert we had churros....of course. All the dishes were delicious and well presented. Total price $130....which I thought was pretty reasonable for all 3 of us. Definitely recommend for a fun, tasty dinner out.😊👍👍👍

Mexico Petone were exemplary and conscientious hosts of our llama themed childs first birthday party in their function room. Right from the point of organisation, the manager Hayley provided impeccable communication, with an accomodating range of options well suited to our needs. The head chef prepared a flavour packed platter style selection of meat and plant based dishes (panucho, street torta, fried chicken, lamb quesadilla, roasted poblano chilli and fennel quesadilla), even some custom made to satisfy both children and adults alike. The service was attentive and well executed to deliver an enjoyable experience over several hours. We really appreciate all the time and effort that was carefully crafted to celebrate our daughters special day. We will definitely be back soon and recommending to all.

The service was really good. The only thing I would say is I wish there were more food options on the menu. I’m not sure if menu has changed but Wellington location had lamb and prawn dish that was so good the last time we were there. But overall food that we ordered and sangria was good. Just guttered you were out of chips and guacamole.

The food was good. I think there needs to be stone work in the attentiveness for service. The service was good, but clearing the tables, restocking water and time to get the orders taken was a bit sub-par for the dessert. The timing of the food delivery for a larger table needs to be refined as some people in the party were finished by the time the last order was received. Is like to reiterate that the food was good though.

This place is amazing great food and nice people Sunday children eat free and it's a unique vibe wide range of drinks aswell and isn't too crowded even with alot of people I recommend this for dinners and bring along your kids aswell as they provide a kids meal and things to keep them busy

Greeted at door, no waiting required note I didn't have reservation but was seated immediately. Staff were genuine and both respectful and professional. There for WOAP burger "Cinnamon & Agave" burger was amazing the pork belly was melting in the bun, this was the hero of the burger the other components complimented the whole burger. I have attached photos showing menu and drinks note these regularly change. Good for families as kids menu and high chairs available for the smaller ones. Note they don't do tea and coffee but they have a selection of beer, wine, sangria and cocktails/ mocktails. Private room/ function room for up to 30 seated available. Accessible by wheelchairs, I was advised tables and toilet can be used by wheelchairs, note unsure about disabled parking?

We spent a nice evening here and enjoyed the food and company in a relaxed atmosphere. Parking in Petone is always notoriously difficult, so often by the time you've found a park and made your way to where you're eating, you're stressed and grumpy and so the place needs to do well to get you back on track. We had the warm artisan Mexican bread with the whipped garlic and chimichurri which was delicious. The Veggo among us had the cauliflower florets; and one went for chicken quesedillas 🐔 while the other went for pulled pork quesedillas. The food was great and flavourful, but nobody came back to check on us or see if we wanted more drinks, or even if we wanted dessert. We're not precious, and we certainly don't need to be waited on hand and foot, but it would have been nice to have had someone stop by at least one time to check that everything was OK with the meal. I'd have given more stars if we'd not felt so ignored. The people at tables around us had the same issue.

Had a lovely meal of delicious food. The staff went out of their way to find us a table during Level 2 restrictions too. A lighter coloured menu would have been easier to read but the food made up for it. Yum!

If I could give Mexico, Petone 7 stars I totally would! We were greeted within seconds of arriving by friendly staff that looked, and acted like they loved their jobs, what a start. From here, it just got better. The team were knowledgeable about the menu items, and super helpful. The food came out quickly, with more smiles... So many smiles. My dining partner had the special, a chicken burger and I the chickpea and pumpkin salad. I really enjoyed how hearty and flavoursome the food was, especially the salsa. Food was fine, in a fairly noisy restaurant. The service was a bit chaotic (it seemed we didn’t have a specific waiter serving our table, so multiple people would come to ask repeatedly the same questions). The drinks were tasty and churros for dessert were good.

Overall great experience: I have been hesitant to visit Mexico as the portions are a bit small for me, which can result in an expensive meal and occasionally leaving unsatisfied. However I would say this is outweighed by the amazing service from fantastic staff here and the quality of their delicious food options.

Was slightly apprehensive due to reviews but we decided to take my staff for dinner on Friday at the recommendation of my receptionist. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised, great attentive waiter, he was more than happy to hang fire for meal orders while we waited for someone running slightly late, food was quick, well presented and tasty. We were checked on around 20 minutes after starting to eat our meals, and another drink top up order taken, so we didn't feel pressured to eat fast, we chatted for a while after finishing our meals before we could roll ourselves out the door after eating far too much amazing mexican food and we never felt like we were watched or made to feel like we had to leave to make room for more customers despite being fairly busy. Responsive quick service, delicious potato pumpkin croquettes, a generous guacamole that just needed more Tabasco sauce, cucumber spring or purple onion cherry tomatoes salt and black pepper, but it came with thin, perfectly crispy and warm taco chips. All was beautifully presented and topped off with the best apple and mint Margherita ever!

Had the stuffed jalapenos, chimichangas, ceviche and fried chicken platter between two of us and it was more than enough. Some of the fried chicken was underwhelming, however the jalapenos were delicious. Inside is like a food hall, so is really noisy. Not the place for a quiet sit down meal.

Great addition to Jackson St. Not traditional Mexican in any way shape or form. It's got this Kiwi flair and the food comes out so fast. There is always something meaty on the menu and their fried chicken is so tasty and spicy. I should also note that they had an impressive selection of Tequila with staff that knew their stuff.

Great Mexican food with a huge menu sure to please all diners. Enhancing one of the great principles of Mexican food, Mexico has several vegetarian and vegan dishes that make life super easy. A big venue, you’re bound to get a table easily enough most nights of the week. Kid-friendly enough to fill the place, if this isn’t your scene maybe plan on a later dinner. The food is quick to be served and the ideal size to ensure you try more than one delicious Mexico classic. The specials are always worth a whirl, reliably building on the strong performance of the restaurant’s soft-she’ll tacos. Other Mexican favourites like fajitas and burritos also go down a treat, as do the snacks and side like the queso. The beer is naturally a combination of Mexican bent and Lower Hutt craft beer appreciation. The wine list is a little less convincing, though passable over all. Go here for great Mexican food at relatively inexpensive prices and enjoy what will surely be a long term staple of the Jackson St community
