This restaurant is located in a beautiful area, right by the water where the lights from the sidewalk lamps and yachts reflect off the water. Front of house staff were lovely! And managed to fit us in despite not having a booking. Was really looking forward to ordering food described on the menu, however our options were limited as they were out of half, of everything on there. The beverages they make are refreshing and taste great, and presentation of the food is immaculate and pricey. Only downside is that, for Asian fusion food it was bland. Lacking the sweet, salty, sour, spicy flavours I’m used to. However being from Auckland where everyone must bring the best of the best to be able to stay afloat, I will say expectations are different. Overall this place is good for some Saturday drinks, but grab good food for cheaper else where.

Fantastic waitress at lunch today, her and the chef were very accommodating of my sons allergies and happy to go the extra mile for him. Made for such a positive experience. We had a delicious lunch in a great setting. Recommend. Thanks,Number 8!

Lovely place by the Town Basin. Great drink menu. I had the special Gin number 4 which was marvelous. When there a second time for dinner. Asian fusion menu. Food was really delicious. Highly recommended.

Covid entry procedures were quick and easy. We were a last minute walk in and the team were great. We had a great server who looked after us. The food was very tasty and a great selection of drinks. Definitely worth a visit.

Pork belly was delicious, as was the kale salad. Unfortunately, I must have misread the menu as my soba noodles came cold opposed to my expectation of hot. Pani Puri dessert was disappointing for the price. Service was attentive until the restaurant got busy and then we were hard pushed to attract the attention of the wait staff.

Excellent menu with plenty of choice for all tastes and dietary needs. Asian fusion beautifully cooked and presented by lovely staff. A 6pm booking worked well and we chose to do sharesies between the 7 of us and ordered some dishes entree size and others full size. No problem to the staff or the kitchen. Started to get very busy at 7pm. Highly recommend you try this restaurant if you are in Whangarei.

The location just can't be bettered, and the food couldn't have been bettered either. The staff were attentive in that special way that means you know they are there when you need them but are not bothered by them the rest of the time. The staff here are great. I've mainly used their excellent coffee skills to provide a break from work and the coffee is ALWAYS great. One guy (Sean) made an extra effort to make a soy flat white 'come out right' and I couldn't tell the difference between it and the dairy version.

Went for Dinner on New year's eve. Not really impressed. The dumplings had thick wrappers and tasteless. The beans were old and hollow. Beef was nice but had a stuffing even a knife couldn't cut. On a positive note the chicken wings and calamari was delicious. Staff were nice. Wouldn't recomend and won't return.

I noticed the eggplant bibimap portion had shrunk it's serving plate size. Also super limited craft beer selection. One garden variety pilsner. So much great NZ craft beer out there so be awesome to see them expand their range.

Awesome spot, one of the best we have been to in Whangarei. Great view over the basin, quite a unique set up inside; there is a great big open bar with an atrium like ceiling. The food was delicious and there was a reasonable selection too.

Booked ahead and was given a table on the top balcony overlooking the marina: a prime spot! We mainly chose a selection of 4 small plates and one large plate for 4 of us with a mixture of Indian, Thai and Vietnamese cuisine across those 5 plates. They were all delicious. Still had room for dessert so also proclaimed these delicious (lemon almond cake, and the daily specials : Nutella chocolate brownie and donut with plum ice cream). Service was excellent

Stumbled across this restaurant while travelling back to Auckland, and I'm glad we did. Really delicious Asian-fusion flavours in a relaxed atmosphere with great service. The small shared plates are a good way to sample more items, which you want to do because they all look delicious on the menu, and are great in reality. There's a kids' menu too, with the standards (chicken nuggets etc) if your kids aren't into the interesting flavours. The specials were all great, with delicious meaty wontons being a hit.

We went for an evening meal here, and were delighted with the menu, which had dishes from all over the world as both starters and mains. We were spoilt for choice!!The waiter was on his own, and very relaxed in his approach to things, which was fine, but meant there was some delay in having the table wiped when we sat down, to taking the order etc.The food took a little time to come to us as well, but when it did the food was lovely.I really like the idea of having a tapas and 'round the world' menu to chose from, and when you are on holiday the relaxed atmosphere was nice.

Comfortable dining in a lovely biilding. We had booked and yet were offered an inside or verandah table. Warm night so chose the verandah. Friendly staff. Chose about 7 plates to share. Food arrived suprisingly fast. Delicious food. May have been because of being monday night...not all desserts were available. But would happily return as reasonably priced.

Never really rushed to go here before now as I always assumed it was another Chinese restaurant. But 8 is different. They really do pan Asian fusion really well. The dishes come out to share and can be quite small so fill up on rice. Flavours are exceptional though. We had the dumplings and the squid which was perfectly cooked. After you've ordered all the dishes to make a meal it's probably works out more expensive than traditional restaurants. A great place for a treat now and again. The balcony is warm and cozy at night with views of basin. Staff really friendly and efficient. Our server had an in-depth knowledge of the menu and ingredients - impressive. Would highly recommend.

The meal I recently had here has restored my faith in No.8, it was over a year since I last had dinner here & it was almost the opposite, cold food and my favourite dish soft shell crab was unrecognizable & saltier than m$#o... fast forward to this week & a great value meal, all dishes were cooked beautifully. Only unfortunate thing for me is my fav dish has been changed from a plate of soft shell crabs to just 2 or 3 on a tortilla or breadlike food, and some salad, way less crab. If it was with a large corn fritter instead of the wrap/bread I think could be better value, and add more flavour. Overall, I will definitely be back soon. Thanks No. 8

I'm a Foodie. I love my food like a fat kid loves cake. Since moving to Whangarei from Los Angeles, I have really missed the diversity of cuisine and access to great food. No. 8 ticks a lot of boxes for me. Asian Fusion with a Kiwi twist, incredible cocktails from a skilled Mixologist, and a sophisticated vibe, not often seen in these parts. It has become one of my favorites! Definitely worth a visit!
