We stayed here in November, a group of 10 plus one other couple. We had a great time. The showers were the best ever, rooms were tidy ad the roast meal was fantastic. Mike is a very interesting host, and seems to only prefer overnight guests. Go with an open mind and you will have a fantastic time

Clean and tidy accommodation, food was very good as well. Couldn't complain about anything! A nice roast for dinner and hot shower was great after a long day biking. As others have mentioned just go with an open mind and don't ask too many questions ;)

I wasn't going to bother posting a review (usually don't) until I saw a really unfair and misleading diatribe in the media about this place.
We stayed here overnight in December. Good clean rooms, and great food. Roast meal was excellent and to my surprise they also had a range of vegan options. The owner is a real character and a great laugh to talk to. Some of the decor in the saloon bar is a piss take and well worth a few pics. We travelled with a Japanese family now based in Nelson and they thought it was brilliant. They had a great time at the shooting gallery- something totally non doable back home for them.
Highly recommended :)

Stayed overnight. Clean room. Nice and warm. Fantastic shower. Mike has done a makeover so grounds looking a lot better. Excellent roast dinner and self service breakfast. Big bonus was long chats with owner across range of topics. Yes. He is different, but interesting! Well worth the time getting to know.

Despite the name, I’be been welcome by very friendly girls. I was the only guest, in a place which really reminds the old west. Funny.
contrary to the wild west, rooms are very clean, food vegan (on my request) and a huge lounge room with hundred of DVD’s, all just for me.
Sleeping in the night was very silent, dark and quiet. The only defect is price, which is too high. But there are no many choices around here.

Awesome views, clean and comfortable accommodation, great showers, great roast dinner and plenty of it. Mike was a great host and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Arrived wet and tired to a very warm welcome and a complimentary hot drink. Spotlessly clean rooms with very comfortable beds.
Roast Dinner and drinks that night in the large dining hall was great. Continental breakfast and we were off to complete the trail.
Staying at Cowboys was probably one of the highlights of the trail.
Fully recommend this accommodation to any cycling the trail.
