Overall a well located affordable option. The rooms were clean and pleasant enough, with no noise issues and a good pressure shower. I would point out the beds were unusually high, I think so luggage could be stored underneath - an issue if you're short/have mobility issues. Also the bathroom was of the frosted glass wall type, which was fine for me as a solo traveller, but those sharing with friends etc may want to assess their comfort. On balance, a good option for those on a budget who are doing things in the city, and I'm likely to return.

Great central location, quiet, good price. The room was a bit aged, but fit for purpose. Unsure if it was an issue with the lifts throughout my stay, but many times I spent much longer than you would expect waiting for one of the lifts to arrive - an issue compounded by Covid restrictions.
E.
Decent place to stay but the internet needs something to be desired. Rooms are small and staff was nice so if you’re on a budget this place might be for you. If you want to use the internet bring an Ethernet cable though!
K.
Our stay was really good. Wee have given this 5 star for points only & only for the beautiful reception lady Natasha
who has kept holding her patience while handling our choice of room stuffs. Even though she was busy in other stuff I guess but still she was giving us her time to fulfil our needs. She's a truly asset to the team.
Well thanks a lot for your patience. 😊👍

The staff at Breakfree went above and beyond to help me pick up goods from a local business while I was in quarantine and unable to leave the premises. They (especially Maryanne) we’re so helpful. I truly appreciate it!
E.
As always loved my stay here any already planing my next visit, all the staff here are lovely especially the guy who works in the bar/restaurant down stairs. Could fault absolutely nothing with this hotel. Even tho there were both storms and the ground decided to shake this time around it was nice to know that the hotel could stand a 9 so felt a lot safer, was a nice surprise to come to my room qnd seen that it had been serviced as I was under the impression that it was a non serviced room so felt a little bad for not leaving the room clean when I went for a walk to come back and seen it serviced. Definitely looking forward to coming back in November time definitely my favourite hotel I’ve ever stayed in
B.
Very much enjoyed my stay. Was not sure about room but ended up really liking the set up. Worked well, comfortable bed and dining area was bonus. Yum food, friendly helpfull staff, great location... I will be coming back here
N.
Some parts of the room were a bit dated, but it was a pleasant stay, especially for the price. Lovely staff and comfy bed. Privacy while using the toilet could be an issue if 2 people are staying in the room 😆
l.
This was my second stay at the Break Free. The staff are excellent and understanding, they help to provide a relaxing environment. The rooms are clean and self contained. I would definitely stay there again.
D.
You'll struggle to find a place to stay that is this cheap but at the same time decent. It's very tidy for the cost and the staff are awesome, very helpful. It's a three star look which you can't help get a five star feel.
c.
Small and noisy room, but ok. the location is amazing, the cleanliness is good. The manager (Chris Donaldson) who made our check in, seems like He doesn't like having guests in the hotel. If you are working with people who come to visit the city and need to stay there for whatever reason, you must have a different way of talking to them, show a smile and not be rude. If you are busy or tired, talk with your boss about it, it is not good for business.

I stayed here for work as so many hotels in Christchurch (as with other cities in NZ) seem to be either being used as Managed Isolation Facilities or for Emergency Accommodation at present. It is central to everything, has parking available just across the road, is clean and tidy and affordable. The room I stayed in would really only be suitable for one person as there is no privacy when toileting or showering. The staff are very pleasant and there are good facilities for meals, etc. A great choice for a short stay in the City.
T.
I took the cheapest room available. The cheapest hotel room I've ever stayed in. While compact and no window, it had everything. Modern industrial styling, bathroom, tea/coffee facilities, iron and hair dryer. Could have used a manual for the control panel by the bed. If I was being picky, I would suggest the builtin bed was too high for small people, elderly or mobility impaired. The food was great in price, quality and quantity. The staff friendly and helpful. They even have limited availability for car parking. Very handy to shops, bus hub, food outlets, the square, museum art gallery. Overall, yes I would definitely come back.
M.
Nice clean and tidy well located establishment. I was disappointed however as it was chosen specifically for the parking availability (having a rental car) only to find out that there was none - website states free parking - no clarification about limited or needing to be booked in advance. I was informed after 2pm check-in that the parking was full from 1pm (how, if check-in is only at 2pm - yes I did request early check-in but that was also declined)
Staff were not particularly moved by my predicament.
For the rest, rooms are small but functional and my stay was comfortable with easy access to where I wanted to be.
Edit: (15/06/2021)
Correction on the "free" parking - this should have read parking (my bad) as I was aware of the charge applicable - what is not stated is that it is "limited" and this was the issue. The attitude exhibited around this point by staff was also not to my liking.
A.
I checked in around 4.30pm and have to say that both the men at the counter were unfriendly, looked tired and were not very helpful. I was told no parking was available, so had to park at a parking lot behind the building, and ended up with a fine as the meter only let me pay $5.60! when I checked out the next day at 11.30am ($80!!!). No advice on how to get myself sorted, get my luggage in up to my room, park or manage the meter!
My room was clean and comfortable and reasonably warm given it was a freezing wet and windy day. The meal I had at dinner, Lamb shack was very tasty and the gentleman behind the bar was really the only friendly face from any of the staff. He seemed a bit rushed off his feet with lots of residents dining in and our guests ended up leaving before they got their coffees to go. Despite the pressure he was pleasant and made up for the grumpy demeanour of other staff. The breakfast was sufficient but again the woman's demeanour at the desk when I checked out was distant and unfriendly! As a result myself and another guest both commented on the reception staff's attitude and have advised our booking agent to make sure we don't get booked there again.
A.
A place I like to return to! Breakfast is very nice, the pods aka rooms are small with no windows but clean and great for the night. He makes sure you know that you have to pay for parking.
E.
The room was modern and fairly comfortable. I had an issue with the bathroom door, it would not keep itself closed and had no latch to secure it closed either inside or out. Not a massive issue as I was staying by myself. I still struggle to understand how hotels can justify limiting wifi access or making guests pay for wifi in 2021 but I used my phone wifi which fixed the issue. Would definitely stay again but would probably go for a room with a window next time as opposed to no window. Easy check in and nice staff. Good location too.
N.
Very nice funky, retro style fit out. Staff are lovely and professional. I chose the flight/accommodation bundle through my airline, was very inexpensive for self contained unit right in the CBD. Full bar/restaurant on site, I had the all you can eat buffet breakfast for $19.50, cheap as chips! Highly Recommend
R.
I booked this room without understanding what sort of room it was. It is definitely only a 1 night stay room for younger people. It has a bed and shower/toilet. Don't go #2's or your partner will leave the room.
A.
On arrival, staff very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are small, but exactly as advertised to be.
Amazingly comfortable bed, awesome shower. On ringing down to room service/ reception, I found everyone very helpful. Would highly recommend anyone looking for comfort an a great price to book in. Look forward to my next stay. Thank you all very much.
F.
Hotel is close to the bus interchange and many shops so it's very convenient. Also has a café/restaurant/bar on its ground floor which is nice to have.
R.
Lovely place very handy to everywhere we had to go. Great being able to park the car so close. Staff really helpful and friendly. Recommend to all.
T.
Good, pretty large, hotel offering tiny, windowless rooms at good value rates. Make no mistake, the rooms are minuscule -- I had just enough space, but everything I needed. For a central place to crash, it's not bad. But my room could have been cleaner and better maintained. Lobby bar and staff all decent and was a comfortable stay for a couple of nights.
R.
Compact, modern, convenient.
Bed was very short. Hurt my ankle on the wood in front of the bed. Linen felt rigid, felt like fabric softener not used to wash it. Did not provide body wash (only soap bar). Boiling kettle was made out of plastic. Air conditioner was hard to set to a moderate temperature and ventilation system wasn't good. TV lacked channel options.
C.
Even the most basic room, is small yet functional. Clean, good cocktails, great food, staff make you feel welcome. I've heard the larger rooms up top are awesome
J.
Modern, clean , cosy and centrally located. 24 hour reception which is convenient for late check ins. Would recommend for a short stay where all you need is a comfortable place to sleep.
P.
Clean. Comfortable, great service, friendly people. Food was good too. Excellent value for money. Will definitely stay here again
G.
OK hotel in the CBD. Clean and modern. The very small room I was in was a bit beaten up and needed redecorated. Very small shower on the corner, not great if you over 6 foot in height and weigh nearly 100kgs. Adequate for an overnight but I won't be rushing back.
L.
I spent 2 nights there. Tiny rooms :D never saw any hotel rooms as small as this. But, there was all you needed: water boiler, some coffee/tea, a clean bathroom. I really enjoyed the blue lights under the bed. Some rooms have a window I guess. So my room had one, but couldn't open it. Anyway there was an air conditioner in the room you could adjust.
The hotel is located very central, so you could reach several places.
I really loved the breakfast: eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms, bread, croissants, cheese, ham, jam, cereals, juices and coffee.
I will be there in 2 weeks and I am looking forward to it.
J.
Friendly service on arrival and received complimentary upgrade to room with a window. Accor Club card is accepted and gives 25% discount on food. Bed is very comfortable and room is quiet and very clean. Parking is $15 per day.
S.
The rooms are an efficient use of space. At first the bathroom appears very small but in the end it's all the space you need. The bed is raised allowing room underneath to store your luggage. The mood lighting is a neat feature, I don't see it getting used much but a nice touch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet has a decent selection. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.
s.
Must book king room with window. King room quite spacious. Bed comfortable. Rooms quiet. Unusual bathroom (pod style) but good shower. Sensational location. Unbeatable
Great hotel for budget conscious. Nice communal area . Happy hour 5pm -7pm. Convivial atmosphere.
A.
Paid parking, no kitchen facility, limited Internet. But they have great breakfast, clean room and comfortable bed. Also unique shower. Will give 5 stars if free parking unlimited Internet.
L.
Lovely place, great price, cute small room with everything you need, clean. Just be sure if you book late checkout that they have noted that as organising late checkout, putting 'do not disturb' sign on the door yet being disturbed by housekeeping because they weren't told kind of defeats the purpose of the planned sleep in.
L.
Stayed here for work. The staff are super friendly and the conference room is a great size.
Depending on the type of room you book will determine your rating of this hotel, all I would suggest is don’t go cheap cause this place is already cheap.
If you’re on a budget and you don’t mind getting a room with no window and where your bathroom and toilet is near your bed then do it.
However a few extra dollars will get you a room with a separate washing space. Which I would assume, will make your stay a whole lot better.
L.
All staff friendly and helpful. Loved the venue as a whole. Bed comfortable, clean room, mine had kettle and sachet supplies, hair dryer and iron. Close to centre of city.
Quiet too. Gaps around blind at window let the morning light in.
I would choose this hotel again.
D.
Fabulous funky hotel Keith at the bar is awesome and the chef does a mighty fine salmon meal. We will definitely be staying here again. It is so close to wherever you need to go and the bus service is fantastic
M.
If your looking for basic, cheap & cheerful than this is it. We rented a "family room", which would have been great if our group was a family. We were a group of friends and the room was akward to say the least. The bunk beds were child size and made one embrace being a pancake for getting in and out. I smacked my head getting out of it. The toilet/shower is a strange concept. The unit is a pod-type structure that has a glass sliding door that is mostly frosted. The whole thing is located in the main room. I found using it, gave me a feeling of being on display. Our windows & desks looked into an office building and a great view of somone's desk. Our neighbour was kindly gone for the weekend. TV's were in strange spots. In the bunk room, I'm not sure where one would watch from. I gave 3 stars because the staff was welcoming, it was clean, and there was parking. Suppose this place is a bit like a step up from a backpacker's.
B.
Firstly let's talk cost I spent 5 nights in a Inner Urban Double room for $355 which is great value! The hotel has so many services to use. Theres a gym, bar and restaurant, with good food might I add. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. I didnt get a chance to have breakfast here as I always left too early. Now the room. The was good, very clean, and new. The only down sides are you dont really get a view as your close to some offices and the room wasnt very large but you dont go to a hotel to spend all day in your room for sleeping and everything else you need it was perfect so it's not a complaint it's just to make you aware. The hotel is the perfect location if you want to do some exploring your right next to the tram line and the inner city bus routes. There are so many restaurants in close proximity to try so get out there and try them. So I recommend staying here 5 stars just for value, location and the amazing staff.
W.
Very central, stylish and cool but tiny basic rooms. Great for a short stay, not so much for a holiday.
S.
Best location. Slightly slow check in but worth it for how cheap the rooms are but have everything you need and more. even the interior rooms with no view are very small, but the way the rooms are designed are great with nothing missing out (fridge, kettle, hairdryer, ironing board, phone). laundry facilities are great. and the restaurant downstairs is slightly pricey but fantastic service and food is unreal-so it's worth it! Staff are also very friendly and want to help out where they can
M.
Decent hotel. Room was clean and furnishings looked close to new. Room was smaller than what I usually tend to stay in with the bathroom being incredibly small. Good location though as close walking distance to the heart of the city and close to restaurants.
T.
Came on a work trip and it was the most affordable place to stay in the city so I was a bit worried that it may not be super nice but I was super happy. Crisp, clean, spacious room with a private little bathroom. Lots of light in the room. Helpful staff and the location is brilliant and will only improve as the rebuild continues and more amenities open in the area. Also the package I had included parking and breakfast so it was a nice easy visit indeed!
S.
Location excellent but room was very small, no windows or ventilation. We were told that there were bigger rooms at extra cost. So if you are prepared to be squeezed like sardines in a can for budget purposes then fine! Lobby very comfortable with excellent bar/cafe for a room escape! However the corridors and room had a horrendous plastic smell! Wouldn't stay again.
A.
Fantastic. More a sleeping pod than an apartment, but ideal for us. Clean, neat, convenient. (mood lighting in the bathroom ... !). If you're over 6 foot, you might find the bed a bit limiting. Restaurant downstairs is brilliant. Great full buffet breakfast. Nice and handy to almost everything in New Christchurch.
T.
Great room small but has everything you need.Super comfy bed.Great breakfast and a fantastic price
D.
Cheap and friendly hotel. Rooms are small in size but amazingly set out and modern. Not recommended for those that like lots of space, but perfect for anyone needing a comfortable sleep close to the city for a good price.
N.
Clean and cosy. Great value for price.
Would have given 5 stars for the room if there was a little more storage space for personal items like mobile phones, wallets, watch, keys, vanity items, etc.
Perhaps a little more shelving space above the table with the kettle, and maybe one more stool?
C.
Central position. Pods are VERY compact so can't spread out much or relax in the room. Breakfast reasonably priced. Parking high and not secure as barrier was broken. Good value I think compared to a central hotel with normal size rooms.
B.
Excellent centre-city hotel for all basic amenities. The rooms are reliably comfortable and clean. The staff are always cheerful and happy to assist.
j.
Good rooms for the price. No windows are a bit inconvenient but you get used to it. It is very small but again not a major issue. Unfortunately it's very easy to over sleep in those rooms due to lack of natural light. Smart TV is very useful and the shower is amazing...can go insanely hot.
B.
Staying in the city for a couple of nights and found this hotel at a discounted rate. Location is extremely central, staff have been excellent but the room is extremely small. In saying that, you know what you are getting into before you book. Room is very clean and has been more than fine for myself and my partner.
K.
Fantastic place to stay highly highly recommend, their rooms are always very clean and neat.
The beds are set higher than normal beds but that is because under the bed there is a huge space for suitcases and bags so you don't have to step around them and makes it easier.
The shower and toilet are very small but are very good, and they have cool lighting options with different colors which very nice as it means you can just have those on instead of just normal nights mood lighting at its finest.
Staff are very good nice and always there to help.
We use this hotel alot and will continue to keep going it's great.
Highly recommend this hotel and it's pretty cheap too so that makes it easier you 😊
L.
Flew into Christchurch at around midnight and the staff on duty were just lovely. At that time of night I was grumpy and ready to sleep but their attitudes and welcoming energy definitely turned my mood a bit. A well sized room, reasonable price and everything that I might have needed was ready in the room - tea, hairdryer, abundance of towels and a super comfy bed. Would definitely stay here again if I needed to!
P.
1.Centrally located
2. Room sizes are small but good for the price
3. Rooms are smartly equipped
4. If you are having too much of luggage
Say BIG NO for this place.
5. If you are vegetarian then don't opt for breakfast.
6. Full day parking is available for 15$
L.
Quick weekend in Christchurch. Wouldn't normally book a BreakFree property, but Novotel over $240/night and BreakFree $99/night. No brainer when as a Platinum you get breakfast included.
Pleasantly surprised actually. Room and bed very comfortable. Staff very friendly and recognised as a Platinum in the form of a card, water bottle and local chocolate. Not major, but still nice.
Small breakfast buffet, but perfectly adequate.
Bar, restaurant and room service available in the evenings. Menu seems well priced.
Great down-town location too.
Only two negatives - shower water pressure was awful (maybe because I was on the top floor?) and the amount of pigeon excrement on the window sills was disgusting. Almost a public health hazard - surely this can be kept under control? It's unsightly and unhealthy.
Still, despite this I would certainly stay again.
E.
Very modern and comfortable accommodations! The downtown location is fantastic, right in the heart of things making everything we wanted to do an easy walk. We had an Inner Urban Queen, and I found it to be plenty of space despite what other reviews had warned. The bathroom in the room (there is a smoked glass divider, but it's not really a separate room like we're used to) is definitely different, but didn't present any issue for my wife and I. Lobby had plenty of space, and breakfast was generally good, though the hot selections were a bit lacking. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely book here again!
P.
Great hotel with small pod like rooms which are priced around $100 per night which is all you would want to pay. I have stayed here often since it first opened... They do not have a special rate for revisiting guests.... and the parking is am absolute nightmare... and costs!! Which it should not.. given the amount of unused land due the earthquake ...
M.
Great hotel. Close to everything in the city and the staff were very friendly. Stayed in one of their studio rooms. Compact space but the hotel was inexpensive, and parking cost is fine. Defintley worth staying here if you're in town for a night or two.
C.
Stayed over long weekend clean close to all the fun and food our room was small and con packed but was still great. Breakfast was good value as I don't normally have. Thanks for a great stay
R.
We just needed a room to overnight before catching a flight the next day. We booked a cheap room that ended up being no bigger than a cruise line cabin but it suited our purpose. Location was excellent and very handy to the bus terminal. The breakfast and dinner was more than adequate. We'd certainly stay again.
C.
Good location, close to many shops and restaurants. Found parking just off the street, since it's free after hours until 9 am the next morning. The room was okay, looked spacious because it had so many mirrors, however it could do slightly bigger. Shower had good water pressure and you could also choose the colour of the lights depending on your mood. My partner who is 6" 1' had his legs hung out of the bed, bigger bed would be nicer.
J.
We were surprised ...Yup the room was really small .but mattress was good sheets good quality aircon worked and the bathroom was clean , stocked well and shower had good pressure. The cleaner staff were happy and actually smiled !the surprises continued downstairs with a proper chef in kitchen comfortable wait area pity the bulk standard coffee was perculated but when we stumped up for a latte the excellent buffet breakfast was great .the dinner menu was good enough to keep you in house . Thumbs up .the young energetic staff were a credit .
M.
Location is great and near city centre. Reception is 24-hour and staff are friendly and helpful. However room is quite small for 2 people and cheap fare is bundled with no room service and room with no windows. Adequate room facilities available. Overall, a good stay although I wouldn't recommend for a stay longer than 2 nights.
A.
Comfortable budget accommodation, centrally located in the CBD. Staff were friendly and pleasant, bar/cafe downstairs is also pretty good. The rooms are alright, though very small. The bathrooms in the rooms we stayed in were very odd. A space saving design which is only just functional. For budget accommodation though it's not bad.
A.
Great central place to stay. Good clean rooms. Plus bar and Cafe on site. Good priced buffet breakfast available.
S.
A very interesting take on what a hotel should be. Good value for the price.
Modern furnishings and mood lighting make a great impact. Excellent location.
The bathroom *inside* your bedroom is a bit odd. If the space for the toilet wasn't so small, I'd have given 5 stars.
A.
I am a big fan of this hotel, my employer often puts me here. A good place if you need a cheap, no nonsense place to stay. The location is close to a huge array of places to eat, and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.
E.
Breakfast Buffett NZ$19 Continental breakfast NZ$15 not bad not great. Pretty busy around 8am
After staying here for one night
I have mixed feelings about this boutique hotel. We paid $186 New Zealand for a very small room that had no space for our bags. It also had no window. The hot water was always hot and ready to go.Even though it was small the room was still modern. The air conditioning was on its lowest setting but really did not offer a cooling outcome. When I had a rest during the day I had to sleep on top of the bed because it was too hot. It was certainly located in a very central area of Cross Church and provided easy access to many local attractions.
H.
Pros
1) Good and safe hotel, access card swipe required to use the lift and get into rooms.
2) Convenient location, bus interchange and supermarkets are within walking distance
3) Practical rooms ideal for short stays
4) Very comfy bed!
5) Ideal for 1-2 travelers on a low to medium budget who may not want to stay at a hostel
6) Ideal for travelers who only use the room to eat, shower and sleep.
7) Ideal for solo female travelers, who may want a private room and may not want to stay at an hostel.
8) Free Wi-Fi 2GB for unlimited devices for every 24 hours, this was more than enough for me to plan/confirm next day's activities.
Cons
1) Not an ideal hotel for anyone who needs space, windows or space for their large luggage.
2) Not an ideal hotel for anyone who may want to stay in to enjoy hotel facilities, luxuries, services etc.
3) Breakfast is expensive if you are on a budget. Not a big deal if you head out to cafes to have your breakfast or buy food from supermarkets.
I booked an Inner Double room for 3 nights, luckily my room had a small window. Very comfortable bed, decent toilet and shower. Quick and efficient customer service at the receptionist. Overall great stay, I would stay here again if I am in Christchurch!
D.
Definitely stay here again. Rather surprised by some of the less positive reviews out there. Good front desk service. A small but very well designed room. No noise or other issues. Good location.
L.
Pod people, pod people was all that went through my head.
The beds are comfy, the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are quiet and clean.
They are perfect for a night and have 24/7 desk so are available to check in any time.
They aren't hiding what they are and are very clear there will be no windows in your room.
D.
Clean room, but ultra compact in size. I am not sure about the value for money as the room was paid for by the airline due to a delayed flight, good location in the heart of town. The toilet in the room has one of the strongest flushers that I have ever seen (it's almost aeroplane grade) extra star for this.. The night porter Teddy is extremely difficult to deal with (minus a star for this). If you're looking for a nice budget hotel and you don't need a big room this might be your place!
M.
For the price, this place is hard to beat. But it depends on what you're looking for. It ticks all of the boxes for me personally, but I could see how it might not for some. The rooms are rather small. It was cozy for my boyfriend and I, but would be cramped for families, or people who do not want to be in close quarters. There is some lighting system that is over the top, which was fine for me, but it could be hard to figure out when you're just trying to operate lights in the room. The bathroom space is also pretty small. Feels like being on a ship. Wifi is only free up to a certain amount of data usage a day. Then you have to pay! However, the location is great, and the price is reasonable.
M.
I like the concept of the rooms however there are some big issues.
I am 190 cm tall and the bed was not long enough for me, so I had to sleep diagonally. Same issue with the shower, the shower head was too low.
Also once as I was showering the temperature of the water kept going between normal temperature and scolding hot. So hot that it actually hurt to stand under it.
T.
A bustling hotel just by the heart of Christchurch. The rooms are quite small but work well. The reception staff were the most helpful I have ever come across. They worked really hard to find a room for us when the weather wrecked our travel plans and did it all with a smile.
T.
Reception service is really fast and helpful. Fast check in.
The room had a good size, king size bed, everything was super clean and smelling good. The shower area is not so big but fits 2 people at the same time for those who like to share the shower time with a beloved one (like me).
They have tea/coffee stuff in the room so you can suit yourself.
They charge a 5 dollar fee if order something from the room service.
We ordered Indian butter chicken and it was delicious but a little expensive.
The hostel is really good and I would be there again if I return to Christchurch.
R.
This place was great to stay at, very accommodating and clean. The only thing that could have been nicer was if my room was a little bit bigger. But even with the smaller size I had a good shower, and space to put down everything I needed.
S.
Excellent place to stay. Outstanding friendly service from all of the staff. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a clean tidy and full service stopover. Great food too!
J.
great hotel we stayed 3 nights 2 in king with windows I king without, rooms are small but not claustrophobic, beds are superbly comfortable, in room facilities are excellent, clean & compact. atmosphere of hotel including reception, bar lounge & dining area are very welcoming, relaxing but lively, staff were friendly, professional & helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. right in the city centre.
C.
Review update: stayed another night this time in the queen room. $30 more/night. Room/bed size much better. Would recommend this option for taller people or those accustomed to more space.
Tiny room and the double bed can be a bit squishy if you're used to a queen. Great price and location though. Clean and tidy too.
R.
The rooms are small, but for the price you get everything you need. It's really modern and clean as well as being right in the city centre. Have stayed here 3 times now and will stay again if the price is the same. Friendly staff.
If you want a hotel with large rooms and big windows this is not for you (at least not the cheaper rooms).
J.
This is a cheap mini hotel room with bistro diner on Cassel street. It was a novel place for a short stay. Very clean and tidy. Not much noise from the shopping and cars below. Lots of Lime scooters available and very handy for shopping trip to town.
D.
Helpful staff. Cheap accommodation and all you can eat breakfast for $10 extra. I love the neon lighting and how it caters for all ages. My favorite part is the built in bathroom in the rooms, they are simple but amazing!! Highly recommend this place over a regular motel/hotel
T.
Clean and modern rooms. Bed is big and comfortable with special lights and alarm system. Bench space and TV. Bathroom is very small. Hotel has large reception area with lots of seating and a bar/cafe. Colourful and sleek decor.
T.
Clean, warm and comfortable. The spacing is quite small, the bed length wasn't an issue for us 5'5 people but it would be a struggle to sleep for anyone 6'😅. Overall it was a good place to stay as it's super near to everything!!
T.
Our stay was great. The room was comfortable and the staff was lovely. Enjoyed every day of our stay and would love to come back.
Can totally recommend the hotel.
Parking is a bit expensive though and there is no chance I avoid that.
R.
Excellent location, modern facilities, great value for money. Our room was small but comfortable. Self check-in works great. Room has RGB mood lights and is very modern. The hotel location couldn't be better, since we didn't have a car. Close to bus interchange station and almost every attraction in Chch, including great cafes and restaurants.

S.
Best location. Slightly slow check in but worth it for how cheap the rooms are but have everything you need and more. even the interior rooms with no view are very small, but the way the rooms are designed are great with nothing missing out …
S.
The rooms are an efficient use of space. At first the bathroom appears very small but in the end it's all the space you need. The bed is raised allowing room underneath to store your luggage. The mood lighting is a neat feature, I don't see …
A.
What a puzzling bizarre place.... Not bad, just different.
I haven't stayed in a place like this since Tokyo.
Every space used efficiently for the bed, draws, bathroom even.
Nice cafe, friendly people.
M.
Great hotel. Close to everything in the city and the staff were very friendly. Stayed in one of their studio rooms. Compact space but the hotel was inexpensive, and parking cost is fine. Defintley worth staying here if you're in town for a night or two.
A.
I am a big fan of this hotel, my employer often puts me here. A good place if you need a cheap, no nonsense place to stay. The location is close to a huge array of places to eat, and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.
A.
Friendly check in. Clean light room. Good bed. A few more movies channels would be great - but that's a minor detail.
r.
The hotel is nicely set out but not sure about the rooms. The Cafe on-site is moderately priced
T.
Our stay was great. The room was comfortable and the staff was lovely. Enjoyed every day of our stay and would love to come back.
Can totally recommend the hotel. …
C.
Very happy with our stay here, we booked an urban inner room with breakfast. It was advertised as compact and cozy on the listing so do not be shocked. It is what it says it is, feels like sleeping in a space ship!
We loved it, the ensuite was compact but well structured so still enough room, shower was great, lovely and powerful and hot. The bed could be bigger. Definitely a large single and not a double, so if you aren't a big cuddler, get a larger room with a bigger bed!
The breakfast in the mornings were great! Scrambled eggs a bit plain and too much milk added and lacking flavour but the rest was lovely. The coffee is just filter so may be worth sticking to tea or purchase a proper coffee from the cafe, maybe the hotel can include coffees from the cafe at breakfast for guests? Or at least discount them. The bar is the cheapest place to drink in town ( still shockingly expensive) but if you want a $1 off your pint between 5-7 then there's happy hour!
P.
Tidy little room, modern design with corner bathroom and shower. Our bathroom had a glass wall separatation from the bedroom - trendy, but perhaps not ideal for those wanting complete privacy. Great cafe and bar downstairs which serves buffet breakfast.
P.
The location was good 30 metres from the main shopping street, the room was small with a new toilet shower pod which i did not like, with a lack of any privacy if your sharing with someone. Parking was an issue cost $15 but gates were not working creating an inconvenience when trying to check in and out.
G.
Excellent and very friendly service. Great location. Decor was fun and modern, although having the bathroom in the room with a clouded glass screen and porno lighting was rather amusing.
Also the lean towards technology and remote access through phone apps with the TV for WiFi etc is flawed. We couldn't access anything via the TV (it just refused to work for us on android) So whilst there were many apps on there, we could only get about 4 TV channels and that was it. We were only there 1 night so it wasn't a big deal, but if the facility is there, it would be nice to be able to use it!
Reception organised our airport shuttle for 3:30 am which was excellent. A real load off our minds. (not a free shuttle but only cost about $30 for 2 of us)
g.
Great location. Great room price to value. Great customer service as well as room service. Very solid restaurant menu and food quality. The room and bathroom were very modern looking with very adequate space. Compared to the IBIS (Auckland... worst stay of my life time... and I am OLD!) and YHA (Rotorua.. very good for the younger frugal generation) I stayed, the Breakfree on Cashel was a palace!
L.
Is an ok hotel. Room is just right. Not too sure about the colored lights under the bed but was an ok room
L.
BreakFree on Cashel is a comfortable and modern hotel located in central Christchurch and a walkable distance to main shopping I stayed in a inner urban double (windowless). Room was clean and tidy with nice artwork but very small! Probably 4m x 2m. The bed was wall to wall. Having said that they made good use of that tiny space with a nice little ensuite shower/toilet area in the corner, a makeshift stand for a wardrobe, small bar fridge, tea and coffee, iron and hair dryer. Staff were very helpful and polite. Room service was ok. There is a bar area on the ground floor. The gym is basic. There are also conference facilities. They have an app which you can download to order room service but this didn't work! Had to call reception and reorder. Otherwise experience was good for the price. Just be sure your room has the space you need!
T.
Location is fantastic, right in the middle of town by H&M. It's a little noisy on the lower floors, but they're also super affordable. The beds are extremely comfy!! You can either pay for parking next to the building, or there is a huge parking building near by if you don't mind a short walk.
C.
I should start by saying that I did not choose to stay at BreakFree, but rather my company placed me there. I appreciate that BreakFree is a budget hotel in the middle of the Christchurch Central Business District. It is priced very reasonably. I am giving it 3 stars for two reasons.
1) The cold, indifferent attitude of the check in staff. If you book online and don't have a credit card, or have one that does not allow open charges, they will demand $200 in cash from you before they will allow you to check-in. On my last visit several of us arrived at noon and were coldly advised that our rooms were not ready. I eventually asked when we could expect them to be ready and was informed, no later than two.
2) I know the rooms are small, that is the budget aspect, but the last room I was in was the smallest possible. It did not even have a hard flat surface useable to eat dinner at. I ended up sliding the stool to the edge of the bed and ate off the bed.
B.
Clean modern hotel. Double rooms extremely small but cover off what you need. We booked through Expedia and somehow was given the wrong room type and due to hotel being fully booked were forced to stay in tiny room as opposed to the queen we booked (3 times the size and apparently same cost :/). Hotel did its best to compensate with drink vouchers and breakfast. Just disappointing.
Bar serves great large drinks and an ok breakfast. Would recommend as staff were attentive and friendly and a very central location. Parking however is another additional cost of $15 a day.
L.
Good place to stay but the bathrooms were so weird. Felt exposed and cramped while trying to have a shower. Made the room look silly. But apart from that, good place to be. Right in the middle of town.
S.
Staff are very helpful and welcoming. Rooms are tiny, $15 to park on a gravel pit is a bit ordinary. Location is great and bar service as was the food. If like Indian food go around the corner from the hotel, have the best authentic In
T.
I very much enjoyed my stay here. Stayed in one of the small, but very well set out, rooms and the bed was very comfortable. There was a few gadgets and gizmos around the room which I didn't use but I could see the practicality of them (lights that slowly get brighter as your alarm goes off etc). I had the breakfast option addef to my room and thought it was worth the extra fee dollars a night.
J.
Very nice and comfortable hotel with a great value for the money. The rooms are small, but very well designed. Breakfast offers eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, Müsli, Rösti, toast, fruits and more. The taste is decent. The location is fantastic. I can recommend this hotel!
R.
Bed comfy. Bit freaky having a room with no windows. Great shower and nice and central to town
I.
Value for money, rooms could have been cleaner. I found the room we were in similar to a prison cell. Very tight fit, not suitable for extended stay if you get stuck in your room, no outside window, but very quiet inside. Modern and very close to central city attractions, beware, you have to pay extra for parking and they will tell you one price, charge you another, then add on a surcharge for credit cards.
A.
Had buffet breakfast here. Nice atmosphere inside but would increase the lighting over the food area slightly.. saw a few older people struggle to read what the toast spreads were. Great food, extensive range available, even for a breakfast buffet: different kinds of cereals, fresh fruits, juices, filtered coffee and different teas, pastries, yoghurts, different kinds of toast with all kinds of spreads, cold cuts and cheese, fresh grapes, and of course hot food: scrambled eggs, button mushrooms, baked beans, fresh tomatoes, bacon and cocktail sausages. Has something for everyone - vegetarian friendly options available. Very impressed with the staff and how attentive they were to checking the food levels and bringing out more food in a timely manner. Will definitely be returning, thanks!
R.
Nice clean room. For the price you pay, it's worth it. $15 extra for parking over night. Personally I felt claustrophobic..
W.
Great hotel and a soft bed. Bathroom is okay, maybe a little bit tiny. Overall very clean, fast internet the 2 GB you get for free vanish some how very quick. Location is great, don’t forget to go to OGB for food!
S.
Really cool pod rooms with changing light colours! The bathroom is very small and not for anyone claustrophobic. I would say suited to travellers and business stays.
A.
What a puzzling bizarre place.... Not bad, just different.
I haven't stayed in a place like this since Tokyo.
Every space used efficiently for the bed, draws, bathroom even. …
C.
Comfy rooms with extra soft bed in which you can sink at the end of the day! Lobby offers sofas to linger (which is not quite possible in the little rooms) or take a beer or other drink at the 165 Bar. Restaurant is good and breakfast offers a variety of food. Don't forget to ask for a voucher if no space is available in the parking lot, you can park on the street but they don't readily tell you 😉 also ask for a breakfast voucher, you get a discount on first morning
A.
As advertised, there are a number of internal rooms, which we were in. These are small and nothing wrong with them if you are not going to spend much time in them - which we weren't.
However, I lost count of the number of times I banged my legs walking round the end of the bed. Metal rails that stick out further than the mattress :(
D.
Good hotel. Pricing is great and it is very central to the city. The rooms are really cool and compact. I was there on business so it was just a place to sleep and was perfect. Breakfast was good and filling. My biggest gripe was being limited to just 500mb wifi per day which is not really enough. Otherwise very good.
G.
I stayed at Breakfree on Cashel in an inner queen room during a weekend in Feb 2019.
The check in was a little tiresome, as there were long lines (the hotel hosts large groups), but I appreciated the fact that the receptionist granted my request for a high floor.
The hotel location is excellent, although there is not much to see in Christchurch. This is my second stay in Christchurch after the earthquake, and although I see progress being made, I find Christchurch boring, with the downtown completely deserted during a summer weekend evening. But I digress.
The room was tiny, with a double bed against the wall, but very well designed, modern, clean and comfortable. I don't see 2 people being able to use it, but it was fine for me alone.
The bathroom, which is basically a partition in the room, was equally tiny, modern, clean.
Not having windows, the room was very quiet, and I was especially grateful for that when hearing other guests complaining about the noise from the Spark festival fireworks.
I booked the hotel almost 6 months in advance and got the room for an excellent price (less than $60 USD), which makes it a great value for Christchurch.
Parking is limited and expensive, but since I didn't have a car, this doesn't impact my rating.
E.
Seemed to be targeted at a younger, "hip" crowd. The ambiance is cool but rooms are small and the technology in them (TVs, light controls, radio) didn't seem to function very well. Food available in the restaurant was good but expensive. Tiny gym area available for use if you're into that kind of thing.
C.
It was a nice compact hotel located in good location. Close to cathedral place and other shopping joints. Our alarm system was faulty, but it was fixed the next day after speaking to the staff. Overall it was a pretty good stay.
L.
We booked the urban double and it was great fun. Its like a pod room just with the double bed and compact shower area. Good price and the bed was so so comfortable! Definitely will be staying there again.
D.
Great value comfortable hotel right at the city centre. Rooms are compact but have everything that is needed, we had the room upgrade and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and parking was convenient.
T.
Room exceeded my expectations, although the bathroom area is small, it’s set out so unique and I personally love it, lighting options are possibly the coolest thing ever and a girl loves a mirror or three
O.
Tough to rate this one. You get what you pay for I guess. The rooms feel cheap and the sound insulation is not the greatest as you can hear everything going outside in the halls. The bathroom also is very reminiscent of an airplane bathroom and not exactly relaxing but it gets the job done. There is happy hour downstairs however I was charged 2 different prices for the same item in 2 consecutive days which is a huge putoff and caused me to refuse to order anything else from them. This is ok however as the best thing about this property is the proximity to everything. You're within 3 awesome areas, all less than a 5 minute walk! So many options to choose from. Great location for a first time visitor to Christchurch and makes exploring the city really easy so in that respect it's amazing.
Not sure how to reply to you so I'll just post here. On December 7th at approximately 6:45pm I was charged $6 for a vodka soda. On December 8th at around 6pm that same vodka soda was $8. I know it's only $2 but that's a 33% increase in price!
G.
Clean, well priced, breakfast was good enough. The rooms are small, but they use the space really well.
It should be unlimited free WiFi, instead of just 500mb per day. But I'll live.
L.
We slept well, the location is good, and I heard from others in our group that the restaurant was very good. Our room was dated, though clean. There was not much room for luggage. There was only only one pillow each.
H.
If u book through a agent you'll get the price down & it becomes really worth the $$$. Cute rooms comes W/ all da usual add on features. In the city but like I said out of all the hotels this 1 can compete W/ the best cash wise. Very stylish bar restaurant & room service available. Staff very friendly & helpful. I've stayed in alot of accommodation around the world & money is the main player as 2 how much u can afford 2 do after paying 4 your stay, dam good value, loved it. I had pictures but lost my phone along W/ pics inside, a pity as the rooms r very unusual but you'll have 2 stay 2 find out.🛀🏋️🍝🍾🌐
T.
Even though the first impression was not great (I was given a room that already had somebody staying in there so it was a surprise to open the door to see someone else there), the experience since then has been very positive. The room is pretty compact yet has everything you need and the facilities are good.
N.
Awesome hotel, modern, quiet, slept really well. Reception staff were great (upgraded room to twin instead of double since it was my daughters birthday). Spent the next night at Rendezvous but would have rather stayed another night here.
T.
Beautiful hotel, cute cosy rooms. Clean and well looked after
D.
Anna has provided impeccable suggestions of nearby restaurants. Great service behind the counter and clean hotel. Ambient lighting in the room bathrooms give a different yet novel vibe. The gym is small but has a dumbbell weight rack which is surprising. Highly recommend the stay if anyone is ever staying in Christchurch. Onsite parking is also free for hotel guests if you're renting a vehicle.
L.
This is a great option for an overnight stay in Christchurch where three room is only required for sleeping and showering. I had a work function so was out late and left early so it was perfect for me. The rooms are so compact and very clean. I'll definitely be using break free again.
P.
This place is right at the centre of the action in Christchurch. However the rooms are very small. And some don’t even have windows. However they are very clean, and have a good shower
B.
Nice trendy place. Entrance is though the bar and cafe so there is a sense of vibrancy rather than a sterile hotel. Rooms a small but have a cool restroom/shower pod thing.
P.
This is a budget option, with very small single rooms. They do have larger rooms for couples, but the prices are not very competitive for the ammenities that you receive. There is a blue light under the bed, which some might find charming.
M.
Rooms are clean and well appointed. No opening windows in mine so it appears you are limited to the ventilation system. This is a place you go to sleep rather than an attraction or place of entertainment. They have a good inhouse food court doing three meals a day. It is very close to the court and government departments like MSD and ministry for children, so if you are out of town Counsel, this would be a good option.
L.
Our stay was amazing! The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Loved the coloured lights in the shower and the alarm system.
The staff were all very friendly and I would 150% stay again!
P.
Quirky hotel, but comfortable Central and was some good amenities. make sure you book parking I'll speak to the staff as early as possible about parking as they often seem quite confused about how it all works took two goes to get the car park code correct. nothing that is too much of a pain would certainly go back there again.
C.
Stayed here twice on a tour round NZ, big comfortable beds, with laundry facilities, a gym (didn't use it) and breakfast (didn't eat it). Location seemed fairly central, but I didn't spend much time in Christchurch so I wouldn't know. So overall, I don't really know much about this place, but it seemed nice so 5 STARS!!!!
D.
Nice and clean hostel..rooms are clean and bed is of very good quality. The restaurant serves nice meals and the early breakfast is really good. In the middle of town you are closeby all majore places. Walking distance from the busstation. Staff is very friendly.
S.
Nice little hotel, great price, friendly environment. The room was tiny, but good experience! The staff let me off even tho I checked out 25 minutes late. Thank you
n.
Outstanding place to stay. This is a great location, great price, great staff. I can not fault this hotel have stayed here many times, great food and good prices. This is close to every thing, close to the bus station, shops. This is one of my favourite hotels to stay in.
A.
It was a modern, comfortable and tight accommodation with great TV and WiFi. We also enjoyed the kettle as we make hot drinks. The bed was clean and comfortable, the ensuite tidy with soap and towels. A very nice place to stay if you're wanting to stay in Christchurch.
N.
We chose this hotel because it was cheap,
modern and located Downtown. We booked the queensize bedroom (15mts2). We really liked the hotel, despite the TINY rooms, it was very well equiped in a compact way. Even the bathroom. It's a very good option If you need to stay one or two nights close to the CBD.
N.
My stay here was quite nice, the rooms were well maintained, modern, and for the price point had a decent amount of features and quality. The location of this hotel was perfect as well as it was right in the middle of town.
P.
Had a great stay of 5 nights. Staff was really friendly and helpful at all times. The room was clean and made for a great place to explore Christchurch from. Can only recommend.
R.
Decent priced and the hotel room was like something out of a sci-fi movie, crazy lights and a nice soft giant bed with a tv you can plug a hard drive into.
The room didnt have a window and the air con seemed not to work but apart from that a pretty good stay.
N.
Very nice food for lunch and good service. Enjoying our visit into the rebuilt city area.
C.
Great room and staff. Website should be more transparent about parking cost and deposit. Most people won't troll through the fine print so the important information should be noted on the availibility and pricing page. Other than that i loved it!!
K.
Our small room was too small but upgraded to bigger room which was great. Everything you need and wonderfully positioned near shops and restaurants. Friendly helpful staff
T.
We stayed at that hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of the month. An ideal place for a family. I've always been extremely happy with the cleanliness of the hotel. The ***ager was very professional in dealing with the problems. There are hotel employees all around waiting to assist you.
H.
Cute little cozy place.
Absolutely lovely.
Friendly staff.
Well maintained space.
Breakfast has multiple options.
So close to the central city attractions.
Neat and cute rooms.
Have stayed there all the 3times of my trip to CHCH.
one of the cheap and best accomodations, That’s Definitely recommended.
S.
Breakfree is excellent value for money. Great location close to town, restaurants, clubs etc. The rooms have everything you need, however our mood lighting didnt work, but we didnt check in until after 11pm, so didnt bother getting it fixed. Would be great to have drinks (non-alcoholic) available on the overnight room service.
s.
Good location in central city, average hotel rooms, parking available at a charge for 24hrs but there're plenty parking building in adjacent street almost from every direction. Restaurant is located at the entrance and do lunch specials at a decent price with large portion. They are normally quite busy during lunch hours, Booking recommend.
T.
First impression, was Ada (or similar name) not even looking at us while confirming our booking at reception. She was actually very clinical. Not sure how I missed the fact that there was a gym or laundry facilities to use. Found the room partly cleaned. The mirror was dirty. I've tried to take photos of the padding around the bed, and where the phone sits in the cradle. Not sure if camera has captured how dirty they were. Couldn't easily take photos of other dirty areas. The bed and linen were clean. The room is very little. On a bonus, you are in central Christchurch. On a downside, we did not know we would have to pay for parking. Also, they don't let you know, that if you use your credit card, you get a surcharge. All in all, hidden details and costs added. Be prepared to pay extra. What is offered, is not necessarily all the required information.
B.
Great location in Christchurch for walking to the shoppings, bars, restaurants etc. The rooms are fairly small but they do the job considering what you pay for. The staff were all friendly and I would certainly come back here. Nice cafe downstairs.
R.
Staff are great. We were upgraded to the 6th floor room & it was easily a 5star stay. Breakfast could be improved but over all just great.
T.
Good position. Very small room, queen size bed is a little bit tight for two people. Clean enough. But charge 15 dollars for parking.
S.
BreakFree on Cashel provided affordable accommodation in the centre city. The room was compact, but good use of mirrors to disguise this (didn't feel too small). Minimal kitchen utensils, not suited for someone trying to eat in the room.
T.
Visited for breakfast. Standard hotel continental breakfast (nothing good, nothing bad). Staff seem to struggle with working their own register and provide average competition. Would not recommend, but wouldn't avoid either, and would dine again if someone else's credit card was paying for it
A.
Clean and tidy room, very comfortable and central to everything. Great room service 😊.
B.
Firstly let's talk cost I spent 5 nights in a Inner Urban Double room for $355 which is great value! The hotel has so many services to use. Theres a gym, bar and restaurant, with good food might I add. The staff are very friendly and …
T.
Pretty average coffee and meals. But they were efficient :)
E.
Breakfast Buffett NZ$19 Continental breakfast NZ$15 not bad not great. Pretty busy around 8am
After staying here for one night …
S.
Loved my room. Fantastic value. I will certainly stay there again
D.
Rooms are OK... If you're looking for somewhere to sleep, not much else. But I can recommend the pork belly burger... Crackling was so crispy! Yum
R.
Excellent location. Small room but with everything you need. Comfortable bed, TV, good hot shower
L.
Our stay was amazing! The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Loved the coloured lights in the shower and the alarm system. …
W.
Great breakfast.
L.
Had the king size bed l, lovely bathroom. Room clean. Would have liked to have extra blankets instead of using heater all night.
c.
Ok - so it is one of the hotels that withstood the quakes. Experienced one or two while I stayed there. They don't have any sort of alarm system or warning or communication system in this hotel which was a little un-nerving. obviously - they didn't think it was a big deal, but we had already been shaken out of bed by the 7.9 quake the week before. perhaps we were sensitised. Clean hotel with very strange bathrooms next to the bed.
M.
Food was good, nothing amazing but some nice flavours and well executed. Felt it was a bit over priced for the quality. A bit odd to have the restaurant situated as the main walk way to the accommodation reception although great for people watching. Lovely staff, service bright and cheerful but unorganized- mains arrived before dishes had been cleared.
h.
The rooms are soooooo small here. Wish i would've taken photos. Don't know how they managed to fit a bathroom in the rooms. Ours (and I'm assuming most) didn't have a window!!!!! Good location though
C.
Lovely comfortable bed, efficient use of space for the bathroom, great powerful shower. Staff very helpful, nice coffee shop in reception.
G.
The checkin to checkout was amazing. The hotel is located in the he central city whilst the room and service were fabulous. As a Platinum Accor member the hotel surpassed my expectations. I look forward to staying again in the near future.
J.
usual buffet breakfast, bacon beans etc Continental also available, good breakfast for the price, nice layed back venue, Attentive pleasant staff
Very handy in the inner city
J.
Rooms are pretty small, shower doors don't close all the way so the water leaks out into the actual bathroom area. But pretty cheap accommodations and the food at the restaurant is really good.
J.
Staff is super professional and helpful. Great price for clean, cozy room. Room cleaned every day with fresh supplies. Really glad I stayed here!
C.
I have been in this accommodation just for few days, I met the receptionist(a girl and a guy )very very helpful. MY check -in was at 2 o clock but I was arrived very early in the morning and I explained to her how much I was tired and I asked if was possible get the room as soon as possible.
The lovely girl in one hour found the room for me.She left me spichules. BRAVISSIMA.
In the afternoon I realized that I' ve got the wrong room,so went at the reception again, and in one minutes the boy fixed everything with the key and the number of the room.Impress.
For the second time in one day I was feeling really thankful to both of them.
The food is great and even the front staff are very friendly and polite.
I got the cappuccinos this morning and the coffee maker sent me back in Italy.
The best coffe I have ever had.
Room very clean and everything works perfectly.
So guys , keep going the Wonderful and Amazing job.You are awesome! .
I would like to say many thanks to all of you, specially at the two guys at the reception.Great job.
Cindy.
S.
Nice staff, great location, who cares that the rooms are small, they are only for sleeping, which reminds me..... the mattress was softer than a marshmallow.
Only thing I would change is the music..... so repeat 80’s play list.
I.
Space in rooms may be small but definitely sufficient. Rooms were space efficient and the room lights manager was really cool, as was the way the bathroom was designed.
J.
Stay here all the time when traveling for work. Always a good nights sleep, and consistently good service. Join Mantra+ (Google it, it's free to sign up) and you'll get some added bonuses when you stay - more wifi, free drink at the bar, discount on bar/food, and a late check out
S.
Quality.
I travel to Christchurch every 3 months for work and end up spending my week staying at Breakfree in an Urban Double room.
The size is perfect for me and it's so close to anywhere I need to go.
Couldn't recommend this hotel enough. The staff are always bright and chirpy, even when you're questioning them about things during the early hours of the morning.
L.
LOVED LOVED this hotel. So small but the rooms were really great, comfortable bed and well laid out. The only negative is the restaurant - food was really just average and overpriced
R.
Worth for money. Basic room is little tight for two people but clean and decent english breakfast. Booking uber from here give enough time as there are road works nearby. Fast check in and check out.
M.
Great location, was able to walk all around Christchurch easily. Good modern room, would definitely stay here again. Great staff!
B.
The staff are friendly, the food is good, central location so it's quick to get around. Although the rooms are small, they work well and the hotel has a good feel.
V.
Fantastic little room with everything you need. Got a great sleep and very quiet considering it’s in the middle of town. Parking options great too.
l.
Smallest room ever. If you're large dont stay here you be lucky to fit in toilet or shower but if you only want a bed then a good option. Close to cbd
R.
Very welcoming, friendly staff (cheers Charlotte). Well kept compact (not small) rooms with all amenities, great breakfast range. Very pleasant stay
A.
It is value for money. Room was very compact and the bathroom is very interesting. Gr8 for a night stay or two but no longer. Very friendly staff.
P.
The rooms are clean and tidy, the rooms are small, very small.
C.
The rooms are on the small side (or at least the one that I had) without much of a desk to work on. But if you are outside most of the time then this is a very good hotel to stay during a trip to Christchurch.
Y.
Central location, reasonably priced. There are only few dining options nearby, most of the restaurants seemed not started after 2011. Size of the room was ok. Check in /check out was ok, although they could not locate my reservation quickly.
P.
We were very lucky to receive an upgrade. We had a very modern room with 4 USB ports, soft closing toilet & tastefully decorated spacious rooms.
T.
The room we had was a great little room! I loved the lighting features, especially its effect on the shower water. We had a nice view, too.
K.
Great tidy room well appointed, if a little compact. Would probably skip breakfast next time. Dont forget to set you alarm if you are in an internal room, as you don't know its morning!
C.
Great restaurant and the rooms are very.. different, but cool. The lights were stuck on for a time when I was trying to sleep, but shut off after a few minutes.
S.
That's ok for 1. But for 2 the normal room are too small. Breakfast was good. Location is great.
H.
Very clean and modern. The rooms are really tiny, which is why they're so cheap! I always stay here when I'm visiting Christchurch.
R.
Excellent location. Small room but with everything you need. Comfortable bed, TV, good hot shower
A.
Staff friendly. Bed and bathroom nice. However, our room was so tiny it was hard to have two suitcases out at a time for packing/unpacking
A.
Lovely meal last night and breakfast, clean and compact but comfortable rooms. Great staff
C.
Good if you want cheap stay.
$87 per night
T.
Very good food! And awesome waiters with a good sense of humour, which is a big plus! Large serving sizes as well, so wasn't able to have dessert but not at all a complaint
R.
Great nights sleep very close to CBD however still quite enough to sleep well
B.
Great location, great price, clean/small/sufficient rooms and decent service. Free WiFi limited to 500mb/night but sufficient for light use. It is close to a wide range of shops and restaurants.
M.
2nd time I have stayed here. Comfortable central and staff are great. The salmon for dinner was delicious
O.
4 stars due to cost. Good value. Room clean. No fridge in interior rooms. Plenty of room for 1. Comfortable bed with TV and mood lighting in room. 500mb free WiFi.
A.
Excellent location for restaurants and craft beers. We had a larger room which was very good
S.
We stay here all the time. Good accommodation for the price and restaurant on ground floor. Rooms are small but who stays in there room anyhoo. Right in the middle of the city.
S.
The downstairs restaurant area has a great friendly atmosphere. The whole place is modern and the Urban room I stayed in was a perfect design for a small room. I would definitely stay again.
D.
Rooms are OK... If you're looking for somewhere to sleep, not much else. But I can recommend the pork belly burger... Crackling was so crispy! Yum
K.
Located in the CBD and only 2 minutes walk to the H&M store in the Crossing and 5 mins walk to the yet-to-be rebuilt Christchurch Cathedral. On a low floor double room. Probably less than 15 square metre in size, but it comes with fully amendities and free wifi. Parking is very limited behind the hotel. Buffet breakfast was average breakfast with the usual bacon, hash brown, etc. A rather busy hotel with many tourists and local sports clubs using the many function rooms.
M.
Great location for wandering through the city. Very small rooms but we're only sleeping in the room so not a problem really.
C.
Rooms were spacious. Double bed was a bit too high. Bottom deck of the double decker bed had too little head room. Breakfast was delicious, apart from the over-salted hashbrowns..
C.
The hotel has free 500mb per room per 24 hour period. Also, the smart TV in the room is an added bonus! One of the more modern and high tech hotels!
S.
Pretty great, love it.
Used to stay when it was hotel so,
Loved it when the shower had mood lights
Definitely love it
T.
Clean and tidy. Close to town centre...good value. Small room for a single person but works well.
Good placement of tv
J.
Good breakfast. Very small rooms but clean tidy& very reasonable 😁
A.
Clean but booked a budget one, so it's good for that budget
C.
Good location, close to food and bars, rooms adequate, bed comfortable. Had the full breakfast which was good. Friendly staff.
d.
Nice clean hotel near city centre. Cheaper rooms are without windows but very comfy and quiet. Free wifi.
Y.
Small cosy rooms.. well organized.. optimum utilisation of space.. well situated in the heart of the city.. everything is just a walk away.. the Breakfast was also yummy..
A.
My stay at the breakfree on Cashel was comfortable. Room service was good and the food was decent. The location is handy as it is easy to access parts around the city. Staff are friendly.
D.
This was a pretty interesting stay for us. Venue was very tidy and rooms are quirky. If you get a pod room though, be very aware it is exactly what it says on the box.
B.
Hip rooms is right. The kid loved the spaceship bathroom. Food wasn't awesome, but the service was nice. Daycare isn't available on weekends as it turns out.
r.
The hotel is nicely set out but not sure about the rooms. The Cafe on-site is moderately priced
N.
My go-to Christchurch hotel for business travel. Basic accommodation at an affordable price with friendly staff, decent restaurant and a great central location and a dozen restaurants within 5 minutes' walk.
c.
The rooms are tiny and "hip" but they are clean, fairly cheap and the restaurant /bar has very good food.
S.
Tiniest room i have ever stayed and worst was we travelled with lot of luggage. But very affordable and good location. The restaurant and bar area were very lively and staff were friendly.
S.
It was very reasonably priced and very close to the Bus Interchange for the service to Picton and the ferry to Wellington
The staff were so pleasant
Room was small but everything provided - I would stay there again
r.
As usual compact but all you need. Very tidy. Very clean. A good place to base yourself but don't plan on cooking.
A.
Friendly check in. Clean light room. Good bed. A few more movies channels would be great - but that's a minor detail.
G.
great value for money.. neat clean.. good food area and helpful staff
R.
Great for a quick stay. Cheap, but not cheap looking... I love the economical use of space in the rooms. Tiny yet feels spacious
l.
Very clean and tidy. Very helpful. Has everything you need. Handy to everything in town. Second time I have stayed there.
L.
It is ok very small room and you have to pay for parking
P.
Tidy and quiet. Restaurant is on the ground floor so nice and handy.
Good buffet breakfast.
I would stay there again.
M.
I found the room clean and comftable. The staff helpful a friendly. I will return should the oper unity come up. The food and coffee especially very good.
D.
Very small but tidy rooms. 5min. walk to almost all major tourist hotspots like cathedral square, central bus terminal and re:start mall. Be aware that Christchurch suffered two major earthquakes. So big and lound construction sites are arround every corner in the city.
E.
Located at the heart of the city. Nice environment and amenities. The staff at the front desk could smile a little more to make guest walking in feel welcome.
c.
Tiny little rooms, but comfortable and with everything you need. On ground floor many stars to the restaurant, kind service and good food.
M.
Not bad, you get what you pay for, however i’d advise only staying in a non window room if you’re just there to sleep and not spend anytime in the room as it made us feel suffocated after a while
The location was very convenient for us
L.
A cool concept and great use of space. Nice place to stay
M.
There food was very nice and they had a wide selection of different options to choose from. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in Christchurch and looking for a nice place to have a breakfast.
R.
I had such a good stay here, room was modern and bed was so comfy.the staff and food were awesome. Highly reccomend
B.
It's a classy place right in the middle of the city. Easy walking to restaurants, shopping malls, and attractions. My wife and I enjoyed the stay and will look forward to staying again.
F.
We were so happy with everything especially staff so friendly. We had a family room and it was super cool. We loved it😍😍i
T.
City center location with free parking at the back(limited spaces). Family room was really tiny and not looking very clean. Only recommend for budget staying.
K.
We only come here for the all you can eat breakfast which was good. The service was brilliant and very friendly. The waiting on staff kept topping up the food once it eatten.
M.
Staff friendly, rooms small but surprisingly comfortable. Room service a little pricey but very nice
J.
Very new building with latest technology. The room we have a small windows, central location in city. 500 mb of data that barely enough but have option to upgrade. No breakfast included but they have restaurant @ lobby.
B.
Nice hotel, friendly helpful staff with restaurant onsite. Short walk to central city and bus terminal. Rooms are clean with normal facilities.
V.
Room was spacious. Good bathroom size and bed huge
R.
The rooms were neat and tidy, they were kinda small but that was expected. service at reception was highly available being 24/7 which is great.
N.
Good, cheap inner city accommodation. Be aware that cheap means sometimes no window, and a cruise-ship feeling cabin! A hiccup on checkin but otherwise good.
W.
Good location, nice gym. Toilet required me to add water manually every time I flushed, however room was fantastic otherwise.
D.
Very small rooms, but that doesn't bother me. My "city view" premium was literally of the building next door :/
K.
This was a very reasonably priced place to stay. Very central to many places of interest around christchurch. Was clean, tidy and staff were extremely friendly. I would definately stay here again
M.
Great place for a tidy room to sleep, bar restaurant, great value accommodation.
S.
Small but no probs. Stayed a week. No window but we knew that. Everything we needed was there. Would stay again. Extra for the parking but worth being in the city centre.
T.
Great price rooms & excellent bar selection with happy friendly service 😊🥂🥳
D.
Good stay, was put up with free food and accommodation courtesy of Air NZ (they cancelled my flight) no complaints...great food and drink.
A.
Stayed at Breakfree of Cashel a couple of weeks ago when in Christchurch for a traiing course. I had an inner urban double and it was the perfect size for one person. Very clean, good facilities and would highly recommend.
A.
I was visiting a friend and it seemed like a nice clean modern hotel, the rooms were on the small size however.
B.
Well priced and quirky cool rooms. We should have had the foresight to book a room with a window. Slightly 80s underworld feel
S.
Staff were approachable, friendly and helpful. Room was perfect for staying a weekend, and located close walking distance shops and public transport.
J.
Excellent place for the price rooms are kind a small other than that the staff is very excellent and it’s centrally located
C.
Room was small with poor AC. Very hot and stuffy.
Meals in restaurant were very good, and wait staff were terrific.
D.
Not fancy but all the basics covered to make you comfortable. Great for cost efficient travel. Friendly and helpful staff.
W.
Found it very useful right in the town located by the tramway hop skip and a jump to most things as we spent most of our time doing touristy things was a great place to crash whilst we had a cheapish room you get what you pay for
W.
My wife booked this for our last night in NZ and it was extremely comfortable and the staff was excellent. Really good location for things to do and not far from anywhere of need.
T.
Near city centre, breakfast was good despite limited options. Room neither spacious nor cramp. Good for short stay.
C.
Lovely , place. Perfect for all, and the closeness to the city.
S.
Bright modular rooms with modern facilties and reasonable/good dining facilities ... fine for a solo traveler. .. might be less space for two with cases
A.
I really enjoyed my overnight stay here. Kinda took me a while to get used to not having windows but i got used too it. Loved it😊
L.
Cheap! Clean and tidy but if a next time I will ask for a room with a window. Room was very small
S.
Great friendly staff. Top little bar & cafe, very clean rooms but the only downside to that they are very small.
S.
Very small rooms but comfortable and clean. All you need if you are out and about during the day
L.
Really nice rooms and food. This place is good value for money!
G.
Good value. Modern, well designed rooms. Bathrooms are very quirky. Lots of modern features
M.
You get what you pay for! Good value for the money! We'd only stayed 1 night because it was near to airport.
r.
Rooms were small, nice place to stay
M.
great location, parking is a bit Mickey mouse. breakfast was pretty underwhelming, windows were filthy and toilet sounded like the titanic was sinking...🤔
B.
Comfortable and quiet. Downside was no parking available. Had to be gone and at my car by 9am to avoid a ticket.
V.
The hotel was nice, food was great but the rooms are too small. Good for one nights stay.
D.
Great value. Friendly staff. Very comfortable
S.
Loved my room. Fantastic value. I will certainly stay there again
K.
Very clean and compact, room service is fast and the food is great, only place I'd stay in Downtown Christchurch.
K.
Very nice room, clean with all of the amenities. Lovely staff, very good for the price.
G.
Easy check in, room was comfortable with all you need for your stay, bed comfortable. Will recommend and will stay again.
B.
Great service from the staff, trendy comfortable rooms. Booking a room online from your mobile is a tad painful though.
C.
Compact and minimum space, is this bad not at all comfortable bed good shower what else do you actually need.
A.
Clean room, helpful staff, a good breakfast. There is also a laundry room if you need. Central location, near a bunch of stores and good restaurants.
S.
Very small rooms and some wasted space created by designer bathroom that just isn't very functional !! Some good lighting effects and good sized TV !!
J.
$20 breakfast was a bit steep. Paper thin walls and small rooms. Would use again for price but if I had more I'd look somewhere else that is for sure.
M.
Basic Room, very clean and good value for money. Must try breakfast absolutely beautiful.
B.
The room was small but had all the amenities necessary for one night. Service was great
L.
Great Motel, Friendly Staff, Reasonably Stay & Priced Food - Futuristic Room & complimentary free water bottle 500mls & mini chocolate, BreakFree pad & pen 😊
R.
Not great...... Chicken wrap OK...... Cup of tea was tbag in cup, luke warm and had to ask for milk which was presented in two litre bottle.
D.
Affordable and conveniently located in CBD. Clean and tidy room. Check-in was a breeze. Theres a spacious cafe/restaurant in the ground floor.
R.
Great stay! Close to almost everything. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Highly recommend!!
R.
Good facilities and helpful staff. Great conference room!
S.
great location for such a fair price; very clean with gym and laundry service and free WiFi. Very good Cafe Bar 165 on the ground floor with great hospitality.
S.
Chris, the duty manager is the person to speak with when something is not right. Thanks Chris for improving the quality of our stay at BreakFree on Cashel.

H.
Room is pretty small, but has all the facilities. Very near to the cathedral and the main square.
n.
Room was smaller than the one I thought I booked only for one night staff friendly and helpful and hotel very clean and tidy
L.
Great value in centre of Christchurch. Had everything we needed and very helpful staff. Would definitely stay again.
A.
Not bad for 75$ for a night with a small room n attached glass shower n bathroom in main cbd. Definitely recommended.
G.
Went there oct 25. Went to do visa for Australia application. Waitresses at cafe downstairs were snobbish. Waiting area at ground floor was dim.
T.
Breakfast is really good. The room is clean. You get what you pay, overall recommended.
J.
Central city. Good breakfast included.
Room good for price.
D.
Stayed in the smallest of rooms which was about 10'x7' including bathroom, and was totally impressed with the thought that went into the small space design and technology in the room
V.
Very nice hotel with a bar/restaurant at the lobby. Modern looking rooms and wall control panel for the lights/alarms.
H.
Small room but it was set out well, lots of people using the lift so had to use the stairs every time but once, that time we got stuck in it.
M.
Affordable accommodation and quite nice rooms. I like the automatic check in.
T.
