Once you have been on a NZ based company Escape Adventures bike trip I guarantee you will want to do another. They are so well organized with wonderful supportive guides and include the help of valued locals. Just pick the level according to your biking skills and experience - if not a great deal then consider the easier Cambodia and Fiji trips. If you have more bike experience and fitness then Kenya/Tanzania and Colombia were fantastic, exotic, challenging.....with the flexibility of the support vehicle at all times. Covid has interrupted our plans but we hope to join them in Kyrgyzstan sometime in the future

Joey and I had the most incredible trip to Kenya and Tanzania during June of 2019. The information and helpfulness from Mandy in the office, to the actual bike tour with John and the crew, is a testament to them offering an experience of a lifetime and living up to it. We felt we had an authentic African experience - can't get much more real than waiting for giraffes to cross the track and watching tribesmen herd their goats in to the village for the night at sunset.
Next on the list is Madagascar with Escape Adventures of course!

Escape Adventures are a great, professional and fun company. We absolutely loved the trip we took to East Africa with them. Our kids ( and us!) had the trip of a lifetime. Exceptionally well run and safe, the insight into slow travel in Africa really hit home and enabled us to interact at a local level in a way most trips don't. The local support was superb and it was so good to see the long term investment in country that Escape Adventures have fostered. Kit supplied (bikes) were also great quality and more than up to what was asked of them. I really have to recommend that you give them a go when you get the chance to travel.

We had a great trip with Escape Adventures on their Magical Mystery Cycle Tour over Labour Weekend 2021. All we knew was we were starting in Nelson - the weekend was a great experience and would highly recommend it to everyone. Very well organised by some great people with great ideas for entertaining us all.

Fabulous adventure that was within reach of all - whether on electric bikes or pedalling along. An amazing route, including through private land, making it very special. Great fun and laughter was had by all.

A big thank you to Mandy and John for conceiving of a such a great tour, inclusive and great fun, took us to places we had never been. Accomodation was superb and the crew made it a great experience.

The Kenya Tanzania Escape Adventure was fantastic. I would do it again and highly recommend it if you want to experience wild-life in the wild, the people, and the culture! It was Kiwi style experience in Africa; fun, everyone pitching in and something new every day. Our group size was small which made it so much more personal. Camping meant we were off the beaten track, meeting locals and the food produced from the back of the "Beast", our support truck, excellent. Their custom made bikes were easy to use, comfortable and well maintained. A truly memorable experience with wonderful guides.

My wife and I did a memorable cycling tour across Madagascar with Escape Adventures. The organisation was good, the itinerary was well thought out, the tour leaders were top notch and the local support crew terrific. It was fun from start to finish and really was a great adventure. I highly recommend Escape Adventures to anyone.

One of the absolute highlights of my life was my Escape Adventures Cambodia tour in 2019. Extremely professional, great communication leading up to the tour and everything throughout the tour exceeded my expectations. Each day was fill of great company, fantastic riding, friendly locals, delicious food and all supported by an amazing team of tour guides and local guides. Can't wait to do Cape2Cape Aotearoa with Escape in 2021.

I had a fantastic kind of once in a lifetime cycling trip through Kenya and Tanzania with Escape Adventures. The unique advantage they provided to me was going to remote places and villages to meet local people and see their way of life. We were often the only European looking people for days. Plus the wildlife close-up such as huge elephants coming up to our truck. But the best was cycling along this dirt track in the middle of nowhere and having to stop to give way to a family of giraffes intent on keeping on their way regardless of we cyclists!

My Fiji adventure with Escape travels was so well organised. And we had so many laughs.
They made it very easy bikes were well serviced and fitted to each rider beautifully. My experiences and things I seen was a once in a lifetime I will forever remember these.
I will definitely use Escape adventure travel again and again and again and can't wait to experience nz via bike.

Under a wonderfully laid back exterior Escape Adventures ran a tight ship, with variables covered in advance and always exhibiting a respect for the planet in general and the people and land of Cambodia in particular.

I have been on two of the group mountain biking tours, one to Madagascar and the other to Tibet/China.
On both of these trips we went to remote areas of the countryside and had great interaction with the people. The organization and experience was extremely good and very well led. I was one of the older persons of the group but didn't feel out of place at any stage.

These guys are just the BEST when it comes to running bike tours. I've been on three of their overseas trips and it was great fun, really well organised, with excellent equipment, and all done with minimum fuss and maximum success for everyone involved. Nothing was a problem, nothing was left to chance, and it was a pleasure to be part of their personality-plus attitude.

In July 2019, our Blenheim family (Mum, Dad and the children – 11,11 and 14 years) travelled on Escape Adventures 16 day family cycle tour in Kenya and Tanzania.
Prior to our trip, we were well looked after by Mandy. We were giving detailed information about everything - itinerary, accommodation, immunisations, visas, money etc. Dietary needs were well catered for. We had the option of bringing our own bikes / pedals / seats but opted to use the company’s bikes with our own helmets.
For our family, this was perfect. 16 days in Africa, fully supported by a purpose built truck, two fantastic Kiwi biking tour leaders, one incredibly knowledgeable Swahili / English speaking driver, two other families, great food, a diverse itinerary refined over the last twenty years, an average of 30km biking a day, wonderful interactions with the locals and all the African animals you could imagine.
This was not a fluffy white towel holiday! In fact it’s best not to take anything white to these countries where the red dust, packed onto the road surfaces seems to infiltrate into every piece of clothing.
Our typical day started early. With tents down and breakfast eaten we set off . Our tour leaders enlightened us the evening before as to what lay ahead. Some days we biked first. Other days we drove first and then biked. The terrain was diverse and never too challenging for any of us.
We travelled on back roads, often sharing them with children walking to and from school, adults going about their daily work, children minding their goat / sheep herds, motorbike taxis and the occasional bus or car. There was never a dull moment. With a tour leader front and back of our group we travelled at our chosen speed. Rest and photo stops were encouraged. Local children sprinted from their huts to greet us like long lost friends. Their excitement blew us away. We seemed the best thing that had ever happened to them.
During our two non biking days , we explored Ngorongoro crater and Amboseli National park. Amboseli is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants. We were not disappointed, seeing plenty of elephants, of all ages.
The Ngorongoro crater, formed by an ancient volcano, covers 260 square kilometres. The highlight for us here, was spotting a very pregnant lioness, resting in the grass nearby. Seeking shade, she ventured forth, resting in the shade of the safari jeep we were travelling in. The memory of her purring, remains with me.
We spent a few days prior to the tour exploring Nairobi. We can really recommend Nairobi National Park and a tour of Kiberia, both of which we organised through our accommodation at Wildebeest Eco Camp. We ended our African travels with a recommended few days in Zanzibar, a short flight from Dar es Salaam. From Zanzibar it's a short flight to Dubai (with Emirates) where we connected with our 17 hour flight home.
As you may appreciate, this kind of tour isn’t for everyone. If you love biking, are fine with sleeping in a tent and getting up early AND if Africa is on your list of must-do’s, consider one of Escape Adventures tours.
As NZ is the safest place in the world to be right now, Escape Adventures have some awesome NZ tours coming up. Check out their website...

This is a review of Escape Adventure, based in Nelson, New Zealand,
I have done 3 tours with this family run cycling company. First one in
Madagascar in 2018 and then two in 2019, ie Fiji Islands and Tibet, China.
I have prebooked another tour in 2021 in Kenya/Tanzania, Africa.
This says it all.
I have done many international tours in the past 20 years such as
Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Croatia, Spain, Portugal,
Cuba 5 times, Costa Rica, Hawaii 3 times.
Escape Adventures surpasses them in their organizational skills,
adventure and cultural experiences.

Hi Mandy and John. Just want to say what a great company you run.
I took the punt in 2018 to do the Kenya/Tanzania tour with you guys and I tell you it was the best trip I have ever been on. So well organised and run by such amazing leaders it was worth every penny if not more for the experience.
In 2019 I had to do another one. China/Tebet. Again I wasn't disappointed. Another trip of a life time. Again run by great leaders and both tours have been so much fun.
If Covid hadn't dropped on us I would have been on my third trip and maybe planning a forth.
To anyone out there thinking of an overseas adventure on a bike. These guys rock. So well organised. Everything put on. You just turn up grab one of their bikes and have the time of your life.
For a small run New Zealand business run out of Nelson, these guys punch well above there weight.
Now they are unable to venture overseas for these great tours they are doing NZ based ones. No doubt they are as well run as all others.
So if you are thinking of doing one, my motto is "don't think about it just do it". Otherwise it could be to late.
Thanks again team.

I went on the Escape Adventures Africa trip and it was absolutely incredible! A total stand out and organised to perfection! The team is professional, the gear is great and they just know how to make tours fun, social and inclusive! I highly, highly recommend!

Did a mountain bike tour from Kenya to Tanzania and had a ball.Everything was well taken care of and lots of fun had.Clearly it would have taken a long time to find the route we travelled. Would do another tour with these guys anytime.
