Fantastic experience doing the NZ Mountaineering course with Queenstown Mountain Guides. Mike was great! He has a huge amount of experience and an easy going approach to everything which made for the perfect trip! Would 100% recommend.

Thank you so much to Mike for guiding us through our NZ mountaineering course based on the Tasman Glacier. We had an epic 6 days in the mountains learning brand new skills and putting them into practice by climbing some of the peaks nearby. Mike was excellent at catering to individual needs within the group and everyone got a lot out of the course! HIGHLY recommend Mike and his team from QMG!

Completed the NZ Mountaineering Course and learnt a tonne of skills and had a great experience. Mike Madden provided great guideance and ensured we were well equiped with all the necessary knowledge and tools for our objectives. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to feel confident moving around in the mountains and improving there own experiences.

Great experience! Thanks for the patiently shared knowledge, looking forward to apply these new skills in the alpine environment 🙂
The only thing that I could possibly change would be to eat my own menu! 🥑 🌮 🌶️

Just completed a fantastic 1.5 day avalanche course with the QT Mountain Guides team. Great evening theory lesson followed by a day practical course. Learnt heaps and met some great people keen to explore. Would recommend.

Can’t recommend this highly enough!! We did the Remarkables Tower Scramble and had such an incredible time! We went with Mike who was professional and made sure were were equipped for the conditions. It was a rewarding challenge - the views from the top of the mountain are so worth it.

We had a fantastic experience! Our guide, Mark, took us up Single Cone in the Remarkables and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Mark was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and encouraging. We could tell he knew his stuff and took safety seriously. He also judged our abilities really well and chose to bring us up a route that challenged us just the right amount. Mike was also very helpful and responded quickly through the whole booking process. We’d absolutely recommend Queenstown Mountain Guides.

My girlfriend and I booked a day rock climbing with Mike. It was the best day of our trip! We had been climbing indoors for about a year and this was our first time climbing outdoors. Mike was an excellent guide, setting everything up, and teaching us the basics of climbing outside. It always felt like we were in safe hands. There were plenty of easy climbs to get us comfortable and in a beautiful location too. Couldn't recommend this trip more highly.

Great experience!! Mike is a fantastic and experienced guide who knows the mountains like the back of his hand (or glove!). I did the Grand Traverse with Mike, which was a nice challenge without requiring expert climbing skills. And the views from up there are something else.

Did an intro to mountaineering with Mike in Mt Cook/Aoraki National Park and had an awesome time. Mike is an incredibly experienced guide with a wealth of knowledge about the mountains as well as being a fun person to hang out with.
We had great weather and spent most of our time outdoors and I learned basics like roping up for glacier travel, using crampons and an ice axe. Because he knew the area so well Mike was able to be relatively flexible with plans.
He also had some great advice for what to do in my other days in NZ and for future mountaineering. Looking forward to another trip!

I booked a 1-week trip with Mike and it was awesome! We did something every day. Mike has a lot of knowledge and is a very good guide. He also cooks nice food and it was fun with him. I can recommend him 100%!

Due to the COVID-19 border lockdown, I had to cancel my 2020 mountaineering course. I am devastated!!! My excellent QMG experience relates to pre booking communication, ease of booking, equipment advice and in the end the cancellation advice and the prompt refund of my full deposit. Thanks Mike, I will definitely re-book with QMG when the borders open.

We enjoyed our day touring trip and felt like we had the best conditions possible for that timeframe (September). Manu was very friendly and patient with our group. He was great on proposing various options as the day went on and according to the snow conditions. Overall a really good experience!

It was a pleasure for me to have spent my time in the New Zealand mountains with you. Very professional, very reliable and just what i was looking for!
The training was way better than i expected, and the guiding was superb.
I totally recommend QMG to anyone ( beginner or experienced) who is looking for a great training / guiding trip.
Thank you for everything!

I did the avalanche awareness course (1 lecture and 1 day on the field) with Mike and Jono. Although there was not much snow at the time, they made it work. We looked at lots of avalanche terrain around the Remarks and they asked us questions that related to what we had learned at the lecture. They put a huge emphasis on trip planning, which is a part that is often forgotten or neglected. It was great to see what kind of routine they had. We also looked at the snowpack, searched for buried transceivers individually and as a group. At the end, we hiked up a gully behind Curvey and skied down as we would have if there was a risk of avalanche (our group did the leap frog technique). That was real fun too :)
Anyways, all in all, it was a great couple days. It really made me want to learn more about the backcountry and I will definitely be signing up for a longer course when they offer one :)

Fantastic staff great content. Its very evident that the teaching comes from a very long time and alot experience in the mountains. The only thing to improve is consisiatency between instructors.

Incredible experience! It is not an everyday thing to climb a mountain and learn fundamental skills while doing so. This is a great activity for anyone who is looking for a challenge, then a mesmerising view as the reward. Absolutely beautiful!
