Bruce runs an old school, good feels camp. Everyone's friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and the facilities are great. The camp shop is basic and has all you need and there's a pub across the road serving cold beer and good pub meals. We'll definitely be back.
J.
Have stayed here 3 times over the years, and every stay has been great. It's perfect for me and my little family to chill away from city life.
Am looking at coming back in a few months, having trouble getting on the website to book in though. May have to bother them with a call :)
M.
Loved our stay. Service was awesome staff were amazing and the camp grounds had a happy atmosphere and best prices. Nothing like being near the ocean to boost and energize my wairua. Will definitely be returning. I would be happy to return by myself even 🙂😉🙂🙂
K.
Awesome place to stay but unfortunately won’t be back. Twice now we have had our gear stolen from outside our cabin. Management had the same answer both times not knowing we were the same people. Very suspect. Will not put up simple signs like lock it or loss it as it is “not a good look” for him. Yes we did take all our valuables from our boats but thief’s always manage to find something! Very disappointing!
T.
First time staying here and will definitely be back. Staff are more than helpful and the facilities are good. Enjoyed the stay and made a couple new friends and looking forward to creating more memories here 👌
R.
Amazing place, beautiful scenery, swimming hole, just a short walk to a sandy swimming beach, handy to several boat ramps, and very well priced.
R.
Bruce and his staff were so friendly and a great help.
Nothing was any trouble. We'll definitely be back to stay with you
J.
Just the best spot on the coast close to the sea and the river for a afternoon swim great prices a and a pub across the road
J.
As kiwi as you would ever get, nothing flash, good managers, vey friendly. Beachfront location. Reasonable rates, Shop and takeaways, pub accross the road, fantastic fishing, will be happily returning
R.
We had an awesome time at tapu camping ground s.
Great views over looking the sea.
Great pub across the road with amazing food. Fish eggs chips with salad.
Id go there again
Russell/Diana.

Great views, clean, quiet. Exallent fishing dogs allowed. Lots of bunny rabbits across the river. Good prices..
L.
If your looking for a traditional fishing focused campsite with no frills then this is the place for you. $10 for unpowered $15 for powered. The kitchen and bathroom facilities need a major facelift and money spending on them. I would gladly pay more and see the improvements made.
T.
We love coming here once sometimes twice a year the only downfall unfortunately is the owner or manager is grumpy and very arrogant (even sounded like he was accusing us once about stealing the pumpkins because our cabin was across from it 😔)
We asked him on one of our visits just in conversation if that was a avacado tree behind his house and he rudely replie “yes and that’s where they will stay!” other then that we love the place and the rest of the staff are awesome.
We just avoid running into him which is a shame, if he is not happy there he really needs to think about moving on from that type of business because his people skills are not cool!
K.
Great little campsite with very friendly staff
B.
It was great you are right by the ocean and even water holes that are really refreshing.
But the beaches aren't sandy they are rocky you do have to be a bit careful when swimming. But the water is really calm it's like swimming at a lake sometime even when it is picking up the waves aren't even bad.
If you have a boat it is all good to take to the camp. We had a great time fishing out there we went to the muscle farms and caught some good size snapper.
S.
Had a great experience only disappointment were the other tenants apparently some are living there permanent and they make sure that visitors are not welcome. Aside from that good hosts
K.
My Aunt and Uncle used to be manage this place but moved, I have a mate who lives next door and we go fishing regularly off the beach and in boats in the mussel farms, I've spent a lot of time here and I really, really enjoyed it.
It's about 500 metres from the beach up a hill and then down into a valley.
Some of the best times in my life happened here so I'm biased in my review, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Te Mata Lodge all the same.
M.
Perfect for a fishing trip. Clasic kiwi Camp Ground.
Its not flashy like a Top 10 but is very clean and well priced. Staff are very friendly. Kitchen, Toilet and shower facilities are basic but very clean. Shower was nice and Hot with plenty of pressure and only 50c.
Have stayed twice now and will definitely be back.
It gets 5 stars because its clean, well priced and friendly.
L.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The kitchen and common area are quite clean. it's also a pet friendly place. I'd love to see ducks wander around my campsite. The only bad thing is the restaurant (or bar, Royal Oak Hotel) in front of campground is very noisy in the night. I almost couldn't sleep until 1200AM.
J.
Really good campsite ended up staying two nights in our tent as it was so nice. Clean toilets and a hot/powerful shower for 50c. You can camp right next to the beach (we chose not to with the recent high tides.) Great location to head into coromandel. The owner and staff particularly the guy on reception are so friendly and really helpful. Lovely spot to watch the sunset and wake up to the sound of waves!
D.
A family friendly motorcamp with reasonable rates.
j.
Good family get away for the ideal family that love too camp right next too the ocean and love too fish this place is recommend for you and your family. Well established family camping grounds
L.
this time of year too hot if not in shady area
E.
This is a great spot to camp for a weekend. We stayed an Easter weekend in our motor-home. We were close to the stream and looked out to the water. The showers have great pressure and are only a 50c piece to run. The bathrooms are basic. A very relaxed camp and just across the road from the pub.
J.
Fantastic beach side location. Great for fishermen. Situated in a small Thames Coast community which a mixture of local residents and weekend visitors.
j.
10nzd for unpowered side ;) 50cents per 5min hot shower which works well even for long hair and conditioner ;) clean. Kitchen could have more stoves as there was just one heating spot working. Checkout whenever before 8pm which i found awesome as it takes away the stress.
Cleaner has been singing while going through the toilets which tells a lot about the vibe of the place. I stayed longer than i've planned. Beach access. Owner is relaxed, friendly and happy to help.
I'd definitely come back here :)
r.
We just paused outside to check out a wheel wobble. It looks pleasant enough, and right next to the water. Hotel opposite for a cold beer. And a creek for the kids.
R.
Good campsite if you're looking for a 1-night stop while travelling along the Coromandel coast. Toilets and showers are quite clean. The owner is friendly and incredibly easy going. The place is rather full of locals (who are friendly), but if you drive to the far back left once inside, you'll find 10-15 unpowered spots along the waterfront. Beautiful sunsets over the sea because you're on the west coast of the peninsula, so don't miss out on that!
C.
Totally awesome five nights at Tapu Motor Camp. Kids had an awesome time. Everyone very friendly and always someone around if help was needed. Cockle spot awesome thanks Gavin. Fishing was the best for grandson with great people willing to help him, gutting fish not my thing, and girls are bring their own fishing gear next time. Thank you Lisa for making it possible, and thank you to everyone
c.
Very quiet and nice place.
A powered campervan is $15 pp. Both powered and unpowered campervan sites are found 10 metres from the river bank.
We were right at the river bank. So quiet and fantastic
Kitchen has stove, oven and micro. Hot and cold water. Fridge and freezer and electric kettle.
Showers have hot and cold water at 50c .
Very friendly staff and a small shop.
Across the road you find a small hotel and a liquor store.
The view is fantastic.
We highly recommend this place
D.
Great place to relax and Bruce makes that way .Just follow the rules and every body's happy.
W.
Every time I come here it's just great love this place
n.
Best spot!!!
Bruce is awesome
And everyone's friendly
Came here a few years back and have never gone anywhere else since for Easter and new years
E.
Good value for money, right on the beach and very close to boat launches. Small kitchenette, and toilet. Separate kitchen and shower facilities available too. Beds were uncomfortable but put mattress on the floor and was all good. Protip: put insect repellent on before going to bed. Got slaughtered by mosquitoes!
T.
Really enjoyed our overnight stay here. We called the day before and were lucky enough to get a cabin. For 2 adults and 2 kids $66.
The caravan we did get was perfect for us. Now it was abit old and you cant expect much but i was higly suprised. Has everything we needed. Stove top, fridge, kitchen utensils,tv and even your own toilet. I will deff be back for another weekend. Friendly staff.
k.
Clean and safe. Right on the Thames Coast. Priced for families - not a posh camp, but everything you need for a happy holiday. Overseas visitors are very well treated.
E.
It's more than camp ground. Lovely locals. Every hidden gems along coastline.
L.

Stayed in Caravan 83. Nice and close to amenities and short walk to beach or pub, depending on what time it is.
Very traditional motor camp.
Everything was clean &tidy.
Will stay again.
M.
Convenient, affordable stay for the family and friends. Everything you need is available on site or close by.
G.
Lots of permanents but beautiful stream running through to the ocean and fresh water swimming hole just around the corner and you have to go to the hotel right across the road which is historic and the best beer GARDEN.
M.
My stay at Tapu camp was good but however the showers and bathrooms were not quit the best and they smelt but I must say the river is worth the swim and deep sea fishing was good
J.
A very nice camp clean units & caravan, there's also a takeaway food truck here also ,it's well worth the stay we absolutely enjoyed every moment will definitely stay here again.
