Reviews of The Larder
J.
The octopus is the prettiest dish that my brunch eyes ever did see.
And also the tastiest.
You've got perfectly grilled octopus, chopped to bite size pieces, on a bed of radicchio, scattered cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced cucumber, speckles of olives; with smatterings of dill.
Take each mouthful with slightly different proportions, and comb in some of that dressing.
I also found the preserved lemon edible.
Divine.
Only work here is waiting for a table and trying to decide what to order!
E.
We visited for the first time last week and it was AMAZING!
Flawless service from the whole team. Friendly and accomodating and ready to help when needed. The food was outstanding as well. While we were visiting the fantastic woman who was working the till told us about their bakery, Myrtle on Kent terrace which we have since visited and have equal rave reviews about food and service.
M.
The best brunch and lunch spot in all of Wellington. It’s so worth the drive from town to eat here. Great service & coffee & the food is divine. Menu is always changing and seasonal. The hardest part is getting a park and then a table! Have a meal then spend some time at the beach, it’ll make for an amazing day in Miramar.
G.
Likely one of Wellingtons better seasonal food restaurants for fine dining. Have eaten here on five occassions and each time has been an excellent experience. The ambiance and staff are excellent and pricing reasonable for the food quality level
H.
It's an amazing breakfast place, just within working distance if you are visiting the Weta Cave. The food was delicious with beautiful plating. The staff there was really nice and helpful. We had a great time visiting. Definitely recommend.
M.
There is a reason (many in fact) that the Larder is rated one of the capital’s top restaurants. The food is superb, the service is fantastic and the special, regional themed pop-up events are always amazing. Over the course of many visits we’ve come to appreciate the warm welcome from owners Sarah and Jacob and the rest of the staff, which has cemented the Larder as our favourite place to dine. Definitely looking forward to the next event, in this case a Catalonia Christmas experience. Can’t wait!
K.
Busy suburban cafe on a Sunday, reasonable (in quality, quantity and price) cafe-level brunch food, allow around $25 per person for a brunch meal and coffee. Flat white was very good. Be prepared to wait a little for a table if you arrive after 11 am on a Sunday.
M.
This must be the #1 breakfast spot in all of Wellington. Perfect portion sizes. Have yet to find something on the menu that isn't tops. Crocque madame to die for.
R.
The Larder is delicious. I went around brunch time and this place appears to be very popular. We were seated almost right away and got our food pretty quick too.The blood pudding was delicious, especially with the bread and butter.
I.
Just down the street, is WETA workshops. This place is the perfect coffee or food stop on your way there. Excellent service as well in a very nice place.
O.
Always so lovely to visit this hidden gem. Such a shame dinner service is no longer! We were greeted and seated quickly. The food was served soon after. Always delicious and creatively presented. The only problem was there was not more! Coffee was also great.
D.
Easy parking, plenty of seating, a nice suburban cafe option. Sweet treats are great. Staff are warm and friendly.
D.
Beautiful flavors. Complex and refined without being pretentious. If I lived in Wellington it would be one of my default brunch places. Well worth the drive. Also a very decent craft beer selection.
N.
great coffee and excellent cabinet food especially the cheese and onion scones. Brilliant location, very relaxed atmosphere and friendly service
I.
Great chilli hot chocolate, burger, crepe and duck leg. The baked goods were good but a little dry to my liking
s.
Very busy when we were there on Sunday lunch. Had to wait for a table for 10-15min even before it is 12! Mainly tourists going to weta tours. Attentive staff, super accommodating with our little one. High chair available. Interesting menu, which itself and table servicing ( even though they call this a little bit delay). We had orecchiette, snapper burger and pork belly salad. Tasty, large portion, and make us want to go back!
D.
Lovely food and coffee, very friendly staff, nice environment, looking forward to our next visit very soon.
L.
The best brunch in Wellington! Incredible food. The best ciabatta I ever had! Coffee and belgian hot choco are excellent! Interior and exterior decor and atmosphere is very pleasing - homey and comfortable. The servers/staff are very friendly. Makes you feel welcomed straightaway and orders arrive in record time... keep up the good work! Will definitely go back if I’m in Wellington!
J.
The Larder is one of Wellington's hidden gems. They serve delicious food made from the freshest ingredients and their service is impeccable. Some people might argue that this place is pricey, but if you get great food and service, isn't it worth it?
M.
The quality of the food, staff and atmosphere second to none. Sarah as owner and front of house ... Well it comes from the top, professional and top notch restaurant quality establishment
A.
Lovely breakfast on a Saturday morning. We really enjoy the food and friendly service. Small but excellent quality. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere, which was nice and relaxing. Will definitely be visiting again.
C.
Staffs are very friendly and quick. Food was amazing. The only default is that the store is bit small so it can be loud. Other things are perfect.
b.
The food and coffee we're very good. It's a little hidden gem with plenty of character. Try their lamb brains, it's an unusual meat done right.
L.
This place is a gem! The staff are friendly, they have a seasonal menu that rotates, the food is prepared and presented beautifully, and they have a dangerously good counter full of savory and sweet baked goods. One of our favorite things to do, actually, is to stop in for coffees and a loaf of fresh seeded sourdough to go with homemade veggie soup for dinner. Definitely a place to make time for!
T.
I had the prawn omelette and it was fantastic! Really beyond expectations and something different and we'll balanced for brunch. The staff are also extremely accommodating, kind and efficient. Also got a takeaway donut and that was amazing as well!
M.
Lambs brains can be polarizing but these wee guys are soft and coated in delicious bread crumbs. Served with a delicious aioli you could easily forget your chowing down on brains - the polenta chips are generous and the Madam Croquet is pretty special too!
P.
Busy lunchtime but got a table
Slow and a bit chaotic taking our order which caused some unease as we had an hour for lunch before needing to leave.
Fortunately, the food was prepared and served in good time, and all of it was exceptional.
Great coffee too
Thank you!
R.
The parppadelle with lamb meatballs is good. Juicy meatballs with tomato based sauce. The restaurant is also near weta cave so you can have lunch/dinner here before/after visiting weta cave!
M.
6/5 stars!! Great level 3 service, I had lost my face mask so they gave me a disposable one. Praise be the return of takeaways - yummmy coffee, breakie burger, fries and crossiants to share and perk us up. LOVELY SERVICE smiling eyes through the masks #kind
J.
Food was delicious!! Recommend to all.we will be back for sure .
E.
The Larder is so good that we had to wait for a table but it was definitely worth it! We particularly enjoyed the coconut and pandan eclair! Would highly recommend.
T.
Had the meatballs and pasta and it was excellent. The place was full when I arrived so they offered to take my name for the next table to open up. Service was friendly, great place to have lunch.
C.
Wellington's best neighbourhood eatery - food superb, staff are wonderful.
S.
Cozy neighbourhood cafe. Lovely food, attentive staff. Great for a weekend brunch.
a.
Good food, good drinks, great service, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere, clean washrooms, no queue.
w.
Friendly service. Genuinely happy to serve you. Good range of food. Not far from Weta Cave, so handy if you've just done a tour. Out of all the brunches I've had in Wellington (which are a lot), this place is my favourite. Wholesome and unique food, reasonably prices, simple decor, and friendly and relaxed staff.
I.
Absolutely loved the hand cut fries. Great afternoon catching up with friends
t.
The place was absolutely jam packed when we arrived, Tony (maître d maybe?) was cool as a cucumber, and had us wait in the sun until a table freed up. We were seated within five minutes of arriving, and food came only ten minutes after that. Absolutely speedy service for a busy day! The coffee was amazing, and the food outstanding. All of the staff were professional, and clearly knew what they were doing. Kitchen staff were under the pump but it looked like it was bustling.
I’d highly recommend heading over to the Larder if you’ve never been, the staff there are in my opinion, worth every dollar they earn. Will absolutely be back, and in greater numbers.
T.
I had the breakfast burger and it was delicious! and very reasonably priced. The coffee was nice and the staff were really organised and lovely considering it was hectic and there were people lining up out the door just to get in. In-house made bread and pastry is a highlight, all at a fair value. The larder gets it all right.
T.
This must be the BEST pie I've ever eaten!!!
Wagyu Brisket pie the pastry is delicious, the whole experience was delicious $12.50 but honestly worth each bite. It was one of those pies you don't want to come to an end... its that good
I.
This would have to be the best Cafe I've been to. Good coffee and excellent food along with top notch service. My 1st 5 star rating.
S.
Great service and delicious food, really cool spot if you in Miramar
G.
They know how to do brekkie right, just like TripAdvisor had said. Quite busy though so expect a wait. Tumeric hash browns are unique and their poached eggs sourdough sammie is banging. Perfect meal before a flight
A.
Excellent coffe and food with friendly service and with a smile!
R.
Out of all the brunches I've had in Wellington (which are a lot), this place is my favourite. Wholesome and unique food, reasonably prices, simple decor, and friendly and relaxed staff. Honestly, the only negative thing I have to say is that I wish I lived closer! But it is worth the cheeky bus ride out.
J.
Superb coffee and food with friendly staff and quick service. Loved sitting outside in the quiet and beautiful Miramar setting! Highly recommend the goat's cheese souffle!
I'll definitely be adding this to my favourites list!
A.
Arrived to find busy cafe buzzing with happy staff and patrons. To avoid waiting as seated at high table near entrance but food did not disappoint .. so delicious and appetising. Food is presented with all the care and detail touches of a city restaurant, This cafe offers clean, healthy food options which in Wellington are a little hard to find in the cafe market.
L.
Staff were friendly and the food was good. So many more on the menu we need to try!
P.
The food is tasty and hearty. Service very friendly.
R.
Food was amazing! I had the poached eggs and a flat white. Service was great, this is one of the first places that I've come to in Wellington where you are seated at a table and your order is placed at a table then you pay as you leave. Overall this place is very good and i really like it. Go back soon
L.
Excellent place to stop for a bite. Very friendly and efficient staff. Menu items plus daily specials. Order taken promptly and food arrived promptly too. Fresh and delicious. Well priced. Indoor as well as outdoor seating. Super clean bathrooms. Lovely ambience. Well worth the visit and will go here again. Food nicely presented and very cheerful service. Due to the confined space is noisy and a bit overwhelming when busy, however for many this would add to its charm. Interesting menu. Definitely a very popular cafe with people waiting to be seated, however efficiently managed.
T.
This was fabulous. Great service and food 11/10. Most delicious brunch ever!! I wanted to come back the same day but my partner wouldn't let me
Z.
Amazing local cafe. Extremely friendly staff, great long black coffee and phenomenal decor.
D.
Brunch on a Saturday. Staff are friendly & helpful. Barista made a great short macchiarto, many get it wrong. Poached eggs on potato rosti was excellent. Eggs perfect with runny yolk, rosti crunchy & not oily. Bacon a bit overcooked for my taste. Great place before or after visiting the Weta Cave. Dogs welcome outside with outdoor diners.
S.
Awesome falafel! Great service. We didn't have a booking but they squeezed us in before our Weta Tour - the studio is very close by.
T.
Great place. Very friendly and tasty food.
C.
One of the best, if not the best cafe in Wellington I've been to. Simple but excellent breakfast and lunch menu with all the staples and a few more fancy lunch choices. Fresh pies and sandwiches behind the counter. Excellent service. Coffee is singularly great. If you eat here during the week prepare to rub shoulders with staff from Weta getting lunch or their caffeine fix.
D.
Best Brunch I got in this restaurant.
C.
Delicious well presented food and good coffee. The scrambled eggs were just right, and the smoked salmon was obviously high quality. Lots of options, good to see a couple of vegetarian options (could always be more though). The staff were friendly and professional. We picked this since it was close to The Weta Cave, but worth a trip to Miramar just for their food.
S.
My grandma and I had lunch here, and both very enjoyed it. She had the brains which she was very excited about because it was something her mother use to cook for her, and she had not had it in over 50 years. She was very pleased and enjoyed it thoroughly. I had the steak salad, which I was at first a bit apprehensive about. But it was absolutely amazing and the grilled halloumi was perfect. It was the best meal we had throughout our whole trip in New Zealand.
B.
Great coffee and they make amazing food and cakes. The staff are very helpful and friendly if you are in the area I would definitely recommend trying this place it wont disappoint.
W.
Great food at reasonable prices. Bought a sour dough bread as well. Definately return next time we are in Wellington.
i.
Love the Larder, excellent food and coffee, friendly efficient staff. They make their own bread which you can buy by the loaf. On a Tuesday they make 3 different sausage rolls including a vege option. Very tasty. Shame they are no longer open in the evening. Still great option for breakfast, brunch or lunch 6 days s week.
P.
Superb coffee and great food. Super-friendly wait staff. Great place to dinner either before or after your Weta Workshop tour or Weta Cave visit.
P.
I had visitors from Auckland who were booked to go on a tour at WetaCave so we went to lunch at Larder. I hadn't been there for sometime but I was really impressed. All three of our meals were fantastic and I was very proud of our local restaurant. Great food good service and pleasant surroundings.
J.
Absolutely the most excellent food spot in the Eastern bays. Only open for lunch anymore, but hey, good food is good even if no lunch is served. And this isn't just good food. This is top notch french Italian flavour mixed with a local athmosphere.
M.
The food is rich and the prices are good. It is all traditional kiwi on the menu but it is of very good quality.
A.
There is no two-ways-about-it. This is one of the very best eateries in Wellington. A shame it is no longer open for dinner. Fine food, well prepared, lovely environment (including fire in cold times). We had a great lamb brain dish one afternoon that my tiny grandchildren thought was the best thing ever. Well prepared!
M.
A elightful caramel slice and favorite Supreme coffee along with good smiling attentive staff made a take away visit most enjoyable. Sunday late morning visit and guests were waiting at an entry leaner as seating turned over. Chocka block but staff handled it all professionally and were people focused.
L.
Portabello mushrooms on toast. Simple dish but executed so well! The bread was the best I've had in NZ. Fluffy with the right density on the inside and the best crust I've had outside of France. It maintained its crunch despite the mushrooms.
Coffee was good too.
Also catered for gluten free people.
R.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch at this Well known local Miramar cafe and restaurant. It was Father’s Day and busy all day, but we were able to book our table and enjoyed good service. The food was also great, eggs Benedict, some had octopus and others the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Also just along the road from Weta Studios which is very handy. We will definitely be back.
C.
Staff are attentive and friendly. It is extremely noisy and it is difficult to hold a conversation. Food is prompt to arrive. While tasty the meat was way too salty. It is expensive for the quality of the food. Not sure if I would return
B.
Very tasty lunch here with good coffee n ginger slice earlier in the day. Very handy if visiting Weta Cave.
J.
Exceptional, in every sense.
The food is scrumptious and the perfect serving. The service is great, you are made to feel welcome without being overbearing.
Coffee is also delicious.
Can’t recommend high enough.
C.
Amazing food. Almond croissant is a must try! Lovely staff
K.
My favourite brunch place in Wgtn - or maybe NZ! Love the rosti, the hollandaise and the balsamic mushrooms. Great coffee. Perhaps most impressively, the staff are lovely people - helpful and responsive, intelligent and personable!
E.
Could have been just another diner living off the tourist trade to Weta Studios, but instead it's an excellent restaurant with inventive delicious food. Had two side dishes; lamb kidneys in a great sauce and deep fried crumbed lamb brains, and both were brilliant. My companions were more conventional, and they had the grouper burger and salad with pork belly, which were also great. Reasonable prices.
M.
I was in Wellington for a few days recently and this would be the BEST brunch café I've ever been too. The food was delicious, all free range, excellent quality and cooked to perfection. The cabinet goodies looked amazing too. Service was top notch. Thoroughly recommend this café.
K.
Super friendly service, beautiful interior, good coffee and amazing food!
P.
Great service and beautiful food - no change table in the bathrooms left me in a tricky position with my infant. I'd still go back though.
R.
My third visit was last Sunday with five friends. Just a coffee and a snack. Wellington generally has a fantastic cafe scene and this is a place that should be at the top of everybody's list. Great food, great service fair prices.
G.
Delicious burgers and food, we really enjoyed our lunch. Staff were friendly, and service was quick. The fish burger was really tasty, and although a little busy, food came in a timely manner.
D.
Great service and great food!
K.
Brunch here was "Sing-While-Eating" good! The chilli hot chocolate was perfectly spiced. Service was sweet. Had the Octopus and Chorizo... Not even slightly chewy and super delicious. 100% will be back, and bringing others!
J.
Pork belly hash with black pudding here is one of my favourite all time breakfasts. The black pudding is the best I've tasted. Friendly staff and good coffee too.
C.
Come here quite a bit and it's always delicious. Reasonably priced and fantastic food and coffee. Staff, especially the owners, are wonderful. Definitely recommend!
K.
Very posh, very classy. Staff are great and friendly. Food is amazing!
B.

S.
Lovely lunch on a Saturday morning, we really enjoyed the service that was fast and friendly.
The burger and fries were delicious, and my friends loved their meals too.
j.

I'll be back!
L.

M.
Terrific experience. Superb service and some of the best coffee in Wellington. Haven't sampled most of their fare -but plan to do so! Highly, highly recommended!
A.
Busy cafe, and for a good reason! Lovely weekend brunch spot.
A.
Lovely cafe! Friendly efficient service and good menu choice. I really enjoyed the vibe created by the artwork on the wall! It's just nice to be there.
S.
Food and service always spot on!
S.
Excellent food (cheese souffle, risotto, croque monsieur are my favourite) and staff is really nice, I love it!
T.
Best place for lunch in Wellington (It may be the best place for dinner too but I have not had dinner there yet). A new menu each day as well as and freshly made sandwiches with freshly made bread and great fillings such as rare-ish roast beef or salmon. I dine here often - partly as Big Al's Cameras is just across the road and is fun to browse in or just to wind up the proprietor!
P.
Pre-Christmas lunch with friends with a Greek themed menu by request. Felt like we were guests at Sarah's home thanks to her warm hospitality, wonderful food and excellent service.
R.
The service was exceptional. Quite easily the friendliest I have ever experience. The food was quite yum too.
L.
Just too good to be real, bring your apatite and anyone you need to win over the larder will do the rest.
Have been a half dozen times and allways had excellent food with lovely service
Pro tip don't neglect the baked goods cabinet.
A.
Best meal I've had in a long time. Seasonal 5* cafe restaurant style food. Get the grilled octopus salad while it's available!
g.
Service and Food both are amazing, make our day. Thank you guys definitely visit when we come next time.
J.
Always a classic with fantastic food. Even in the midst of a record breaking storm
L.
Really friendly staff. Delicious coffee and food. Just an all round excellent cafe. (Wished they offered wifi).
m.
I went at lunchtime (the prices are lower than dinner time) and wasn't disappointed. The food is delicious, the service is great, and the place very cute. Highly recommend!
B.
Oh my - such fabulous kidneys on toast - presentation stunning and food delicious. Staff very attentive - but not fussy. Recommend.
R.

Amazing. Pop up dinner of the British Isles style food. Great service, amazing food, wonderful place. (Jamie was our host and was awesome)
K.
Food was only exceeded by the service. Highly recommend. Get in early as they don't do small bookings and are very busy during lunch.
M.

(Translated) We received Almond croissant, Donuts, Flat White. The almond croissant was crispy on the outside and tightly packed on the inside, and it was satisfying to eat with just one piece. It was very delicious. The donuts weren't too sweet and the cream inside was mellow and very delicious. There were a lot of breads and sweets in the cabinet and I was wondering which one to choose. I'm going to eat something different again! Thank you for the meal!
