Reviews of Sangam Indian Cuisine
J.
Lovely service. Amazing food filled with so much flavor. By far the best Indian meal I've had.
S.
Loved the look of the menu and was not disappointed at all. We loved the vegetarian mixed entree, then adored the goat curry and lamb saagwala.
Great atmosphere, friendly service, highly recommend
J.
Wow! What a turn around... Had avoided the place for years as had walked out many years ago after waiting for service. Pleased to say after a dine in for six adults last Saturday it was fantastic. Fast friendly service, authentic Indian meals. Absolutely brilliant night out. Will be back.
A.
Nice place, right in heart of town. Due to busy weekend they served express menu instead of standard menu as on display outside. Quick service. Dal tarka was delicious. Book in advance if going there on a long weekend. Will go again if in town.
D.
This is a great Indian restaurant in Whitianga.
I went with a large group of people this was not an issue with the staff and the service was fantastic.
Within the group we had a wide range of different meals and entrees all of them were well-presented came out together and were very well received. These meals were excellent value and good quality.
This the restaurant I could recommend to return to.
L.
Had a meal here tonite and must say I haven’t had a better Indian meal. It was pouring down in whitianga and we thought we will go out for a curry and we are so glad for choosing this restaurant. Had a mushroom masala, a daal makhani and a chicken malay and all three curries were gorgeous. The decor was top notch as well. This is now our new favourite restaurant in whitianga. We will surely be back and recommend it highly!
G.
We found this only indian restaurant when we went out for a day out in Whitianga. Must say, the food was great, the service was awesome.
Overall, it was a good experience to be in that restaurant. On duty manager Mr. Stephan was doing great job in handling the customers.
R.
We came to Sangam for dinner on Christmas Eve 2021. All I can say if you are wanting to go out for Indian Cuisine come here. Food was amazing with fabulous friendly staff. Also lovely to be served by the owner.
We shared an entree of battered scallops, delicious light seasoned batter. Mains were Butter Chicken and Seafood Masala, 10/10 for both these dishes. Garlic Naan according to husband best he’s had.
We will definately come again when in Whitianga.
S.
Amazing restaurant, fantastic food and the team were so friendly and helpful. If you're in Whitianga, you should definitely try it! Highly recommend the Chicken Rogan Josh and Chilli Prawn Masala.
J.
Amazing service, excellent food, highly recommended! The hot brownie was absolutely delicious. If you're in Whitianga, Sangam is a 'must visit'.
A.
Ugh. I hate to say that I was disappointed in this place!
It had amazing reviews, so we decided to give it a go.
Let me start off by saying that the ladies who served us had excellent customer service. They were so attentive and sweet. We really appreciated that.
We ordered a mango lassi, lamb vindaloo and lamb roganjosh.
The mango lassi had desiccated coconut bits, which wasn’t great because not only did it clog the straw, they added a weird textural component to a yogurt drink. It was my first time having it this way, so maybe i didn’t like it due to my personal preference.
Both the roganjosh and vindaloo were ridiculously salty (Reason #1). However, the meat was tender, which was nice.
Traditionally, Rogan josh is red, and vindaloo is not made with potatoes (despite having the words aloo in the name). (Reason#2)
I could not tolerate the salt as well, compared to my dad who joined me at dinner. The server was super apologetic and returned the roganjosh to the kitchen to have it prepped again for my sake. (Such a sweetheart!)
Unfortunately, it came out only slightly saltier than before, and still overly salty!
Due to the two reasons above, I wonder if the curries share the same base (that unfortunately was overly salted).
M.
Very nice food. We had lamb rogan josh chicken Tikka marsala, chicken korma and vegetables. The serves were generous, and the taste very nice. Great place to take the kids, and good for a feed before hitting the pub for some drinks. I reccomend.
C.
Honestly some of the BEST Indian food I’ve ever eaten! Great service and awesome vibe. Sweet as!
C.
Do yourself a favour and visit this lovely restaurant in Whitianga town. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing. What an amazing team and a big thanks to chef Sushil for the amazing food. Absolutely the best meal we had while in town. Highly recommend!
M.
My friends and I shared a lovely and delicious meal here complete with great hosts and peaceful atmosphere. We were so impressed that we came back for a second meal and had an equally impressve experience. Thank you for making our time in Whitianga extra enjoyable!
J.
Great food, they stay open late, and do takeaways. The butter chicken is top notch.
J.
We visited this restaurant twice on our holiday in Whitianga. Both times the place was busy but staff were very attentive and friendly. Service is top notch.
Food is really nice, I had the king prawns one night and lamb shank the other. The lamb shank is a large meal, be prepared!
Love this place and hope to return.
L.
Great job to the young man that looked after us on Sunday 13 June. We ordered butter chicken with 2 cheesy garlic naans and the lamb rack. Curry and Naan were delicious only wish the lamb we received was an actual rack..not lamb cutlets (4) it was a little over priced for what got. Otherwise everything else was great.
C.
Here at Christmas, Lamb Korma and Chicken Do Pyaza were excellent! Great service highly recommended.
L.
We arrived late in whitianga and all the kitchens were closed. We didn't particularly feel like Indian, but Sangam was open so we went in. The food was outstanding, the service and atmosphere were great. We would not hesitate to go back. Very enjoyable evening.
K.
I eat Indian quiet often. They have the best food in New Zealand no kidding.
I enjoyed the chicken jalfrezi, rice and roti. Staff pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely visit again when in town.
I gave it 5 stars
W.
Seafood masala was the best Indian meal ever! Just great dining.
M.
This was by far the best Indian cuisine we have had, the food was in our opinion out of this world and the service was top class. The servings were enough to feed two people and the flavors were beyond our expectations..if you enjoy Indian food then this is definitely a place to visit.
L.
Was really busy the day we went so was a long wait which is ok, we ordered Vegetarian Platter (For Two) wasn't very nice an the Mushroom & Mattar taste different from the last time I ordered it from there. Thanks.
S.
Great food, great service!
Visited this gem last week with family of four. The restaurant was packed for Tuesday evening. Most tables were booked in advance, Unfortunately we didn't book, but we were given a seat and a wait time of 45 mins to an hour. We ordered some starters and drinks which arrived pretty quick and was yummy served on a hot plate.
All our mains and breads were delish. we had great experience at your restaurant, thank you very much for accommodating us.
Special mentions- Bookings and walk-ins were well managed by the kitchen, which you hardly witness in any other Indian restaurant's.
Kudo's to Team Sangam.
J.
We had the most delicious and authentic Indian meal here since we went to India last year. The lamb naan was to die for. 6/5 stars if I could
G.
Very friendly service and delicious naan. The butter chicken didn't taste how you'd expect, more of a tomato taste, the korma was pretty good though. If you want spicy - ask for spicy because the base dishes aren't very much so. There also was a really really long wait for food but they warned in advance which was really cool of them. Overall the friendly service made up for the issues.
A.
2nd time here, and 2nd time I've been blown away the presentation and quality of the food. Everything tastes freshly prepared, and absolutely bursting with flavour. Our group was not disappointed with anything. Plenty of vegetarian dishes, as to be expected. And you can choose the hear level too, from mild to Indian hot. Will definitely be returning for a 3rd visit. Oh, staff can be very busy, but always manage a smile and offer great service.
D.
Went here after a local recommended this as the best curry place in town. Hands down the best Goat I’ve ever had in life. I often stop in Taupo for my goat but this restaurant beat that by a distance. I was later told by the waiter that they’ve just started doing the goat. Loved the ambience and the music. Highly recommend it.
R.
Having experienced Indian cuisine in NZ I can honestly report that the food at this restaurant is the best. Service presentation etc excellent but the GOAT curry and MALAI was the best that I have ever had. Thanks for a memorable occasion
M.
Excellent delicious food I have had after a while . I ordered Madras chicken it was made exactly what I wanted according to my taste and the naan bread was so fluffy and soft . Love the ambience and Excellent service. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend ! The authentic Indian curries 😋 in little Whitianga .
N.
Dinner for 2 on a very rainy winter night: we were warmly greeted, served a delicious meal in a timely manner. I personally enjoy my chicken Tikka masala a little less sweet and the aloo ghobi a bit drier; otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Staff asked us if we enjoyed our meal and we confirmed. The place is cosy to the point of being romantic. Definitely worth coming back!
J.
Dined here tonite and the food was beautiful. We tried the korma and it was subtle Change from the boring repetitive taste I’ve tasted in multiple indiain restaurants. The service was fantastic as well as the owner personally made sure that we were well looked after even though the place was extremely busy. They did really care about each diner on their premises which was pleasing to see. All in all a great diner.
A.
Very nice
Have to try it out
j.
I dine at Indian Restaurants all the time and being a vegetarian, I didn't have many choices in Whitianga other than a few Indian and an Asian Fusion restaurant recommended by a local motel operator. I took his recommendation and tried Sangam and thought of trying my go to palak paneer. I took it as a take away on the first day as there was no table available despite this being a big restaurant which was indicative of its popularity. I was so happy with my meal, that I came back the next day to dine in only to find the place even busier. I decided to still dine in as I knew what will be on offer. It was even tastier the second time around.
I.
Nice place and good Indian Dishes cooked as spicy as you like (from mild too very hot). Very nice staff. Good background music and ambience. Give it a go, you won’t regret!
ps: Excellent Samosa starter, try it!
T.
Sangam was an experience I will not forget easily. We were browsing through the menu when a very pleasent waiter walked outside and recommended one of the chefs special lamb dish. When we walked in, it was a restaurant with the finest Indian decor we’ve visited in a while. The food was so well presented and cooked that it made me forget the best curry houses in England. We were even recommended a local red wine to match the food. It was just an amazing experience overall. Truly delightful in every manner and if we ever visit this part of the world again I won’t think twice about choosing another curry house.
A.
Consistently delicious food
A.
Amazing food packed full of flavour. This place is always pumping. Weather you need an early dinner or part way through the night, Sangam is always full and there's always a great vibe. Great range of dishes to share.
g.
Had a meal here on a beautiful Monday evening and by golly the place was packed. I was recommended a day prior to book a table and the manager was bloody right, you don't get a spot here easy. It was an insanely good restaurant and everything was just right about it. The food, the service the vibe and even the dessert.
A.
I've lived in Singapore and Sydney, both are cities with great indian food but sweet jesus.. this place has the best Indian food I've ever had.
Their dishes are unusual and creative, making best use of local produce. We had mussel curey and Kahari Paneer. So delicious! I cant believe we found this restaurant in a random place in NZ
s.
Best Indian Ever
Dined here on an extremely busy easter weekend and thought about trying the place simply because the place was packed. We waited 15 mins for a table as it was the minimum wait time. There were some locals with us waiting outside and they mentioned that it was worth the wait and it was pretty normal for people to queue up outside sangam on busier days as this is the best indian in town by far. When we eventually got seated, we were greeted and served by the owner who was apologetic about the long wait to simply grab a table but promised us great food. From there on forth, we were very well looked after by a great team constantly checking on us for drinks while we waited for our food. We had the lamb shank special and the prawn curry and within the very first few seconds into our meal, we realised why all those people were queued up outside happily. It was just divine flavours and the lamb shank was super tender and cooked in a curry that was majestic. It is amazing how small towns like Whiti can offer such fantastic Indian food while the bigger cities keep serving average meals. We are in love with Sangam and will dine here every time we visit Whitianga, even if it means waiting for ages for the meal to arrive as this place is every penny worth it.
S.
What a place to enjoy India food outside of India! So me and my wife went for dinner here! She’s from US and I’m from India! We visited Sangam while our visit to North Island! She’s ordered prawn and I ordered Kadhai (wok) chicken, man this was an absolutely great tasting, well balanced spices as you will expect in every kitchen of Indian homes! Even my wife was amazed as she exactly know how Indian food should taste like after she visited India with me!
Great Staff, nice customer service, everything was perfect! Will go to Sangam again on my next visit for sure! And HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED! Complements to the chef!
S.
Great food, great service, .....if I had to look fo improvment, might need some more practice making shooters ... as Baileys should float on the Midori....not mix with it👍
M.
Great atmosphere, comfortable seating, good fast service. The food was excellent. The only negative was the door that kept opening and wouldn't shut properly leaving us cold. Other than that a great place to have a nice meal.
M.
Excellent food and service
Best Indian food we've ever had and they are always happy to accommodate vegan options and staff are super helpful and friendly every time.
Our favourites are the saag aloo and dhal makhini they are always amazing and the naans are able to do vegan naan aswell and they're so good.
Cannot recommend highly enough!!!
D.
Over 10 days of our touring in NZ we got chance to stay in Whitianga. Unfortunately the weather was not that great. Both wife and kids they love Indian food after asking from people in the area everyone suggest Sangam as for the best Indian food. So we went there as this place was really nicely decorated inside and we was welcomed by one of the waiter and greeted with smile as you can tell people love there job.
So we got drinks and food menu. Many options to selects from so we selected our food. I had kingfisher wife had Sav. blanc. and kids had mango Lassi. We got our food served in fresh and hot in time. Music was add on i'll say love those indian music. had lovely evening and will definitely go in future. whenever come back in Future to NZ. Great Indian food, plus great location .
A.
Just delicious food. I had the Fish Masala in savoury sauce, "kiwi hot" so it was spicy but not blow your head off spicy. But the best was the lacha parantha - best ever! And great ser ice.
m.
This Restaurant will have to be the best in Coromadel, let alone Whitianga. We travel all the way from Hahei to try different options in the region and this one takes the cake. The quality of the food is what sets it apart and make its the best of the best. We've tried pretty much everything on their menu over all these years and Sangam never disappoints. We've never had an average meal in Sangam. They've got a beautiful Trailer in Tairua too and our friends from the little town are obsessed by their meals. It's always great!
S.
Very generous with my review rating considering we waited well over an hour for food. Don’t come here hungry. The fish curry was great however one of our group got the fish and chips and it was not fresh at all, disappointing.
s.
Stunning food and ambience. I tried the new addition which was a beef and cracked pepper sizzler and I was gobsmacked to say the least. This is one of the most beautiful Indian diner I’ve been too and the food and service complimented the set up. 10 on 10 for me
M.
Always had a great meal here. Only disappointing thing is we did not receive clean plates after our starters.
Food is a yum very friendly staff.
H.
Dined here on a Monday and was surprised by how busy this place was for a small town whiti and that too on a Monday while the rest of the town was a ghost town. It all made sense though when we had the meal 🥘 as this was the best Indian I had in a long time. I ordered a Karahi Chicken that was to die for and a Pina Colada for my drink which was spot on too. The ambience was great as it was a busy buzy diner with a stunning setup. I could smell the sizzling dessert go past me as well but I was so gutted I didn’t have room for it this time, but I am certainly coming back for more. Well done Sangam👍
K.
