My nephew attended this school and If I get the fortunate opportunity to send my young men here in a decade I certainly will.
They have a "no frills, dig in, work hard and reap reward" attitude, but still manage to focus and cater teaching to each individual student. Pretty impressive that for a state school, the quality of education it provides is far superior to well-established private schools in the Auckland region.
I remember being in awe of how well prepared students from Grammar were back in the day when I first attended uni, I can positively say this superior quality of education still exists to this day.
Thank you for offering such a high standard of education, the fact there is no BYOD program and Grammar is the leading state school and one of the leading schools for both university entrance and scholarship attainment is a prime example of such academic rigour.

I have heard a lot positive about this school. It is arguably one of the best school in Auckland as they encourage studies and sports equally. Tough to get into school unless you live in the neighborhood or your parents or relative studied in the school.

As an ex-student I think the school works well for some personalities (smart/sporty or white people who are rich)and has some really good teachers but it fosters a horrible culture of toxic masculinity, promotes arrogance and the streaming is horrible for the mental health of students, especially naming and shaming what class people are in from bottom to top in front of the entire year group!! How archaic 😡
The schools resources and access to opportunity for those who do attend and thrive in its hyper-competitive environment is fanstastic.

it is great school, i have learnt a lot and i'm a gentelman now so that my paresnts dont dis own mwe anymore. i have been taught to call everyone sir and my sugar daddy is quite fond of this. also mr knights is very cool. i like him because he is bald and ranga. i learnt the term ranga from my bullies which were very kind and considerate. also the toilet smells very nice as there is a lot of air fresheners stand by. 10/10 would kill myself again.

Auckland Grammar School is undoubtedly the most historic and prestigious high school in New Zealand. Despite its gigantic gap between academic abilities and staff treatment of A class students and P class students, it is unquestionable that Auckland Grammar School is above and beyond most secondary schools in New Zealand.
Due to the gap I have mentioned above, the graduates have varied opinions of the school, and act quite differently in public as well. It is also an undeniable fact that the school may often feel like a prison which forces conservative values onto students. However, the experience one gains from Auckland Grammar School is priceless, and he may decide to learn that the hard way by leaving the school before the entirety of their Grammar student life, just like I have.
The other inferior, so-called high schools do not stand a chance against the present and future of New Zealand, that is Auckland Grammar School, for true greatness can only be gained through hardship and effort.

Enough said by others - the good, the bad and the ugly. As a parent, I am glad my son went to this school which is full of opportunities as well as challenges.

Like others I experienced on going intimidation from bullies. So much so that I lived in fear until I was older and stronger. And a sadistic master who would twist his cane under my nose to make me cringe in fear.
On the plus side I did gain a solid education and a respect for tradition. I've never been to a reunion.

a great school, even though its very strict it shapes you to become a disciplined man. all the teachers are down to earth and the education is better than a private school.

19Nov16 Many memories from my time here in the 20th century but none as lasting as those of my first two weeks and being returned to the same class as my school mates after the entrance examination results showed I'd been mis-categorised. Far bigger today in physical class room assets with an associated footprint that has consumed almost all of the school grounds. Still an extraordinary boys grammar school.

A great school that molds young students into young adults. My future has definitely improved through choosing to attend AGS.
