What an awesome experience. My 10 year old thoroughly enjoyed her 2 hour private lesson. Nina (instructor) built an immediate rapport with my girl, making it easy for her to trust Nina. She had an absolute blast and will definitely be back for more. Nina was really encouraging, “kind and enthusiastic and very helpful.” Added bonus that I wasn’t aware of, was the go pro footage sent through after the lesson. Can totally, 100% recommend to others.

Best school ever! Such a fun experience! Nina is such a good teacher, super fun to have around, motivating and always laughing. Best tips and fast progression! Definitely take your lessons with her! Highly recommended.

It's not really a Raglan experience unless you've crossed paths with Raglan Surf School. They really are second to none! I had the best time in a private lesson and learned heaps, instantly improving my surfing. 10/10 would recommend!! Nina is an experienced, kind, skilled, passionate instructor who makes sure you feel safe, confident and that you have so much fun!!

We had a family surf lesson today, first time for me, hubby & daughter to try surfing. We had a blast! Nina is such an enthusiastic instructor, she made us feel very relaxed, and confident. Miss 9 had the best time, rode so many waves and now wants to surf all the time. Thank you Nina & Raglan Surf School!

Our instructor John took two of us for a private lesson. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and explained everything very clearly. Looked after us the whole time, providing feedback about what we did well and what to do for the next wave. Helped us identify the best waves to try catch, and common mistakes. John was very patient, and a great dude to chat to. The whole operation was smooth, they even responded to my evening email at night! Great experience, highly recommended.

We absolutely loved our private surf lesson with Nina and couldn’t recommend her enough! From start to finish the whole process has been a dream. My bestie and I had never surfed before and with Nina’s support we caught nearly every wave we went for (and fell off a fair few 🤣)

Had my first surfing lesson at this school and enjoyed it so much I directly stayed for two more days of surfing! So I had three different instructors who have all been very relaxed, friendly, motivating, positive and able to give the right tips in the right situations! If you want to rent a board, just be aware that if it's not the main season the car trailer is maybe leaving before 5 PM so give them a ring earlier the day to check that:) All in all I had a perfect start of my surfing there and enjoyed the chilled and open-hearted atmosphere a lot! PS: Go to Ngauranui Beach for sunset if you can it's wonderful!

Nice friendly people, great prices! We rented wetsuits and long boards here two days in a row, and Nina was so nice giving us surfing tips and sending us the photos she took for me and my friend. It was such a precious memory for us. 100% recommend!

Always a pleasure to head down to the trailer on a small wave day, and rent out some foamies ! I remember coming there for my first surf lesson a while ago, and two years later John and Nina are still super helpful :) good times!

I've been taking few surf lessons all around New Zealand and I finally found the best one ! Raglan Surf School is a beautiful small surf school running by John and Nina, who are absolutely lovely, fun and professional. There lessons are amazing : not too much blablabla on the sand, but enough even for a nervous learning like me, and heaps of tips and surfing ! They even send me pictures and videos for free !! I highly recommend those guys, their way of teaching is awesome.

We are a family of four ages 7 to 42 pretty much all first timers who decided to do a lesson together. It was such a great experience for us. Nina was amazing. She was able to help and work with each of us which would be challenging as we were quite a mixed group. 10 year old quite keen and pushing his limits, our timid 7 year old and us two older parents. She was very encouraging, smiled the entire time and somehow also managed to take videos as well. Amazing

Highly recommend Raglan Surf School! I did a group lesson with their instructor Nina and a couple other students. Nina was a great teacher and had wonderful, positive attitude. Her enthusiasm for surfing is contagious! It was my first time surfing and I was able to get up on the board after a few attempts. Nina was great about giving me additional pointers and guidance to improve quickly.

Beautiful beach, great waves to learn on, and awesome instructors who know what they are doing. It was my first surfing experience and it was amazing. Our instructor was Nina and she taught us the basics very well. Due to her instructions I was able to catch, stand and ride my very first wave. It was such an amazing experience, that I'm headed back there tomorrow for another surf. The whole crew was very friendly and helpful. Nina, John & Rocky were absolutely awesome and I would highly recommend them & Raglan Surf School. My two teens had lessons while on holidays and from the moment they arrived they were made to feel welcome and at ease. The team made it their priority to get them both up riding and advancing their skills, leaving them motivated and with a real sense of accomplishment. I have spent a long weekend in Raglan and rented a board and a wetsuit. I did not book in advance but it was really easy and no problem to just come up without reservation. They have a selection of spring and winter wetsuits as well as lots of different boards for beginners and a bit more advanced surfers. They are located literally right at the beach so one does not have to carry the board up and down the hill. Just perfect. Nina was very helpful and friendly all three days and pointed out the good surfing spots to me and gave me some advice when I had a question. All in all, I had a great experience (just like the first time I rented a board and wetsuit here) and will come back when I am in Raglan again!

As a family we had an amazing first experience of learning to surf with these guys just over a week ago. John was our instructor who was able to articulate everything with such ease which made it easy for us to understand. He had alot of patience, was there when we needed help and extremely encouraging which we are grateful for. We were so stuffed afterward (mum & dad, not the kids) but equally excited to return to the sea again, which we have in the hopes of becoming alot better. Highly recommend you guys to anyone wishing to learn. 🤙🤙

After I rent a board and surfed two days on my own, I decided to get two days of surf lessons to get a proper basis to build up on in the future. That was a good decision! My Instructor was Nina and she was the best teacher I could imagine. On our first day she adapted to my skills quickly and we got in the water pretty quick after she explained to me the basics about currents and how to get out and how to be save. In the water we surfed and worked on my technique. We laughed a lot and I learned a lot. Not just about how to do it right, also about the mindset. Overall I was pretty happy about my progress on the first day. On the second day we did a little warm up, stretched and went into the water and surfed again and worked on my technique. It was a lot of fun and I recommend everyone if rookie or surfed for a couple of times to get a lesson at this school. You will improve, that’s for sure. I really get hooked on surfing and will always think about where I started to learn it. What spot could be better than Raglan itself? Thank you Nina for your lessons and see you next time at the beach!

Great team, professional, experienced and high value for money. My 9 year old got some good skills, and he and Nina had lots of fun. She remained with him the whole time and the live action videos are a valuable memory. They made it look easy, and safe!

I had a few lessons with this surf school because there are really good : their lessons are safe, long enough and personalised. You never get 2 or 3 exact same talk, it's amazing. Those guys care and you can feel it ! Thank you so much for that, see you soon : SHAKAaaa !!!

I was happy to rent a wetsuits and surfing board when I was at the beach. The staff is really helpful and kind. They have wetsuits of all size as well as surfing boards. Whatever you need for surfing you ask and you'll get it.

Nina was my instructor and she made me feel comfortable and safe. She gave me good advice and I was able to get on the surfboard and stand up very quickly. She is passionate about her profession and enjoys every minutes of it. My experience surfing was enjoyable and this wouldn’t be the same without Nina! Today was my first surfing experience and can say it's amazing. First I had a surfing lesson with Raglan Surfing School. The instructors did a good job and in the end I was able to catch a few waves on my own :) Thanks to Nina I learned some more about surfing. I really could ask everything and she could help me with all my questions. Definitely not the last time that I'm surfing here. I can absolutely suggest it🤙

Placed just by the beach and having great equipment, this was the perfect place for us to rent. The staff and particularly Nina is really helpful and guides you from the pick of the board as where and how you surf on the beach. A strong recommendation from my part for surfers at any skill level! Thanks Nina!

Perfectly located surf rental. Just walk down to the beach, get a (soft)board and enjoy one of the best surf spots... Price is reasonable, staff is nice and laid back.

nina the owner is super nice and super helpful. we had no struggles at all with borrowing wetsuits and surfboards. it was my first time surfing and nina was so kind to tell us where to get the best waves and which board is probably best. i highly recommend anyone to rent there boards there. We just had our very first surfing lesson with Nina at Raglan Surfing School! The Weather and the waves were just great and Nina explained all the basics to us, helped us catching the best waves and took some videos for us! We‘ll definetly do it again and can just recommend this surf school!

I had my first surf lesson yesterday and the instructors explained everything really good, in a slow way so everyone could understand, everything they explained they showed with examples. At the beginning I thought there are too many people for one lesson (19 in total) but it was never a problem. At the beach they had 3 instructors to take time for each person and to show them what they have to do. When I am gonna take my next lesson I will definitely take one at Raglan Surfing School. THEY ARE THE BEST thank you guys again for the epic 3hr lesson.

Went for a surf lesson with Nina. She was so great, really patient, friendly and enthusiastic. We had a really fun time, she is a great coach and I have no hesitation in recommending her and the school.

My 2 daughters learn to surf from Raglan surf school in the 2 hours lesson. I would realy recommend. The instructions was there the whole time in the water. He would pic up what some of the people were doing wrong and encourage them to go again and again. Thank you Guys!!!

Wicked Surf School ! The instructor was awesome : Nina is such a laugh, she brings such good vibes and loves what she is doing. We were pretty nervous before the lesson but she explained everything, nice and slowly and made us trusting ourselves. My boyfriend took surf lessons with Raglan Surf School last Thursday and has been going everyday ever since then and kept hiring boards and wetsuit from Raglan Surf School. So when we went surfing yesterday, he brought me to his 'local' hire station. The team was super friendly and generous, also adviced us on which spot was best for surfing. They knew which board suited me best I'm not an advanced surfer. My boyfreind couldn't recommend enough of this surf school, so I recommended it to my friends who will be taking lessons in the near future.

After my lesson I came back to hire wetsuit and surfboard, and Nina welcome me at the trailer with the best advises and a safety debrief before the surf. Just wanna say thank you to her because she made me feel so confortable and confident, good staff.

Today was our fourth consecutive day of renting kit from these guys. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the boards and wetsuits were all in good condition. Plus the hire place is right on the beach so you don’t have to worry about trekking to the beach carrying boards. Would definitely recommend!

A really amazing surf school right on the beach! Great prices too, you can rent a board and a wet suit during 2 hours just 25$. Also, the staff is really nice and if you're French and have a little trouble understanding English, Nina will be here to help you as she is French herself! :)

I did know how to surf, but I really wanted to give it a go, so I hired a board a the raglan surf school trailer, in from of the beach. Perfect spot, and amazing workers : Nina, the girl working there, gave me the board I needed and advises to stay safe in the water and surf as well ! Really cool staff, I highly recommend this place.

Two family members - one aged 10 and one in his 40s - did a beginner lesson a few days ago and loved it, they've learnt a lot, felt very well supported and in good hands. Would warmly recommend (and would do it again).

I spend one week in Raglan, maybe not the best in term of surf condition but wicked ! Hire my board everyday from the Raglan Surf School rental at the beach : good prices and good equipment, and the best was the staff. The Irish guy and Nina during the week end, those guys are amazing . They made my holidays, thank you, will be back.

Me and my friend hired a board and wetsuit for a view days and it was definetly the right choice to do so. You get high qualitiy equipment and the best thing about it is that you don't have to get the stuff to the beach yourself, because the shop is directly located there. Besides the team was always friendly and helpful. I can just recomment you to get the surfequipment there.

Nina and John are super friendly and efficient staff of the surf school. As a lifeguard, we have a really close relationship since we work next to each other, which enhances our experiences as well as those of the customers and public. Both always greet you with a contagious smile and interact postively with beach-goers.

Really great and friendly staff providing good help to start the surfing experience. What I did not appreciate was that the website gives false information. So it was not a ratio of 1:5 (instructors: learners) but 1:7. Also the mentioned three hours (one on land, two in the water is more like 45minutes on land, 15 minutes driving to the the beach and just 90minutes in the water.

We did a lesson for the whole family (2adults and 2 small children 6&8). The instructors had great tips for us as adults not just about popping up but also about how to read the water and so on; and they were great with the kids. definitely would use them again.

Super Experience. Nina is really nice. You can hire the board directly on the beach at the trailer. And i think with 15$/h for board+wetsuits, it is the best deal you can find in Raglan.

This was my first surf experience (also the first time standing on any type of board) and it was amazing! The Teacher Hemdog was the best and it was worth every penny! I think everyone should do it here! Thanks man for the amazing time!

I just had my first surf lesson ever with Nina and it was awesome! I had a great time!

I spent a month at Raglan surfing school and despite the fact that the place is a trully paradise, I met amazing people from all over the world. Nina and John taught me how to surf and they shared their passion with all the people they could meet on their way. Always smiling, always spreading good vibes around. I learnt a lot from them and I know that Raglan definitely changed me in a good way.

This surfing school is the best! I had never surfed in my entire life, never even stoud on a skateboard, and still I managed to stoud up and actually surf thanks to Hemdog!!! Amazing, we even went back for a second day. I would 1000% recommend this to everyone.

It is first time to surfing. Theory is easy but it takes a little bit more practice. My instructor Himi & Jonh are very friendly. Double & triple wave is bad. Look out & catch the single wave !! I will love this place. Raglan is cozy and calm...

Arrived as a noob surfer, and after ~30 min intensive theory and beach practice we hit the waves, and got surfing. Staff are calm, give clear indtructions, and don’t hesitate to give you a hand/advice to get you surfing in no time.

I rented a board from the Raglan Surfing School today after having done lessons with another company. I am glad that I booked my lessons with the other company! The boards at the Raglan surfing school have certainly seen better days and they don't have many big, wide boards that are great for beginners. After only a few lessons myself I could see gaps in instruction during the part of a lesson that I witnessed and I ended up helping a few of their students learn to control their boards so that they could get out into the waves. Later, when I got a jellyfish sting and sought suggestions on what to do, their staff was extremely unhelpful; it was a passer-by who referred me to the lifeguards for aid. They are conveniently located on the beach and their lessons are probably sufficient if your main aim is to try surfing once and hopefully get standing up. If you want to learn more, I suggest looking elsewhere.

A great experience at Raglan Surf school - Eva had my 12 year old son up surfing early and he loved it. Easy to follow step by step instructions, and a fun afternoon in Raglan

It’s been such a good experience there that we changed our plans and stayed for one more night so we can try what they taught us on ourselves. And Nina is really nice and takes care of everyone.

It was a great experience to start learning surfing. I made it a few times standing on the board haha ;) We had great teachers who offered us a lot of practical training and gave us a hand to catch the wave.

We went to hire some boards the last few days. Every time the guys told us were we should not surf and where the best waves are. The team is always kind courteous and ask you whether you enjoyed the time on the board. They also do a lot of surfing lessons in which we did not participate. Nevertheless what we saw seemed really professionel.

Laid back and funny instructor! Explained and showed everything in a way you could easily learn from. Answered any question we had and helped you out in the ocean if you needed it. If you trying to learn how to surf i would recommend it for sure.

Really recommend to rent your boards from here. Very friendly staff and we were allowed to swap boards during our 2 hour session. Affoardable price and great location since you dont have to carry your boards up and down the big hill.

This was the best surf school, my instructor was Nina. Nina was so incredibly helpful and patient , so skilled at what she did, much better than any instructor I’ve ever had surfing before. She really made my trip in Raglan the best! I can’t wait to come back to New Zealand and see Nina and the surf team next year!
