Great place to stay! Deb and Terry, the managers, are an amazing couple! Great people, very kind and generous! The pool and spa are super clean. Great views! I recommend it 100%

My partner and I stayed at the Esplanade Apartments for two nights over Easter, and we were really impressed with the whole experience. The booking was easy, the check in was great, in fact we arrived at 10am and our room was ready in half an hour. The apartment was excellent, very spacious, modern and clean and contained everything we needed for our stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone planning to stay in Whitianga.

Whitianga is a fabulous place to stay. The apartment we had was clean, a lovely view of the ferry landing, being in a busy location with lots happening, the Irish bar next door for live music. Not realising when booking this isn’t a fully serviced apartment, beds being made, clean washing , having a washing machine onsite for oneself to do. Paying over $2,000 for one week. Not having instructions to work the DVD we asked for help on the Sunday but could see Terry was going out so said come back & show us the next day. Monday we went exploring out of town returning later that evening 7.30pm the weather had turned cold. I contacted the management whom live onsite. Asking for another blanket & could they show us how to work the DVD please. I went down starts to collect the blanket. Shocked to hear Deborah & Terry talking about our request coming through their apartment door to the foyer this being a really polite message. Deborah’s voice - HOW LOVELY THEY HAVE BEEN OUT ALL DAY!!!! WELL WE HAVE BEEN DOING A 50 HOUR WEEK... 8am TILL 6pm.... I went back to the room seeing a txt on my phone along the line of put your electric blankets on, we did change over to summer bedding. Closed hours 8am till 6pm. We didn’t want them on all night to keep us warm ( not safe ) No follow up on the blanket or DVD the next day we had to instigate. I did txt them back saying I heard their conversation while in the foyer, no apology. This left myself & parents whom I had to explain why we couldn’t get an extra blanket & help with the DVD that night with a bad feeling about the place. We decided to get out of Auckland after a horrific time of lock downs, myself not being able to travel in the past due to being on dialysis awaiting an organ transplant, my parents needing a well deserved break hence deciding to choose a nice place to stay, myself doing well over a 65 hour week & having to bring work away on holiday never complaining in these times of adversity. Hence I write this feedback for people to see how a wonderful stay can turn feelings of a place into bad memories in a second. Maybe they are overworked or just over their job collecting their retirement money as working for someone else. The local people of Whitianga are truly delightful & going the extra mile in the street saying hello to all. Having a holiday is about creating memories & being stress free especially when paying over $2,000 for one weeks accommodation.

We had a great stay in apartment 104 over Christmas. The 2 Bedroom Apartment had incredible views of the surrounding river and vista plus the Ferry, street and Wharf. The location is one of the best in Whitianga! Central to most amenities, and a small drive to large supermarkets although can still be walked to. The rooms and bathrooms were a little on the small size but the main living area and balcony were very spacious and just awesome. If the weather was any hotter there would be a problem as there is a lack of air conditioning or ceiling fans, however there was pedestal fans thank goodness. The Management were very helpful and friendly. We arrived very late but was greeted and shown around by Linda. Thanks so much for a great experience!

What a fantastic place. Thanks Jenny and Kelvin for making our stay even more enjoyable. You were perfect host's with happy faces and warm personalities. We booked 5 apartments for our group of 18 and all the apartments were of a very high standard and very clean. It was also just great sitting on the balcony's with the views. I think it is probably the best location in Whitianga. This was my second stay and I will be back......Cheers...Rex Julian...Perth

Very helpful, pleasant couple caretakers of the apartments. Great central location, within walking distance to shops, restaurants etc 2 bed apartment well equipped and comfortable. Only downside was the laundry area had a very strong damp, drainy smell so had to make sure door was shut at all times, plus you could hear every word spoken by the people above on their balcony which woke us up early and you can hear through the walls the people staying next door, which is a shame as I don’t think I would stay again because of this

We had one night in 3 bedrooms. The service was excellent and the under cover parking sufficient. The rooms were clean and the facilities entirely satisfactory. The only problem was with bed size. While the writer in a single bed in a very small room was fine, the two couples found the beds too narrow for comfort (presumably double size when they are accustomed to at least queen. ) North American visitors especially would find this a problem. Very convenient for town shops and ferry across the harbour.

Lovely modern apartments in the middle of town, close to everything. Nice pool and spa and a wee deck to sit on. The kitchen was well equipped. However there were a few things that could be improved on, mainly there are no air con units and at this time of year, it was stifling and very uncomfortable at night. The beds we had in our unit were uncomfortable to the extreme, as soon as one of you moved the other person nearly bounced off. Apparently talking to other guests , the beds varied enormously, some were really happy, others had horrible beds like ours. There were a few other gripes, such as no mirror in the master bedroom and no wardrobe in the master either, just drawers, whereas the other room had a wardrobe and no drawers. The pillows of which there was only one each, were very flat and it would have been nice to have had another pillow to prop them up. Also there wasn't a bathroom vanity unit to put your toiletries in either. Just minor things , but would have all improved the quality of our stay. But our main issue is the air con, and just about every review I have read about these apartments mention the same thing. Also the quality of the beds needs urgent attention, they are really not good enough for any apartment, let alone a "luxury apartment"

Second time we've stayed here. They are lovely apartments right in town so you can walk to all restaurants. Great views over the inlet. Great hosts. Only slight downside is the bedrooms and bathroom are tiny while the lounge area is huge, and you do get some noise from the bars downstairs. But well worth it.

This hotel is beautifully modern and right across the street from the water, with plenty of restaurants and small shops within walking distance. There's plenty of parking available, including in a secured underground garage. The soaps and shampoos are top quality, the bathrooms have heated tile floors and a heated towel bar. The kitchen has top-end appliances. Lots of windows, comfortable furniture and bedding. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Great place and location, across road from beach, next door to Irish Pub and round the corner from shops! Lovely apartment, very clean and spacious with good view. Check in was fab, the owner giving us a guided tour and very friendly. Will definately be back.

We have stayed in 4 apts and houses on our 9 day trip to NZ. This is the best location for this town. Right on the bay and next to shops. Very clean. Large units and great views with balconies. Also right across the street from a kids park.

The Esplanade Apartments are lovely, nice decor and roomy. Most apartments have wonderful sea views and are very close to everything ... within walking distance. We rate them highly however a word to the cleaning staff about attention to detail. They are paid well. these days, so they need to sharpen up the worth.... just a quick wipe over doesn't work..... put some effort and elbow grease into it.

The owner was very helpful giving us a tour of the apartment and explaining every thing before we stayed there. Very clean, comfortable and quiet, would stay there again, close to eateries and shops. Very welcomed by the owners. parking is included also.

Loved our stay here wish we could have stayed longer, friendly staff, spotless modern room in the perfect location, only minutes from the main street with all the shops, great restaurants right next door and just up the road. Right across from all the activities on the beach, would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Esplanade Apartments provided the perfect location for some of the local sights such as Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. The apartments were modern, comfortable, very clean and the hosts polite and friendly. We had a lovely large balcony which faced the bay. There were however a few issues which kept us from giving a 5 star rating: there was no air conditioner and smoking was permitted on the balcony/deck. The people next to us were smokers and spent a lot of time on their balcony so we kept smelling smoke in our rooms and not having an air con made it very hot at times when we had to close windows and the balcony door. The sound proofing in the apartment was also not good as we could hear all the noises out on the street even with windows and doors closed, this didn’t bother us too much but something to consider if you are a light sleeper. Lastly, no beach towels were provided or available for hire which was disappointing being so close to beaches and having a pool on site.

Great location and fantastic views and the unit was very clean and tidy with new furnishings. Beds were comfortable. Check in and out was very efficient and staff very friendly. Reception area however did smell of stale cigarette smoke. Bathroom showers did not have stoppers under the shower doors and shower floor was not sloped to drain water so water soaked the bathroom floors. Spare bathroom had a distict sewerage smell mostly at night not sure if this came from toilet or drains?? Would have liked to have a vacuum cleaner in the unit and maybe a tumble dryer for those wet towels and togs on rainy days when no sun to dry.Otherwise nothing else lacking. Kids enjoyed the pool area. Good parking available. Great stay and recommended accomodation albeit a bit pricey.

Very nice and tidy two room apartment with great view of the harbour, handy location close to town, beach and ferry, great dinner next door at Grace O'Malleys (I highly recommend the pork ribs!:). Only downside was noise from next door restaurant although that stopped around midnight.

Lovely apartment. Well kitted out, comfortable beds. Great location. Giving 4 not 5 stars because there isn’t air conditioning and if it was very hot I think you’d miss that.

The Esplanade Apartments offers excellent accommodation, is convenient to both oceanside attractions and cityside amenities, and has superb guest services hosts prepared to ensure you have a relaxing stay. We hope to visit the property again very soon!

Great location for beach & town. We did experience some unpleasant strong smells on our first night, we contacted the manager who said he couldn't smell, poured something in the drains and told us there had never been any problems & people had been in the apartment the week before. While we aired the appartment out the smell became very strong in one of the bedrooms & our son couldn't sleep in it, so moved mattress to lounge. Smell gone the next day and didn't return? Appartment was dark, shoe boxie and unappealing even thought we had a waterfront view (balcony was nice though). Strong smell of cigarettes in the reception area.

Wonderful hosts, could not have looked after our group of 15 any better. Everyone loved their rooms & the aspect from each.The location was also great.We were there 3 nights,wished it was more . We will be back!

Newly refurbished. Next to a noisy pub, with live band until 12. No free wifi. Large 3 bed apartment with nice balcony. Very close to beach and shops. Easy parking

Fantastic 4-night stay. Kelvin was extremely helpful with checking in and pointing out local restaurants and other attractions. Highly recommend the Esplanade Apartments . Enjoyed a meal at Grace O'Malley's next door (with discount for Esplanade guests), and several visits to the Harbour House Cafe nearby. A great base for us as we visited Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, Rapaura Water Gardens and Driver Creek Railway at Coromandel. Back each evening to relax at the Esplanade on the deck overlooking the water. Fabulous!

Lovely spacious top floor unit, spectacular view of inlet, everything you needed at hand. Clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here! Leanne

This was the 2nd time we stayed at Esplanade and we loved it. Everything was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable ☺ beautiful views from our bedroom out towards the water . We had to log in again and again with the codes - a bit tedious, if you need the internet a lot. The apartment has many smaller boxes and decor elements, which may not be perfect for toddlers. (Original) Stylisches Appartement in guter Lage. Leider ist das Wifi nicht gratis. Man kann bei der Rezeption aber Voucher mit 2GB Guthaben kaufen! Wir mussten uns mit den Codes immer wiedermal neu einloggen - etwas mühsam, wenn man das Internet viel braucht. Im Apartment sind viele kleinere Kästchen und Decorelemente vorhanden, womit die Unterkunft vielleicht nicht ganz perfekt für Kleinkinder ist.
