Meals were a little small for pricing. I ate two mains and I'm not a big Joker lol but beautiful and great service.

Brilliant place for dinner, staff were very friendly. A great place to relax. Loved the hop plants.

Nice pub meals. Slow from the kitchen (2hrs) but we were a big group and didn't book, so no worries. We had drinks, served by our lovely young wait person. Nice we could support local. 24 of us Aucklanders!

Steaks and entrees were fantastic, massive serves! We ordered calamari and lamb croquettes, 400g stone grill rump and the 250g sirloin. Got a bit excited, should’ve halved the main. We are still talking about this meal a few days on. Only let down was the attitude of the senior male manager, he didn’t make us feel welcome.

Good service, great menu options. Love the ability to cook my steak myself. Kids meals are huge.

Stopped in for dinner at the Denniston Dog. Loved it. Awesome friendly staff were great to chat with and real quick with the service. We had the stone grill which was beautiful. The steak was excellent as you'd expect but the sides were equally good. Would love to try more on the menu. Great atmosphere in the cafe and the outdoor area looks good for a nice day. Can't wait to come back.

Really enjoyed the chicken tacos and the elderly lady I was with enjoyed the seafood cowder she couldn't eat it all was very filling.

Amazing staff, great service. We bought our puppy in with us and the staff offered us food and water for him. Will be back if we are in town again.

Great food and atmosphere. I had the stone grill for dinner which was delicious - the fries were like little roast potatoes. The wine I ordered wasn’t right but I wasn’t too fussed as the staff were welcoming and friendly, making sure we were served and comfortable. Nice music too!

Our burger and fish were excellent, the staff was very friendly. Really liked it here and can recommend it to everyone. :)

Punching well above its weight. Small town friendly service with an extensive menu almost entirely lacking in Vegetarian/Vegan options.

Good chowder. Beer was expensive. Other items we had were ok. We didn't get a follow up table visit by anyone asking if our meals were ok, or if we would like another drink.

Rating on what the place is we were more than happy with the food, staff and rustic style seating. Clean. Not overly expensive. Would go again, which unfortunately is unlikely as first and likely only time in this area.

Such a great time here! The green curry is stellar, especially with that delicious chapatti bread. My wife’s cannelloni with pumpkin and feta cheese was also scrumptious. And on top of that, the music selection is epic and the waitstaff is kind and funny!

The Steaks were massive and of good tender quality. The idea to serve it on a hot stone and leave the guest “cook” it to his liking was an experience I never had before. We were stoked. The girls serving you worked hard, smiled all the time and did an awesome job and the prices are absolute ok for the amount of food you will get. Nobody ever will leave this place hungry or bored, I guarantee!

Excellent meal and fantastic service. My son is vegan and whilst there were vegetarian options on the menu, when the waitress asked if he was vegan she went and talked to the chef who made a fantastic vegan burger that my son really enjoyed. That is real customer service and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

My wife and I found this place through Google recommendations, having visited a rather poor competing eating house. We received a pleasant welcome from Ellen and we were soon served our drinks. We both chose steaks, my wife the sirloin and me the "cook it yourself" option. Mine arrived on a sizzling hot stone which cooked the steak to my taste - great fun. (I picked the 200gm portion, which was ample, though there was a 400gm option.) The service was excellent and the price very reasonable - go there, you won't regret it!

Would definitely recommend this place the food was very tasty and the girl that served us was very friendly and helpful. We asked for fish and chips to share and they bought it out on 2 plates.

An unfortunate dinner experience, but wonderful food. Had to go to the bar to check if a waitress took orders as nobody came to our table. My friend and I ordered 1 dish each - me a starter, my friend a main course. Intention being to eat concurrently. Perhaps not stated clearly enough, but... My steamed rolls came ... to share? (err no - clarified with waitress). No cutlery. The waitress queried, so I said chopsticks (what else?). Ah. No chopsticks. After awhile (2 dumplings into the 4), my friend went to check where was her meal? Coming. When I finished my wine and meal, still no sign of my friend’s dish (45 mins). Another 10 minutes later, the dish arrived. No apology. Nor was there an apology from “awesome” waitress at the till. By “awesome” I mean this was her favourite word, repeated in every response if possible. The dish was well prepared and tasty though.

We arrived here for a late lunch, just before the kitchen closed. There were a few other tables finishing up and a few people in for afternoon coffee. While not all the lunch menu was available because of the late hour, our chicken and bacon salads were delicious and fresh. The portions were very good and the prices resonable. The owner was friendly and even helped us by recommending a place to stay in the next town along our journey. Highly recommended.

Excellent food - very tasty. We ordered a starter (dumplings) and a main (hawker’s rolls) to share. Extra sideplates and cutlery from the attentive waitress. Drinks came first, food soon after with both dishes together as requested.

Great service with lovely smiles. The price made me wonder, however when the food arrived it was well worth it. There was plenty on the plate, it was delicious and and I felt totally satisfied especially washing the food down with a local beer. I would go there again

Omg we had dinner here and have been amazed at how lovely the service was and the size and value of the meals. Kids meals were a real hit and the burgers were all you needed. You will not be disappointed.

Second time here in a couple of months while up from Chch. Absolutely delicious yet again. The Lamb was perfect, the Steak was perfect, the Fish was perfect. Have to come back for dessert tomorrow as we couldnt fit it in tonight. Compliments to the Chef. Yet again. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Came here outside of lunch/dinner times, but was offered something from the snack menu. To my astonishment, they have stone-grilled beef on there. This is just a piece of raw meat which they serve you on a 400°C stone and you just leave it on there until it is cooked as much as you like it. Amazing experience and it tastes great!

Ive had some fabulous meals here and some pretty average ones as well. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rest rooms clean and tidy. Love the closed in verandah dining with over head heating. Good Coffee is dependent on which barista is on.

Nachos were nice but all sauces I believe should be added first then cooked. Not sure of the extras accompanying the pork belly. Overall flavors are good.

The best service I’ve had in 9 months of traveling NZ. Two very charming ladies took care of my partner and I late in the evening after the rest of the town had shut down. And the food! Golly wolly. Get the angus! Not only is it delicious and healthy (no added oils or fats), but It’s also served to you on a hot granite platter so you can cook it to your liking. What a great experience!

Arrived just before the kitchen closed and got the chicken salad which was extremely tasty! The staff make the place though and their emphasis on the relaxed atmosphere starts with them. We felt very welcome despite arriving so late, and I'd recommend this place if you're in the area.

We had the stonegrill special for backpacker travelers, i.e. $17.50 for beef, chicken or veggies grilled on the hot stone with a side salad and fries, peppercorn sauce and a drink (draught beer or house wine). The service was incredibly friendly and the food outstandingly delicious! Great value for money and an amazing dinner option.

Kumar chips were part of a meal,so I asked for just a bowl of the Kumar chips ,most enjoyable suggest you put these on your menu, we all enjoyed our meals and the staff were friendly, many thanks

This was best seafood chowder I have had the pleasure to taste in quite some time. Some wonderful old historical maps and photos and good, old fashioned West Coast welcome.

Far better food than I'd expected at a pub in a windswept town. The hawker roti were truly excellent in particular. Very nice range of non alcoholic beverages to boot.

We arrived at the bar on a Tuesday and got talking to a very friendly barmaid - Heather. I inquired about their opening hours as there was a gane on the following morning at 9am that I had hoped to watch. Despite the bar not opening until 10am, I was told to come ahead at 9am as Karen and Sally would be here. I arrived the following morning and the game was already on the tv as my arrival was expected. All 3 ladies were very accoodating and welcoming. Thanks again for your hospitality. What a fun restaurant this was! We really enjoyed ordering off the Stone Grill menu for dinner. We split two things between us and both entrees were excellent.

Staff are as usual wonderful and attentive, food was excellent, particularly the chocolate pudding. The mains took a wee bit too long to come out though.

The food was excellent whitebait was yumm chicken was yumm . The chips i would of preferred to have been bigger so less chance of over cooking them , but if that's the only complaint then we are all good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful . DOG friendly must be on a leash . Toilets were very clean. The menu had a wide variety of choices . Opening hrs vary from day to day , see one of the photos .
