One of our leading cheesemakers! They make milk from their own herd, Using family Dutch recipes,they encourage you to enjoy tastings before you buy. Do be sure to ask for some of their vintage cheese and very good half cow /half sheep cheese. Amazing amazing amazing make sure you go.

Love their cheese. Vintage gouda is the bomb but look for the other hidden gems, including the blues and the feta. Then there are the Dutch treats and Boska, the best cheese slicers you can get. I always stop here and spend up. It's a gift for cheese lovers.

To all tesm of Mercer Cheese Shop. My heart was melted today. So many years I have been your customer. And today when we visit you after long pandemic break I was so surprised seen price of your greproduct was increased only for ONE DOLLAR. Wish all the best. Stability in unstable world.

Stopped on the way back to Auckland. Wish they had provided info on the cheese making process which we'd be keen to learn. Or the cheese tasting options which we'd love to try before settling on the types of cheese to purchase. Anyway, we bought goat blue vein and vintage gouda. Sweet as.

Lovely little store haven't been to for 10 years or so . Went in looked around was greeted buy a very lovely lady the store was fill of Dutch goods brought back so many memories had a few samples and ordered three lots of cheese a lot better and cheaper then the supermarket full of flava lovely will be going back soon. too good to miss

Wot a quaint little shop , with so much to offer. The guy was super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend you check this place if your a cheese lover , like myself. Will be returning for sure 😁

Small and sweet. The guy was great, he was the cheese maker himself. So many different types and flavours and other food items that go with the cheese too. We got to taste them before picking what we wanted. It looks like it's been renovated recently. A surprisingly busy place!

The Best place for hard cheese, this is a proper cheese shop, large variety of different types of cheeses and maturity (NOT a place for mild, medium or tasty "whatever cheese" 😂😂) also very fair prices.

I have been buying from here for many years and still enjoy the experience and the cheese. Well worth the trip from Auckland.

Every time I can I stop here and spend far too much money. They're just that good. Currently eating their goat supreme and it's easily one of the best goat cheeses I've had. I'm really looking forward to the Cumin Gouda that's in the fridge!

Great place and a fine selection of their own manufacture cheese. The nettle is a stand out for me, and the vintage Gouda has a wonderful robust taste and a lovely crumbling texture.

It's so great to have artisan shops like these. I have been buying chees from this shop for the past 20+ years & have never ever been disappointed. If I had to choose a favorite, & that's not an easy task because all their cheeses are fantastic, it would be Gouder Extra tasty 🤗

Brought some of your walnut Gouda today provided by the cheese shop (riwaka) that was at Nelson market, so over the top happy to find some of my favourite cheese from my favourite shop, thank you Mr Alferink for suppling it to others so that I could find it since I'm nowhere near Auckland

You can't get better service in Auckland even in level 3 recommend highly make the trip pokeno on the way back for ice cream cheers

Have been going to this Wee Cheese shop for approx 35yrs on and off when going to Auckland.Easy to get on/ off expressway, and of course just "LOVELY CHEESE" with good old fashioned service!! May it keep going.!!

I discovered this place 17 years ago and every time I go from Auckland to Hamilton is a stop required, the cheese is fabulous, mature gouda, gruyere, pecorino, walnut cheese, all delicious!!!

Their Cumin cheese is the best!!!!

The best cheese in North Island.

The only times I don't deviate via Mercer Cheese when I'm heading north is if it's outside the opening hours of Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. As you can see I've even memorized them! You can't beat the experience of choosing from lovingly crafted rounds, carefully sliced and wrapped, each a perfection of taste, flavour and texture. Everyone I've introduced to Mercer Cheese is a convert. Drop in and taste for yourself.

Delicious Cheese but cold/rude service I went in today and the lady serving was quite cold despite our bubbly demeanor. We traveled quite far to come to the store so we wanted to buy a lot of different cheeses. We made our first purchase and then after deliberation decided we wanted to buy more. We waited patiently for others to be served and even let a couple go ahead of us to be served. When we went to buy our second purchase we were soon told "more people are coming now" as if to say, we shouldn't sample any more cheeses and finish our purchase - which was quite rude since we had bought a fair amount of cheese, brought a friend along who also spent money and this was another purchase... we ended right there and then however, and replied to her remark "okay, that's it then". I think the lady felt regretful because she then said more than once "oh you could wait on the side"... not quite regretful enough in my view. As a customer, I should be served and not told that others are coming as a way to shoo me out of the store. And why only 1 person working if that's the case? What reassured me that it was a rude encounter as I was still in shock - was that a woman we didn't know, who witnessed all this came to us while we were exiting and informed us that she (a regular customer) will usually call ahead of time to make her order for pick up because "she gets a bit moody" (referring to the lady who works there) - thank goodness she said this because my mother and I were wondering if it was just us or if she really was being rude/cold. Improve your service please, in the past you've always been a pleasant place to visit and I remember the days at the clevdon market with the original owners who were very friendly. Don't let their reputation become sour with a cold, rude worker - as it seems she has a negative reputation growing already!

Perfect stop when on a roadie down south from Auckland. We were spoilt for choice with the variety. Absolutely loved the Maasdam, Cumin Gouda and Walnut Cream!

A bit of a drive from Auckland but definitely worthwhile as a Sunday outing to get some of the most delicious cheese I've ever had. Many varieties available and reasonably priced. Make sure you bring a cheese knife, some crackers and a chopping board so you can find a nice rest spot to have a quick snack on your way home.

Very good selection of cheeses and also Dutch cookies and groceries. The NZ bush cheese with Kawakawa and Horopito and walnut cheese are great.

Always stop here to get some cheese when we are going past? It's a real piece of history in Mercer, remember going there when I was about 7 or 8 and have been addicted ever since. Great section of different cheeses and the proprietors are always so b ice to chat to.

We often call in on our way through to Hamilton and pick up a wedge of the excellent aged cumin cheese. Yum.

Great selection of authentic cheeses. Have been visiting this place since I was a kid, my Dutch grandparents would make a special trip just to obtain some Gouda.

What a great cheese find just off the main state highway at Mercer. I have been wanting to come here for years, and seriously regret not doing so. If you are after authentic and uniquely flavoured gouda, gruyere, maasdam and so much more then this is the place to visit

You can't buy this produce online so if you adore cheese this is a detour must ... just turn off from Highway 1 on the Waikato Express to Roose Rd. Goat, sheep and cow options available with wonderful additions of things like nettle and cumin. The best cheese monger in New Zealand Zealand our opinion. Tasting before purchase encouraged. Some other nice imported treats on sale include Dutch salty licorice and biscuits.

Everything a cheese shop should be. Choosing your cheese can be difficult. All taste excellent.

Good selection of great quality locally made European style cheeses at extremely reasonable prices! Why can't we award 6 stars, because Albert Alferink's little shop, situated as it is in a service area off the Waikato Expressway, deserves them!

Awesome selection of handmade cheeses in all different styles and flavours and Dutch condiments and confectionery products. Opens at 10am and is closed on Sundays.

This is an absolute dont miss place. The cheese is up there with the best you will ever taste and inexpensive. Truffel cream cheese omg. Aged Gouda perfect with rum and honey pickled onions. You get the picture drive out of your way to visit you wont be disappointed.

I've been a customer of Mercer cheese for many years, usually buy Parmesan, Pecorino & Goat supreme, all great cheeses - do a regular bike run down through Puke. Recently tried Wasabi - classic English style, bit like cheshire or wensleydale - superb. Julian, Auckland

Price is not low. But it's all genuine Dutch import and the cheese.......OMG..... the choices are endless. If you get there at a quiet time take the time to try something new!

What to say - YUM! You can taste before you buy, and boy what a selection. My favourite is a toss up between Nettle and Cumin - both Gouda. But they have Havarti, Gruyere and lots of others
