We did a TON of research before booking and picked Flying Kiwi because it was the best value. But on top of a great value, it was so much more. Honestly, this is the best way to see New Zealand. We did the 21 day Overland Explorer tour. It was hassle free and completely enjoyable. You are able to tailor your trip by picking your unique excursions in each place. You can do ANYTHING from endless hiking and biking to adrenaline fix’s like skydiving and bungie jumping! The tour is extremely organized day to day, so you get everywhere on the north and south island with enough time to enjoy it. There are more than 30 meals included (up to 3 per day) and they are well prepared in the commercial kitchen (and delicious). The bus is really comfortable and allows you to sit back and relax to enjoy the jaw dropping scenery of New Zealand. All of the camping equipment is provided and is of sound quality. We also added bikes to our tour so we were able to take advantage of the scenic bike trails in each locale (this is really a must do, so worth it). Many of the camp sites were epic and we would have never sought them out if planning on our own. I would highly recommend Flying Kiwi to anyone visiting New Zealand! We wish we could have stayed longer with the tour, we didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back!

It’s intimidating to plan a trip around an entire country, and try to hit all the great places while saving your sanity with the frequent plane rides or long drives. Sometimes you can end up spending more time getting to destinations than really enjoying them.
Flying Kiwi took the stress of planning and executing an amazing trip of a lifetime to New Zealand and made all of our “must visit” locations possible. We were lucky enough to have time to do the 2 week South Island tour and the 10-day North Island tour. As Americans, we know getting that much time off work is difficult, but I really don’t know how you could pick one tour over the other as they were both incredible.
My husband and I generally don’t book into guided tours groups or buses, and the trip was our first as adults. We were so impressed from the beginning with the communication from the office staff - as they were happy to answer our questions and figure out logistics over the phone and email - to the tour guides who were were so friendly and engaged and worked hard to get us booked into every activity we were interested in, and made even rainy days amazing.
We can’t stress enough how freeing it is to jump on a bus, have someone who knows the country and locations well drive you there, give you time to see everything, and then drive you to your next location. We saw far more of the country than we could have even known about if we had tried to do it on our own. Couple that with a bus-full of like-minded travelers with incredible stories and talents you learn about as you cook and camp with them every night, and you have an inkling of an idea of how it is to tour with Flying Kiwi.
We loved all the locations they picked, and the guides were genuinely interested and excited to know how activities went for passengers, tweaking time frames and drives to fully accommodate everyone’s wishes and needs.
The food is amazing, delicious home cooked healthy menus that cater to anyone’s dietary needs. I am vegetarian and never was made to feel as an inconvenience or was given just a salad as a meal (the plight of vegetarians…haha) We had varied meals filled with fresh grilled vegetables, curries, pastas, etc.
There really are activities for everyone; hiking, biking, beautiful scenic drives, bungee jumps, dolphin swims, literally everything you could want. We were also impressed with the fact that one could go on tour and not book any extra activities, and simply do the hikes and bikes and get an amazing full experience of New Zealand from that! It isn’t necessary to book and pay for all the extras everyday to have an amazing tour.
Flying Kiwi has tapped into something that is difficult to explain in a review, they have somehow harnessed an entire life experience, more than "just a trip", and made it accessible to anyone who is interested. They welcomed us into their country, showed us all their amazing sites, and never make us feel like an outsiders or a tourists, but more like old friends they want to show the best experience to. They have changed our minds about group tours and have given us an experience so much deeper and more meaningful than we could have found on our own. Hopefully that helps in your decision to book a tour!

Where to start? The awe inspiring scenery, the adventures along the way or the amazing people on the bus? Each will remain as wonderful memories of the very best time of my life. From the moment first stepping on the bus with a very warm welcome by tour guide and driver Robbie John and tour guide Lea, I knew this would be the beginning of changes in me and how I look at the world and the people around me. I know a lot of work goes in to making a group of strangers become a bonded caring group of travel mates but Robbie John and Lea made it seem effortless. Each day traveling in the bus with requests for music, for no music, for A/C, for heat were all handled with a smile. The stories of New Zealand history and Maori legends and the beautiful morning song all were special gifts to us from Robbie John. Every day was beautiful and held such amazing moments and I would say ‘Ah this is the best day!’ then play repeat for the next days. I can’t imagine a better way to explore the variety of beautiful landscape that New Zealand has to offer and bike riding along roads and bike paths and trails then setting up the tent for the night and being part of the cook group and the laughter around the dinner table, all just parts that made up this wonderful experience. The adventures along the way hiking and kayaking in Abel Tasman, cruising in Milford Sound, camping at a shearers station, sailing in the pristine waters of the Bay of Islands, floating in the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves and sky diving for the very first time at 60 years of age; all were over the top experiences for me and still that smile is instantly on my face at my first thought of the trip but the very best is the people I met on the bus. Each one enriched my life in a very special way and the last few days were hard – saying good bye to pieces of my heart. But no worries! I aim to spend the rest of my traveling life reconnecting with those pieces of my heart. Thank you Flying Kiwis for such a wonderful experience! I will be back on the bus one day!

I had the time of my life on my Ultimate Explorer Tour Flying Kiwi tour guided by Magan and Dennis. Their professionalism, organization, and genuine passion towards this beautiful country truly shone through and they did whatever they could to make it an unbelievable experience. Their energy, enthusiasm, and positiveness really set an amazing vibe for the whole tour group and we fed off of it. The food, accommodations (especially the bush camps!), and activities were spectacular. We saw what I felt was the best of the best when it came to New Zealand's pristine beauty and every moment was truly immersive. They definitely pack as much of the country into the tour while still allowing you extra bits of time in the uniquely special areas. It's the perfect combination and really entices you to come back to NZL ... hopefully to stay for a lifetime :D. Our FK family was incredible, a varying age range of eclectic personalities that enhanced the experience considerably. Made some friends for life which is invaluable. Couldn't recommend this company more, simply spectacular. I'll repeat it once more ... time it of my life :).

If you ever think of doing a tour in NZ, Flying Kiwi was the best way to see the most amazing things of this country. I did the Ultimate Explorer Tour and had an awesome time visiting both islands and meeting new friends all over the world. My tour guides Genna and Jess, and afterwards also Robbie-John and Frankie, they did a perfect job, showing us every day the best things at every place we went, gave us so much interesting information about NZ itself, and were awesome. It was so much fun, even the bus rides felt like an adventure when you drive through this beautiful nature. You know you had the best time ever, when you just don't want to leave the bus on your last day...I'm coming back on day, that's for sure! Thanks for making my time in NZ awesome in every way Flying Kiwi and of course Genna, Jess, Frankie and Robbie-John. Keep it up! :)

I had the best holiday with Flying Kiwi. Besides the fact that New Zealand is absolutely stunning, this company made sure the group saw the best spots, did amazing hikes and activities and overall just had the most wonderful time together. Their communication is perfect, they keep you up to date at all times, before and during the trip. Our 2 tour guides Genna and Charlene were the absolute best and they went out of their way to make sure we had an awesome experience. The camping was great as well and the group (24 people) was really fun. 10/10 will recommend this to anyone who is looking for an amazing adventurous (!) time in New Zealand, meet a lot of fun people and you don't have to worry about a thing in the mean while.

The Flying Kiwi experience has been awesome! The Ultimate Explorer tour was a fantastic way to see the magical New Zealand. Lots of options for activities - hiking, cycling, swimming, kayaking, rafting, skydiving just to name a few. There's also always option to enjoy my day with a more relaxing pace when I felt like it. Never felt bored for a second during the 28-day tour. And I’ve met many wonderful people, the nice and friendly guides and all those like-minded travellers. We had so much fun together! Great time in NZ with Flying Kiwi!!

Me and my husband had the pleasure of doing the ultimate explorer trip in March/April with Flying Kiwi. I cannot praise highly enough the experience we had on the trip. NZ is a beautiful country and I felt the tour has done it justice. Aaron & Becca were excellent. Aaron was a great driver, very steady and a smooth ride in the bus. Becca was an excellent cook and always fun and the mood in the bus was brill. Both Aaron and Becca were always approachable and hardworking. We hired bikes and were very impressed by the quality of the maps we were given with each ride, and that we got to cycle most days. The campsites we stayed at were nice. The food provided was always fresh with plenty of veg- I was amazed such food could be prepared whilst camping! Really good selection of additional activities available. We have made a great group of friends from the trip; it certainly was a holiday of a life time. Thanks Flying Kiwi! 😀

The whole ultimate explorer trip with Flying Kiwi was an awesome experience. The tour offers activities for everyone like hiking, biking, swimming. Adrenaline activities like skydiving, fox canyon swing or rafting or just take it easy and enjoy the amazing landscape of New Zealand. My tour guides Genna and Frankie were fantastic. I can just recommend this trip if you want to get to know the most out of New Zealand then do the trip in at least 28 days. It was and is an adventurous and entertaining journey.

I did the Ultimate Explorer, 4 weeks trip and Flying Kiwi exceeded my expectations in every area. I was expecting average food, maybe making a friend or two and enjoying New Zealand of course, but it ended up being so much better than I first imagined. I made friends for life, the food was excellent, the guides were so fun and fantastic and of course New Zealand itself was so stunning and incredible!! So much variety. New Zealand has so many surprises up it's sleeve in terms of nature and unique experiences. I enjoyed the camping life so much too and the hikes and bike rides were fantastic! Tom and Kim were my guides for the first 2.5 weeks, followed by Tommy and Shannon for my last 10 days and I was so impressed with both pairs! I got so attached to Kim and Tom as they are an amazing duo and gave me so many laughs that I was bummed to get new guides but Shannon and Tommy ended up being so great too. I was so grateful that Flying Kiwi had chosen their guides so well as it makes a huge difference when they love their job and are enjoying everything alongside you and making genuine friendships. They love their jobs and it shows.
Thank you for the wonderful memories I'm taking with me. :)

Had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Flying Kiwi Winter Alpine Tour from start to finish. From the moment I entered the bus on day 1 I knew it would be a great trip as all of the group were very welcoming including our driver who provided some top notch banter! The tour covered some of the most beautiful areas in the South Island, always giving us a chance to take in the views and soak up NZ at its finest! There were many options of activities to take part in depending on budget etc. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience NZ and come away with many stories to tell and memories that will last forever!

I booked onto the Ultimate Explorer Tour with Flying Kiwi, it was one of the best trips I have ever done with awesome tour guides, Shannon and Tommy. They really made the trip the best it could possibly be. They are always there to make you feel relaxed and are always ensuring you are getting the most out of your flying kiwi experience!
Great healthy food & brilliant company on the bus, a real big family feel full of adventure! I have made friends for life on this trip and have been given amazing opportunities for activities I have only ever dreamed of doing!
We stopped at beautiful campsites across the whole of New Zealand, some wilderness camps, others with upgrade options and beach campsites where we enjoyed a campfire roasting marshmallows singing along to the guitar!
All round fantastic trip! Thank You Flying Kiwi for showing me this gorgeous country in such an adventurous way!

Absolutely amazing 4 weeks on the Ultimate Explorer Tour. I was instantly made to feel part of the team on arrival and never felt that anything was too much to ask of the Flying Kiwi team on board, Craig and Anna. No matter what your reasons for touring NZ-be they adrenaline activities, simply chilling out, meeting new people, scenery, even learning to cook, this tour caters to it all. Impossible to pick out just one highlight of the trip, every day surpasses the one before! I would highly recommend Flying Kiwi to anyone looking to see as much of New Zealand as possible in a short period of time.

I had the pleasure of doing the Hot Rocks Tour with Flying Kiwi in October 2019 and to say it was the trip of a lifetime would be an understatement. From the minute I got on the bus in Auckland, my guides Brooke and Aaron made me feel like I was part of the family, and I met so many fun people that I’m still in touch with to this day. The tour offered something for absolutely everyone, accommodating both the adrenaline junkies and the beach bums, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to make the tour my own through the plethora of excursions offered. Our campsites were always clean, quiet, and really offered me an opportunity to see parts of the country that I definitely would have missed if I was trying to go it alone. As a solo traveller, it was awesome to be able to share all these new experiences with like-minded people and despite the wide range of ages on the bus we definitely all felt like peers, and family by the end.
I cried getting on the plane to come home because I wasn’t ready to leave and I’m already planning a return trip to the southern island. Thank you so much for everything Flying Kiwi, hope to see you again very soon!

Had THE most amazing time with Flying Kiwi. I signed up for the Ultimate Explorer, and it was just that! I don't think there was anywhere we didn't go! As a solo traveller, it was even easier to make new friends and I really enjoyed spending my holiday with such an awesome group of internationally diverse people. I now have even more places I have to go visit!
A camping trip certainly helps you to see places further off the beaten track. The guides, Aaron and Charlene were brilliant. So much passion for their country, and respective islands. The community culture at meal times was a great way to get to know others on the tour and the daily activities were organised really well.
Just basically loved my time in NZ and I would recommend Flying Kiwi to EVERYONE! x

The whole ultimate explorer trip with Flying Kiwi was an awesome experience. The tour offers something for everyone from hiking, biking, swimming, adrenaline activities or just enjoying the amazing landscape of New Zealand. Our tour guides Genna and Franky were fantastic. I can just recommend this trip if you want to get to know the most out of New Zealand in just 28 days.

I have just returned from a Winter Tour with Flying Kiwi. I don't want to gush ,but it really was a great choice. I was travelling with my teenage daughter and didn't know how appropriate it would be with a mixture of ages. From the moment we entered the bus Steely our driver made us feel very relaxed and at ease. We had a range of ages on the trip with lots of characters. It wasn't long before I felt part of a little family on tour!! It doesn't mean you have to be part of the group all the time, there was plenty of time to have alone if you wished. My daughter skied sometimes with others her age while I flew to the wonderful Milford Sound. We were also fortunate enough to have BAREKIWI travelling with us to promote Flying Kiwi tours. They worked very hard together, looking after us all and educating us on facts about this little bit of paradise left on planet earth! It made it a fantastic family trip. It was just as exciting as the stunning, unspoilt and spacious country. Flying Kiwi explores New Zealand off the beaten track, there was lots of options available. It's true New Zealand is expensive, but I would do this again without a second thought. The trip brought unforgettable experiences. It's a 5* from me and 5* from Isabelle.
Thank you Flying Kiwi.

Had the best month with Flying Kiwi in New Zealand! I've traveled in January and kinda took my time with the review 😅 but the tour and the tour guides and every single passenger grew on me that I just have to write something. Better late than never 🙈Everything from activities, planning, people, food, camping equipment and the way that we have been taken care of, was amazing! It was worth every penny, as New Zealand isnt the cheapest country, but I would do it again in a heartbeat and definitely would choose flying Kiwi again. Bente and Robbie-John were the best tour guides ever, made this feel like an awesome family trip!! They invest their whole month in making this a great trip for everyone and of course to also have a great time with us. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to see New Zealand the way I did. Unforgettable ❤ Sabrina from Germany

My Summer Blast Tour with Frankie and Robbie-John really was a blast! Thank you guys for the great job you have done, I have really enjoyed a lot the tour with you both. The organisation on the road was excellent and I always knew what to expect each day. I really enjoyed the group cooking experience and finishing the tour I felt like part of a small family. I really would recommend this trip to anyone who would like to experience an adventure as this was the perfect way for me to experience New Zealand.

I had the most amazing month in New Zealand with Flying Kiwi. I did the Ultimate Explorer Tour, and it packs in as much as it can in the time. I was travelling on my own for the first time, and think that this is a great way to do it. New Zealand is such a big country, with so many things to do, that it seemed a bit daunting to plan it all myself.
But having the guides with us to advise on what to do, and where to go was amazing. They all clearly love their work, and the country and by the end, the group really felt like a family.

On the 3rd November 2013, I did the 27 day Ultimate Explorer Tour. It was incredible! The great thing about Flying Kiwi tours is the variety of choices - you can tailor your holiday to suit your own preferences. Whether you want a lazy day to an action packed day, the choice is yours.
I also loved the fact that it was very easy and cheap to upgrade from a tent to a lodge, if ever you needed some homely comforts or if the weather wasn’t on your side.
The guides Rob and Gabby were amazing people! They were passionate, friendly, knowledgeable and very approachable. They could brighten even the wettest of days!
The food was fresh, healthy and the portions were amazingly big and tasty, especially for a larger group. I even enjoyed cooking as it quick and fun to do.
I met the most wonderful people from ages 18 to 60, who I will never forget and have kept in contact with.
There is too much to praise them about and I would go back and do it all again in the blink of an eye! Thank you Flying Kiwi for a once in a life time experience!

I had a wonderful experience with Flying Kiwi. Shannon and Tom were my guides and they did a great job! They were super well organised and went above and beyond to make the trip fun for everyone. Shannon is a fab cook and we loved hearing Tom's joke of the day (most of the time, they were kind of funny :). Other than the fact that New Zealand is an absolutely beautiful country and that there are a variety of activities to choose from, it wouldn't have been the same without these two! I'm really happy I chose to go with Flying Kiwi (cooking together with new friends, helping each other out with tent set ups, trying something new that I was terrified to do (skydiving) and seeing beautiful NZ through all they great cycling and hiking. Loved every minute!

had a fantastic time on the 28 day Ultimate Explorer tour. met so many wonderful people who are likely to become lifelong friends. such a perfect way to see all of new Zealand in a short amount of time. our tour guides Becca and Aaron were great and really did an awesome job of making everyone feel included and part of the family. the only downside was that a good number of our group doing the ultimate explorer did the "North first" route; we did not, which meant that our last 4 days were with a much smaller group and a completely new tour guide. our new guide Steely didn't seem like he had done this in a while and definitely did not give us the great experience we had for the majority of our tour with Becca. had I known things would end like that, I definitely would have booked the "North first" version. it was a bummer to end the trip on a low note like that, but the rest of it was awesome and I'd totally do it again.

This tour has exceeded all my expectations! Before departure I received an email with my itinerary for each day, detailing the included/optional activities, as well as the meals included during the trip. I also received a suggested packing list, which was extremely useful to prepare myself.
Once onboard the bus the guides welcomed me, explained some important things and helped me integrate by introducing me to the rest of the group. Throughout the tour the guides explained relevant information about the sites we visited, talked about the different hikes and cycle rides and optional activities we could choose to do each day.
The group was very good, we all had a lot of fun and I finished my tour with many new friends and fellow adventurers from New Zealand.
There were many meals included, generally two meals a day. Breakfasts are very complete; everyone prepares their own according to what you want, and lunch are usually sandwiches which you prepare in the morning before leaving camp. Dinner time is a great way to get to know your fellow travelers as every 4 days or so you are involved in a cook group, helping to prepare and cook the meal led by one of the guides. Dinners are healthy and delicious with a lot of variety, always with many vegetables. There are also options if you are lactose/gluten intolerant or vegetarian/vegan.
Camping is more comfortable than I expected, the first day the guides explain how to set up and disassemble the tent. From there it is very simple, and only takes around 15 minutes to setup, including the mattress and the sleeping bag. The camping equipment was good quality which meant there was no need to worry if it was raining at night, you kept warm and dry. The sound of the rain on the tent room was amazing!
When travelling there is much distance to cover but the hours on the bus are very enjoyable, between music, talking with other travelers and enjoying spectacular landscapes. Additionally, there were many stops made to explore the area, take photos, have a coffee or buy anything you need along the way.
It has been an unforgettable trip, I totally recommended it for those who like nature, adventure and meeting new people from all over the world.
I.
If you want to book a tour to see the beautiful nature of New Zealand than you should book flying kiwi. I can highly recommend the ultimate explorer tour. You have many optional activities with a lot of fun. The Guides help you always if you have some questions. The campsites had mostly an amazing view. Thank you very much for the unforgettable journey and the good organisation.

It was an amazing trip with great people from all over the world. It is the best option to see the most of NZ in only 4 weeks with the Ultimate Explorer Tour. I am very happy to feel me now as a part of the flying kiwi family and will visit NZ definitely again.
The Team and the guides were fantastic and the food was delicious, too.
I can’t remember something bad on this great trip.
Thank you for all the beautiful memories.
On instagram you can see some great pictures when you are searching for #flyingkiwimemories

Reverse Traverse From Queenstown
Amazing scenery, wonderful fellow travellers and great activities. I joined the Flying Kiwi team of Jena and Charlene and the other travellers in Queenstown. The group, who had joined the tour in Auckland, were extremely friendly and welcoming.
Within hours the activities began. I and a few others hit the road for a 10K bike ride to our first nights camp. The remaining 13 days up the west coast of New Zealand to Auckland had well planned out activities of more bike rides on bike trails and road. hiking beautiful scenic trails, kayaking, swimming with dolphins and so much more.
The evenings were filled with great opportunities to share stories with fellow travellers as we set up camp, prepared meals, had a fire on the beach in the rain and sang songs.
For me the best part of the tour were the bike rides with my guardian angels Susan and Simon and the overnight kayak, camping and hiking in Abel Tasman National Park.
For anyone interested in a great adventure where you meet a diverse group of people and share various activities, I would highly recommend the Reverse Traverse Flying Kiwi tour. This trip has me strongly considering the Flying Kiwi tour from Auckland to Queenstown which appears to travel down the east side of New Zealand.
Thanks to all my fellow travellers for making this a great experience. Thanks also to Robby John and Frankie our Flying Kiwi team who guided us from Wellington to the Bay of Islands and back to Auckland.

This was an incredible experience with amazing people in astonishing scenery. You cannot ask for more. It has been a life lesson and many images are well kept in my mind. I would like to recommend the trip to all people, young or old, it does not matter. New Zealand will welcome you and you will enjoy the experience of a lifetime. I was a solo traveller, something that could be problematic for some people, but I can assure that you will never feel alone with Flying Kiwi Tours. The ambience is great and this fills you full of energy. You will be able to do activities that you did not ever expect to do. New Zealand is different! Imagine, kiwi’s here sometimes have two legs and a beak! That does not happen anywhere else on the planet!

This January 2019, I had the great privilege of touring with Flying Kiwi on The Ultimate Explorer 28 day tour of New Zealand.
Our tour guide, Becca and our bus driver Aaron were excellent! They went above and beyond to ensure that each and everyone of us had a memorable experience. Aaron was extremely knowledgeable about his beautiful country and the both of them kept us well organized for our busy days of activities.
I could not have asked for better. Thank you so much Becca and Aaron!

After having traveled most of New Zealand on our own, my girlfriend and I decided to travel a part of the South Island with Flying Kiwi. We did the Wild West Tour and had an amazing time! Food? Delicious. Campsites? Beautiful. Free-time? Plenty. Activities? Great selection. Would definitely recommend giving these guys a try if you're planning on traveling to New Zealand!

Flying Kiwi is an incredible company! I completed the Ultimate Explorer Tour and had the time of my life. There is not one thing i would change. From the way the tour is run to the activities offered and the people involved it is really the experience of a lifetime. You are taken to parts of New Zealand you would not discover on your own. From stunning bush camps to great nights out Flying Kiwi provided the perfect balance.
I never wanted this trip to end!

A fantastic, active and fun way to discover New Zealand. Everyday was packed full with beautiful scenery. This is a hands on , boots on way to explore lakes, mountains and forests. We swam, cycled, trekked, climbed, kayaked, walked and sky jumped through the most beautiful, wild and exiting parts of the country. We became experts at putting up and taking down our tents. Mealtimes were social gatherings among friends. Our tour guide and driver, Robbie John and Bende were great! I would recommend this trip to anyone looking for an up close encounter with the awesome New Zealand countryside.

Touring with Flying Kiwi has been the best travel experience I have ever had. It had the perfect combination of outdoor adventures and adrenaline activities. The camping and cooking really provided an authentic and intimate experience with fellow travelers!

We joined the flying kiwi 28-day ultimate explorer tour in December 2015 and we had the pleasure to share our experience with two excellent guides, Kim and Dennis, and quite a few fellow travellers. Although we were sometimes under time pressure, it was definitely the only way to see so much of both islands in this relative short amount of time. The choice of activities was quite large, however I would suggest to plan them in advance, even before the trip, to avoid disappointment, as the most popular ones may be booked up if you chose last minute. Also, if you (like me) are quite sensitive to the cold, I would also suggest to book in advance the cabin upgrades, wherever possible - the very few locations where this is not possible are so beautiful, though, that you will forget the cold quite quickly. We appreciated very much that they catered for us being vegans without any problems and didn't make us feel "weird" in any way. If you want to visit NZ and only have a limited amount of time, we would definitely recommend Flying Kiwi - it's not the most glamorous way to travel, but it's very good value for money and you will see a lot of the country. If you manage to have Kim & Dennis as guides, then, you are in for a treat!

I had the best time while i was on the Flying Kiwi Bus! The Ultimate Explorer Tour is the best way to travel New Zealand. Amazing tour guides, i enjoyed 28 perfect days in NZ. Thank you so much, i loved to be on the Flying Kiwi Bus!

This was hands down the best month of my life. I did the ultimate explorer trip with Flying Kiwi and was blessed to have Aaron and Charlene as my guides along with 20+ of the greatest travelers from around the world. If you are considering taking this trip, my only advice is to quit debating about it and jump in with both feet. Say yes to everything you possibly can and you will be blown away at how great this adventure can be. The activities, camp sites, food, and scenery is hard to beat for the price. And the guides are incredible people that make the entire experience smooth and easy while also becoming great friends on the trip. If you are anything like me and everyone else from my group, the only negative thing you will be able to say at the end is that the trip isn't longer.

What can I say about the holiday I spent with Flying Kiwi. Well truth be told I do have one complaint. Simply that I was not able to do the full 27 days. I booked a 10 day trip that was supposed to be the entire north island. But our leaders Jimmy and Laura as well as the fellow excursionist that were on our bus were so amazing that me and my friend completely changed our itinerary to stay with that group and see part of the south island as well. It was the best decision we could'v made. First we got to see both islands which are so different from each other. Also we got to continue with the people we had grown to love in only 4 days. I would have extended my trip to continue if I could but life got in the way. The sights of NZ are incredible. The crew knows their way and show you the ropes. The excursions are amazing and the service provided by the company is grand.
The camps are nice. There are many chances for upgrades which I didn't take I'm proud to say. Tents were clean and easy to put up. The mat makes all the difference. The bikes were in good working order. The bus was always cleaned during your outings. The food prep blew me away and Laura and Jimmy make every meal taste incredible which I really didn't expect. Some were soooo go you had to have 2 portions. :)
I hope to come see NZ again. And if I do. It's the Flying Kiwi for me there is no question about it. If you are headed to NZ and like fun and adventure. This is the only way to travel. If you can get on Jimmy's ride all that much better. Thank Flying Kiwi for the greatest holiday I've ever had in my entire life.

Best vacation so far! Beautiful country, with a great variety of landscapes and amazing things to see.
But I shall also mention that Franki and Genna made a huge difference on the appreciation of this trip; they managed to create a wonderful and fun chemistry in the group; and the food they prepared every day was beyond my expectations. Sad to learn they are leaving Flying Kiwi to pursue other endeavours…
The travelling company was very well organized, I will definitely recommend it!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect of this tour as I am usually used to traveling alone. But I can honestly say that this was a great experience! The campsites were all very nice, the food was great and the activities were fun! Not once was I ever bored! It didn't feel like an organized tour as we had a lot of free time to do whatever we wanted do. I would definitely recommend this tour company to anyone who is thinking of going to New Zealand and wants to see as much of the country in a short period of time!

Flying Kiwi is a great way to see New Zealand’s highlights and beautiful hidden places within a short period of time! It’s perfect for single travellers like me, because I saved so much time researching and organising my holiday and met so many awesome people while on tour!
The guides are very knowledgeable, well organised, supportive and so much fun. They provided all the important and interesting information about New Zealand and I could just lean back, relax, enjoy the fantastic views or join in the games and quizzes. That way I could save all my energy for the great hikes and unforgettable activities along the way, because it was no doubt an active holiday!
There are heaps of different activities offered for every taste. Doesn’t matter if you are an adrenaline junky or more the laid back type - everyone gets their share! If you don’t want to jump out of a plane, you can just go for a walk and discover the amazing national parks and landscapes New Zealand has to offer. You can be very flexible as there is plenty of free time to choose whatever you like to do.
Also the cook groups were a fantastic way to get to know the other passengers. Even if you have no idea about cooking, the others will help you to prepare the fresh food and in the end it always turned out to be a super delicious and healthy dish. It’s a great team effort and really brings the group together!
The bush camps might sound a bit scary at the beginning, but they are all situated in seriously breath taking locations! Lake Pukaki was definitely my favourite of all! The weather was stunning and the whole group went for a refreshing swim in the lake! So much fun! It was one of the highlights of my trip, along with the Tongariro Crossing, skydiving, swimming with the dolphins and the Hooker Valley hike! Simply stunning!
Overall I had an amazing time with Flying Kiwi and I can absolutely recommend them for an adventurous and exiting holiday! I really enjoyed this trip and I am so sad it’s already over! Thank you so much for this unforgettable experience!

I did the 28 day ultimate explorer tour over the holidays.
Theres a lot of driving each day and I felt the tour was a bit rushed. You don't get to spend a lot of time in each spot and you generally get to the campsites pretty late so you don't have a ton of time to relax. Especially if you are put in their "cook group" for the night where you cook dinner for the group. Cooking takes between one and two hours and really eats up your time.
The guides were very friendly and nice, however, inexperienced. The bus drivers each have done a couple seasons where in both cases it was the guides first trip.
There really is not a lot included with the cost of the trip. Only some of the meals are included and almost none of the activities are included. Everything seems to be optional at an extra cost. Even 3 nights in a hostel were not included. Things that could easily be tailored in with the sticker price. It seemed as they were trying to squeeze every penny out of their clients as they even charged us $15 for a special Christmas dinner and lunch eventhough dinner was already included in our itenary and the only difference was some chocolate.
Throughout the trip I had four different tents. All of which had sand inside prior to use and one even had some sort of bird poop/stain on the inside. Sleeping mats are not cleaning between uses which is gross.
The bus is very nice. Each seat has a USB charger and is comfortable. The sites visited are nice and New Zealand is beautiful.
I would recommend this trip to older people looking to travel with a group that have a bit more money. If you're a younger backpacker I would recommend hiring a campervan. You'll be able to spend more time at cool sites and it will probably be cheaper.

I couldn't recommend Flying Kiwi Tours more. I did just the South Island with them and left wishing I'd done the North too. I wanted a tour that was active, outdoorsy and not a party bus. I wanted beers at the campsites in the evening with likeminded people. The tour was everything I wanted and more - incredible scenery, well organised and knowledgable staff (Genna and Charlene were exceptional), jam packed without feeling hectic and at the end I was very sad to say goodbye to the tent, bus and people that had been my home and family for the 19 days.

I just returned from the 19 day Summer Blast tour of the south island of NZ. I can see why National Geographic gave a thumbs up to Flying Kiwi. Wow, what an adventure. I am so glad I went with Flying Kiwi. I am a 56 year old female and I went solo. I was afraid I would be the oldest on the trip, but there were people my age and older. The majority of people were younger, but that didn't seem to matter. Most people travelled solo too. I really enjoyed the other travelers on this trip, I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to travel with. We were from all over the world so it provided an opportunity to learn about life in other countries.
I was fortunate to have Vinny and Hannah as tour guides. Vinny drove the bus and trailer masterfully and Hannah took care of booking any of the activities that I wanted to do. There was no pressure to book, she just provided the information as to what the options were for the day and then came around later to see who wanted to sign up for what. Both Vinny and Hannah were a lot of fun to be around. They played some excellent music on the bus too.
Flying Kiwi has everything down to a science. On long days of driving we would stop for bathroom breaks, lunch, and scenic walks. Those who rented bicycles were given options of when they got out to ride. It never felt like too much time on the bus, even though we covered a lot of miles.
Considering the cooking was done on propane burners in a traveling kitchen the food was very good. They were even able to accommodate my vegetarian diet.
The tour guides are really there to accommodate the travelers needs. It took all the pressure of traveling off and I was able to do this trip stress free. The adventures were fantastic too. My favorites were the Routeburn Track backpacking trip, the sea kayaking and the swim with the dolphins.
My only complaint is that I might now be spoiled for group travel as the bar has been set very high.
Thanks Flying Kiwi and Vinny and Hannah!!!

I was fortunate enough to join this trip at Auckland for 15 days from the 12th December until the 26th December 2017 with one of my friends. From the offset we were greeted with warm smiles from people all over the world.
Our tour guides were Tom and Shannon, who were a great team, always jolly, knowledgeable, time efficient, and had amazing/delicious recipes for the evenings when we cooked at camp. Although they were leading a group of 30 people, they never appeared stressed, always smiling and really looked after us all, especially on Christmas Day where there were games, fancy dress and delicious food.
Every stop was a new exciting adventure with a variety of activities available for all ages but the people on the trip made it a more memorable experience. The majority of people on the tour were solo travellers and I quickly discovered we were all very likeminded with some becoming lifelong friends. Waking up early morning to pack up our tent never felt like a chore, and my friend and I started timing ourselves. Our record was 9 minutes for putting it up! We saw some breath taking places in a short space of time and it definitely felt like we had truly experienced the highlights along our route. We booked onto several activities along the way: Tamaki Maori Village, Dolphin swim, Skydive, Milford Sound Cruise, which were all booked through Shannon on the coach.
It will take me a long time to forget this holiday and I would encourage anyone who has a sense of adventure, is open minded and has a good spirit to join Flying Kiwi. You won’t be disappointed.

A complete careless enjoyment of the ruggedness of New Zealand's nature with the company of a friendly group of people. That 's what I've experienced by traveling with Flying Kiwi Adventure Tours. Apart from it being particularly convenient way of traveling is you get at a fast pace in the most beautiful places in the country .
With Flying Kiwi a team spirit is very rapidly formed thanks to the setting and the good tour guides. The combination of a busdriver and an assistant knowing a lot about New Zealand worked great! Every day there was the opportunity to choose from several activities and even if you'd have enough of just nature itself, there is always an option to walk though nature. This way you can make travel even cheaper, the landscape itself surely already has plenty to offer you.
Sometimes you travel long distances on one day and you can feel a bit like you're 'rushing' across the country, but because you are traveling with a group even the parts you spend in the bus are a pleasure! You get in, sit down, chat with your new made friends, some nice tunes are played and a little while later you arrive on your next destination!
I 'm very glad I booked a mountain bike with my tour. That magic moment you get off the bus to put on your bike gear and get on your bike to go up and down the hills and mountains and race through nature is amazing! In the evening you easily put up your tent and have a relaxing dinner with all the fun people you've met on the bus. Apart from just having nice company, you'll make international friends for lifetime and will always have a place to stay on your next worldtrip! Flying Kiwi Tours is the ultimate recommendation to give to anyone I know who wants to travel the magnificent New-Zealand!

Just returned to uk following a fantastic experience on the Ultimate Explorer trip departing Auckland 25/10/13. The next 27 days were amazing.I didn't really know what to expect of the country before I set off but to say that the things I saw and did blew me away is an understatement and and experience I will never forget. The group leader, Jimmy was so knowledgeable, his sense of humour passed on to all of us and he is also a bloody good cook. Helping out with the food preparation is an enjoyable part of the Flying Kiwi experience and to have caught the fish you are eating makes it taste even better! Yes, even I managed to contribute to the table although I was more interested in watching the albatross and petrels scrap over the discarded guts than landing fish for supper.
There are so many opportunities to experience new activities or even relive old ones . I hadn't ridden a horse for years but spent a wonderful 3 hours riding through Lord of the Rings country outside Queenstown without ending up with a sore bum or wet feet. The reason my feet didn't get wet when crossing rivers is mainly due to the fact that I am a bit on the small side and ride with very short stirrups! (Sometimes lack of size is advantageous).
Don't worry about your age if thinking of booking a trip with Flying Kiwi it is just like travelling with a big happy family of like minded people who enjoy fun and experiencing new things and there are activities available for everyone. If you have the time the Ultimate Explorer is for you, the scenery is breath taking the places visited will amaze you and along the way you will make new friends
Enjoy your time in New Zealand as much as I did.

National Geographic called it right in 2009 putting Flying Kiwi on the very select list of, "Best Adventure Companies on Earth." I can't say enough about what a great company this is. I felt I was in ‘good hands’ (very safe) and tons of fun with Kim and Dennis! No worries, lots of fun in a beautiful country full of lovely people – I love NZ!!” The office was superb at communicating and answering any question I had. I was looking for reviews to evaluate if this trip was right for me. I'm a 57 yr old who did most of her camping 26 years ago. So, for those who might feel any concern of being older than most of the travelers.....age didn't matter. I felt so welcome by everyone of all ages. What a great opportunity to meet what will turn out to be very special friends from all over the world of all different ages and do cool things every day. I call it my MOM GAP YEAR.....never heard that term in the US. I'll say, I'm over the tenting for now (it was all part of the fun though) and loved the upgrades but I would absolutely book with Flying Kiwi if they had another adventure in a different country. I understand they have a partner company they recommend and I'll look into it. So many options are offered to customize your trip. I give it a 10....you will too! It truly is as described by FK and more!

I joined flying kiwi in December 2015 for the summer blast tour, hoping for something slightly more outdoorsy and less mainstream than city hostels and I found just that! I actually joined the tour a day earlier than the published dates and stayed on for another two days extra to see fox glacier, which was really cool of flying kiwi staff to enable me to do as easily and effortlessly as they did.
Flying Kiwi went above and beyond from the very start of contact, through the flexibility and booking, the very patient and informative replies to a plethora of questions I asked and through to picking me up at particular spot. The tour leader, Rob, and assistant, Claudia, were amazing and had absolutely exceeded my expectations in every way! They were both always willing to help, both being fountains of knowledge and yet very happy to find out answers to questions they weren't sure about. Their patience (how were they so patient with us???) and good humored nature absolutely made this trip as fun and happy as it was, not to mention they were both hilarious! I was especially impressed with how quickly they could think on their feet and act in unexpected situations, seeing as they do work with people and so there are many unexpected circumstances they have to deal with using their best judgement and initiative and I felt they delivered on this very well.
And the food, oh the food!!!! I took pictures of the recipe folder to use as ideas with friends back home!
basically I just loved the experience! I cannot imagine a better planned trip!
Only drawback I felt was that although trying to keep us active, in order to cover as much ground as we did we had to drive a lot (Why am I complaining? Rob was the one doing all the driving....) which made me pretty sleepy and go into lazy mode.... Thankfully Rob managed to counteract that effect somewhat by hogging the mic and monologuing us with combinations of local histories (peppered with sarcasm to make it interesting), songs, etc. :0

I had an amazing time with Flying Kiwi. It was not only about the stunning nature of New Zealand, but also about travelling in a group with likeminded people that became very good friends!! Thanks to Genna and Franki for being so wonderful and committed tour guides!!
J.
“When we decided to visit NZ for our 30th anniversary, we investigated a number of options. Flying Kiwi was our choice because of its outdoor, off the beaten track focus. We were able to enjoy so much of NZ without any hassles. The trip succeeded brilliantly!”
T.
Following some feedback I have found on the Internet, I chose the ultimate explorer as I didn't have much time for planning my holiday before I left. There are so many things to see, explore and activities to do. The guides were just amazing, as were the travel mates. We had a real kiwi experience that included landslides, all kind of weather and a volcano eruption. Each time, the guides have been very reactive and adjusted to the current conditions. The balance between very active and relaxing days is nice; just loved the tour!
M.
I'm still over the cloud nine with my experience with Flying Kiwi tour! Everything was great and it really was beyond my expectations (food, activities, tour guides). Tom and Shan were always there to help with booking or any questions. I can't wait for my next adventure!
M.
I had a fantastic tour. I highly recommend the ‘Flying Kiwi’ experience. You are not just a number to this tour company. You are a wonderful individual who they want to experience NZ at its finest. They go above and beyond from the booking experience to the final minutes of your tour. Franki even does a personalised guide to what to do post-tour before you leave the island!
Genna and Franki are a dynamic duo who enthusiastically mould a group of diverse individuals into a tight-knit team in lightning speed with wicked ease. They are simply awesome eh!!
J.
I had Shan n Tom as our fantastic guide -- their advice/planning pre-empted a lot of hassle and pitfalls. They are well organised but still full of fun. The choice of campsites are great, with one located within walking distance to a hot water beach.
The weather could not have been better for my trip. I was lucky also to have joined a team of travellers that value PUNCTUALITY. Flying Kiwi's daily schedule is quite tight. Often there are 2-3 parallel options, ranging from low to high energy. In any case, the demand on physical fitness is medium to high depending on the activity.
R.
Had the best experience with flyingkiwi. A brilliant way to discover so many of the must see's and do's in New Zealand. We had a real friendly, family feel with the people on board with individuals from all countries and ages. The guides always went above and beyond to help!
Good homemade food most nights but opportunity to eat out at some great locations along the way.
There is every opportunity to do the full range of amazing activities: from white water rafting to canyoning, from bungey jumping to sky diving, which they will sort without breaking sweat. Just make sure you budget for them as they are optional extras!
If hiking, biking, camping and the outdoors is your bag then this trip is a winner! I would fully recommend it #justdoit
N.
I have to say, this was the best time in my life, spent travelling round the South Island of New Zealand with Flying Kiwi as a part of the student´s trip. I could not have chosen better :). I like the opportunity to do whatever you feel like, whether it is biking, walking, doing an adrenalin activity, or just chill in beautiful countryside. We saw the best "must go" places and did the most amazing "must do activities like bungee-jump, skydive, kayaking, walking through a Glacier... New Zealand is stunning and it is more when you explore it with such nice guides and people. And last but not least, the food was delicious :).
So do not hesitage and jump up at this chance. You will absolutelly love it :).
S.
Had the most amazing time, great tour – full of information and fun. Beautiful country, beautiful people!!
We had some seriously bad weather, which was dealt with excellently and expertly by our wonderful guides. The food was fantastic, the organisation was wonderful. The metaphor about ducks dswimmin, calm on top but paddling like crazy underneath comes to mind; our guides (Genna and Franki) worked so crazy hard to make sure we had the best time and we certainly did!
Thanks again flying kiwi.

My wife and I decided to go on an adventure for our honeymoon. We were a bit hesitant initially about traveling with a bunch of strangers on a bus…but ever since our 14 days with the FK crew on the Grand Traverse, we have been itching to go back out there with them!! We had the time of our lives, and made great lifelong friends. Each day was a different adventure, and there was always something to do that interest you. The destinations were beautiful, the food was great, and accommodations were very comfortable… can't beat a tent over looking an emerald blue lake with Mount Cook in the background. If you want to see my video, go onto Youtube and type in "Honeymoon adventure with Flying Kiwi". Thanks FK!!!
G.
Three months later and I still talk about this trip like it was yesterday. What a great adventure! Everyone started as strangers and quickly became supportive friends. I tried things I never would do alone!!
K.
I did the south summer blast in January 2016 with Tom and Shannon. If you are on the road with Tom and Shannon you're guaranteed to have a brilliant holiday . We had a great group atmosphere, great meals , Tom and Shan were great fun but always professional and even kept our spirits up on those days when the rain just wouldn't end. I loved the activities available and the guys were really knowledgeable and always able to give great advise on all the options . I would do it all again ! 😊
M.
“It was the best way to get around NZ and see the most things in a short time. We had amazing tour guides who organised things very well. I loved to camp every night in a different place and eat an amazing dinner!!”
M.
I totally enjoyed my trip, even more than I was expecting at first. Craig and Anna simply made my trip memorable. I find that the travelling and conditions were exceptional for an adventure tour, so good job!
J.
Awesome tour with Charlene and Genna. 14 wonderful days starting from the south ending in the north February 8 to 22. As an indigenous woman from Canada, it was wonderful to have a Maori guide - shout out to Charlene, such a caring and warm individual. And shout out to west coast native Genna what a story teller. Kia ora. Judy
S.
An authentic, real New Zealand experience. Camping at beautiful places, very well organised showing us the all the pearls of NZ. I learned a lot from Tom and Shan about NZ nature and culture. Epic!!
A.
Flying Kiwi is the best way of experiencing New Zealand! Genna and Franki are the greatest guides ever!
The only regret is no doing the longest one!
I’ll be back!

I couldn’t think of a better way to see New Zealand. As a solo traveller, this trip allowed me to meet new people and the culture and the country without having to worry about anything. The best experience I’ve ever had.
이.
Flying KiWi is very lucky enough to employ such a nice guiges.
Our tour could perfact with the help of 4 guides, Bratt, Joe, Grant, Emma.
Grant & Emma took us to our camping site after our trip with Flying Kiwi.
To help us, they could not eat lunch.
Thank you again Grant & Emma.
My daughter misses Joe & Bratt.
They are more than perfact during the tour.
Thanks Flying Kiwi and fantastis guides.
L.
Exceptional crew and fellow travellers. Amazing locations to visit that I would not have stumbled upon otherwise. Our tour guides Aaron and Becca went above and beyond to make the entire journey a unique and unforgettable experience!
K.
From North to South East to West, the trip was unreal!
I came in with no real expectations but any that I could have imagined were most certainly surpassed from the tangariro corossings blizzardy awesome adventures to kicking it bush wacking styles in punakaiki and surviving the wind storms of rangitati the sights, sounds and adventures just kept flying our way.
The ultimate explorer was by far the way to go from bushes to beaches, beaches to waterfalls, tenting to blow holes!!
Be sure to to take advantage of all the trekks, outings, activities, and even kitchen duties rest assure you will have no regrets.
If you are as lucky as I was and get Vincent as your driver/guide be sure to snag some one on one time with him to ask him a whack load of questions as this extremely passionate and very knowledgeable local knows his country, from flora to fauna North to South and all the interesting facts in between. Also be sure to ask him about some of his off the beaten track spots to hit up post trip!
Keep up the good work and endless efforts as they do not go unrecognized!
Many thanks flying Kiwi!

One of the best ways to see NZ! Had an absolutely wonderful time exploring this beautiful country with the Flying Kiwi crew - would recommend it to anyone who is yet to explore this part of the world!
A.
Great holiday, was exactly what l was looking for with a good variety of people, experiences and campsites. Frankie and Robbie John were great guides, l felt l got to really experience the variety of the South Island
D.
I had read a lot of the earlier reviews on Flying Kiwi and so my expectations were already high, but they were exceeded in so many ways. If I had to choose just one thing (amongst many) that stood out, it would be the kindness and generosity of spirit of the Kiwi people themselves.
B.
The whole trip was awesome, amazing country, fantastic tour with wonderful people. Thank you Flying Kiwi.
J.
“I think this is the best way of getting the most out of NZ in a short time. People (Flying Kiwi crew and other customers) were amazing. I am very happy we did this”

(Translated) I did the 8-day tour Northern Hikers with Flying Kiwi and I have to say it was the right decision! Especially for people who do not have a lot of time available and do not want to give up nice company. It was very easy to get to know nice and interesting people through the tour and you do not have to worry that you have to trot alone in New Zealand. Also the tour guides helped to support this atmosphere and were always good for a story or a joke. This eased the part-long rides and helped make New Zealand an unforgettable adventure. The food was good and in the kitchen was cooked together in the evenings, which was also very communicative. The equipment of Flying Kiwi was high quality and no cheap scrap (no matter if bike, sleeping bag or tent). It was just a great experience! Thank you for this great experience!

(Translated) Thanks for the cool experience. A one-time trip ... excellent 28 days around the two islands of New Zealand. The tour guides were especially good :) super cool and funny people who know how to keep the group happy.
Thought that I was not the person for a bus tour, but due to the many walks and the opportunity to grab the bike and explore New Zealand itself, it was great :) No long trips on the bus, but more explore and experience :) Best Time of My Life - Thank you Flying Kiwi :)

Time of My Life - Vielen Dank Flying Kiwi :)

(Translated) I participated in the longest tour of Flying Kiwi, the Ultimate Explorer, and explored both islands of New Zealand. The landscapes and places I was brought to were just amazingly beautiful, the activities were unique and the group evenings in the group unforgettable. I would do this tour again anytime and can only recommend it. The tour guides will see you with any questions and were very competent. The food is always fresh and was very good. The camps we stayed in had incredible views, especially the camps, which are right on lakes or the ocean, I really liked. Thanks for this great adventure!
