C.This would definitely be a 5 star if our service wasn't so scattered, they really need to stick to one waiter per table we ended up having 3 so our food and drinks came really slow. Other than that food was amazing drinks were reasonably priced I will definitely be coming back. Probably one of the best places to eat in the area!
J.This place became a Mexican restaurant after lockdown and while it's nice to have a Mexican eatery here in Whangarei now, it kind of misses the authenticity factor. We only found out after the meal that there's a wide array of hot sauces available - they're not at the table but up where you pay at the counter. Maybe someone forgot to mention it when they took our orders. Some redecoration has been done to accommodate the new direction, but it needs to go a lot further than two sombreros hanging off a rafter and some coloured lights.
The dinner was tasty, and about the right size for the money. I was told the enchiladas are reheated, which is a bit of a shame considering how easy they are to make at the time, and mine had baking paper under it that had to be separated from the food at times and frequently got in the way. The chili con queso comes with more corn chips than you have cheese for, so a bit more generosity there would be nice. We were never meal checked until they came to take our plates away, and the waitress forgot to tell us the special of the day when she was first there. At first I thought the selection was incredibly limited, but it turns out my menu was just missing a page!
I think the next time we visit will be for takeout only - we love Mexican food but there are limited opportunities to "go out" for dinner and we'd rather be completely stoked with our meal.
S.We had a lovely dinner. Food was great. The birthday cookie (pre ordered when booking) was a hit with the birthday boy. Sadly not enough staff on they were run ragged, and we waited to order drinks for some time. Not their fault. We would go back
C.It has a welcoming feeling as your walking in the doors and the service was good, we had a lovely waiter friendly and inviting.
We waited a while for our food considering their was 5 of us at the table and it was busy. I was surprised we got a table because we didn't book either so that was good.
There was a hick up with our meal because the waiter gave my plate to someone else on our table by accident and i wasn't going to wait for them to make it again so instead of having lamb shank and mash i have scotch fillet and fries. It was delicious so it makde up for their mistake.
A.Scrumptious food, very attentive service. We recommend the Red Baron pizza, Saffron Seafood Tagliatelle, Prawn Linguine and the Pork Belly.

S.Had a nice meal there tonight however my steak was ordered rare and came medium which was a little disappointing. However on bringing it to the managers attention she promptly refunded the full cost of the meal. Service like this does not go unnoticed and its refreshing that our host made amends so willingly. We all know that sometimes things are not perfect and it was a busy night for them. So well done guys. Overall we enjoyed our visit.
r.This place was fantastic. The food was delicious and they were more than happy to make alterations to the meal for specific requirements. There was a slight delay for one of the meals coming out, but the taste definitely made up for it. (I would also highly recommend the piña colada)
N.Really good! The food was great and (compared to other Mexican restaurants I've been to) reasonably priced. Staff were very attentive. Great flavours and the smells coming from the kitchen are divine. Definitely try the spiced orange cake - it's pretty sweet but very delicious.
P.Really loved a lot about this place: the decor, ambience, music, staff, menu. Unfortunately the food let it down. My wife and I had the veggie and vegan nachos respectively and they had an odd taste, hard to pin down what the problem was. They were the worst nachos I've had, they weren't horrible, I just normally have great nachos and they weren't. My kids enjoyed their food but the pizza was over priced.
a.Great place. Nice atmosphere. Attentive staff but not obtrusive. Food and chilli rating were well explained. Lovely margarita 🍹. I would have liked a little more chicken and less onion in my fajitas but the enchillada was great.

S.Food tasted great! We had a large group of people and the food was served buffet style which was nice. Though there were Gluten free options, they were clearly labeled, they put them in the middle with all the other food which can cause cross contamination. Part from that it was excellent service!
A.Tried out the new Mexican takeaway menu. Was tasty enough but felt like the portion size was not proportionate for the amount that we paid. We do enjoy supporting local businesses but would have preferred 'more bang for your buck'.

N.Easy 5 star review. Firstly, our waitress was so polite and informative. She even got down to our seated level to help us make a pizza which I thought was funny. The garlic and thyme bread entree we got was delicious, along with the custom pizza and my carbonara. Will be dining here again for my next italian cravings and so should you!!!

C.I REALLY wanted to love this place.
I feel I should preface this review with a "temporary tag" since we went a week or two after they had opened, so I suspect they were still working up to their full stride. So take that into account when reading this review. I hope to edit this review after future visits with a positive update.
I'm from California. Some call it Northern Mexico. I won't argue. I LOVE Mexican food and had it with regularity when I lived in Los Angeles. That being said, I am most familiar with a Baja Style of Mexican vs. the TexMex that this restaurant seems to be based on. That being said, I had a Mate from Houston who tried to educate me on the joys of TexMex....especially the staple appetizer, Queso (pronounced "kay-so").
Excited to see it on the menu we ordered it, but it was hard to get past the waitress confirming we wanted "coo-ee-so". Again, early days...plus, I imagine most Kiwis don't hear Spanish on the regular, so this can be remedied and is forgivable.
We ordered drinks. Pitcher of Sangria was good. Fancy margaritas...I was a bit confused about. I think it was $17 for a blue curacao based margarita that appeared to be about 3oz of liquid (mixer+booze) with a sugared rim. No ice. That's it. I can't say I had ever had a margarita without ice in some form, but again, this may just be because I'm not familiar with TexMex. My girlfriend thought it was tasty, so that's a win.
I found a few dishes a bit sweet. The queso and chicken tacos, in particular. That was something I wasn't used to. I was also a bit surprised by the miniscule portion of rice and beans that came with my tacos. Even in the more upscale LA Mexican Restaurants (Red O, comes to mind), you were often provided ample rice and beans. Again, not bad, just different.
The wait for food our table of 7 was a bit glacial, and you have to go up to the bar to order drinks.
All that being said, I will be back.
I admire that the owners have taken a chance on a new cuisine for Whangarei and I see heaps of potential. Now that quite some time has passed since my first visit, I may have to try again. I wish more Kiwis took on that mentality vs "the one and done" I usually see.
I'm comin' back for you, Red Mexicasa, and hope I can update this review with glowing examples of your infinite potential!
V.Went on a night out with a few friends from work on Saturday. It was fairly busy and had a nice atmosphere. We were served by a lovely girl named Lucy who was very chatty and friendly and served us quickly and made sure we had everything we wanted. We really enjoyed our night so thank you :)

K.Enjoyed an amazing oven baked lamb and there seasonal red pizza, which was excellent. Followed by there gingerbread and dark chocolate moose cake, well plated and delightful, also there 6 year running customer favourite, chocolate 'lava' fondant cake with ice cream, will definitely be our favourite choice and will be returning again with there amazing staff and services even during peak services times.
D.Good service and nice atmosphere. Was quiet as we went early at 5.30pm. Pizzas are quite expensive but good. Only downside was that the chef put waaay too much mozzarella cheese on them so it was like a rubber coating.

L.We've been looking for a decent 'Takeaway' pasta here in Whangarei and we've finally found the spot! The fettucini meatballs are AMAZEBALLS! Loved it! Our Pizza was awesome too. We called to order at 7.15pm and to our surprise the wait time was only 10 mins! Not many places you can get quality food, fast service and great service. We will definitely be back again!
R.It was very busy when we went so we had to wait for an hour and a half. The food was good though (I just don't know wether it was worth the wait). A door was open pulling a draft in making it quite chilly. They also had run out of the Salted Caramel Ice cream Sandwich which was sad.
