S.I must say felt a bit expensive while booking but it's worth it especially for first time kayakers like me. Our guide Tom was fabulous. The experience, of heading into caves and sitting beneath so many glow worms, is something I'll cherish. Been to other similar experiences but one cannot get any closer to these astonishing creatures.

S.My husband and I did a paddle boarding tour on a gorgeous summer afternoon at Lake Okareka. Our guide Jonathan was relaxed, friendly and experienced. We went around the coast of the lake, through some caves, to a beach for a swim, and then did some cliff jumping into the lake on the way back. Jonathan fit the tour to our level of experience and sense of adventure. An absolutely awesome experience. Highly recommend.
M.We had such a great time. There is so much to take in on this tour, from the glow worms to many other animals and critters like owls and freshwater crayfish. We paddled across the mirror lake under a clear milky way with a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. I would highly recommend this tour!
C.A great opportunity to see glow worms in this unique experience. The boarding takes a little practice but I was standing pretty soon, even as a first timer. If you go in Autumn make sure to take warm clothes that aren't made of cotton- it gets cold when the sun goes down.

S.The weather might not have been ideal, but this was out of anyone's control and added to our experience in a way that made it unforgettable! We had a blast kayaking on the lake, some small waves made for a fun filled experience. The wind was a bit cooler than expected, but the guides geared us up from top to toe and ensured we had a great time with a short stop for some yummy hot chocolate! This was a night we will never forget and treasure forever as it was a unique experience with amazing guides who made it all extra special.

P.Meow! We went on a paddle board and glow worms tour last January, as the evening began. We were all beginners, our family of four aged 30-65. We paddled to the caves and the twinkle of the glow worms was so cool!
There’s some physical fitness involved, it was worth it for a magical experience of gliding on the lake at night. Our tour guide was very nice and was knowledgeable of the area too.
I usually don’t like to get my paws wet and the worms didn’t look like good kitty food but I had a magical time. 5 paws! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
J.I went on a Paddle Board tour back in January and it was beyond fantastic. We had a pretty small group, right at Sunset. The guides were very helpful in teaching me how to paddle board (it was my first time) and also making this tour a very uniquely and personal experience. The guides really do care both about the environment you are in, and your experience. Not only were the guides great, but the glow worms were super cool. You got to paddle right into the caves with them and just stare up as if it were a starry night sky. 11/10 would recommend

B.This was one of the highlights of my time in New Zealand! We did the evening kayaking tour into the glow worm caves. They pick up and drop off in convenient spots around town and they provided all the gear including optional wetsuits and shoes. The caves were so cool! The pace was leisurely so you don't need to be in great shape to keep up or anything and you get lots of time in the caves to see the glow worms. We did this for our last night in New Zealand before heading back to the US and it was a really great way to close out the trip.

Glow worm tour on kayak done in October, good balance between having enough night time and having relatively mild temperatures (really glad we have gloves, don’t forget them!).

R.They provided good quality equipment for the evening paddle to see the glowworms. The process went quickly, and the guide gave clear directions. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The lake at sunset was beautiful, and then peaceful and calm after sunset. The area is safe for even beginners to paddle and very enjoyable. We visited several intriguing features along the lakeshore and saw several groups of glowworms, which are fascinating to see. It was very relaxing and uncrowded.
C.I did the glow worm paddleboard tour - it was so amazing!! Unfortunately it rained the night I selected, and I was worried that the trip wouldn't be enjoyable. I was wrong! The rain stopped just when we were ready to get in the water, and the lake was smooth as glass when we paddled out. My guide was great, and taught me the ropes (I had paddleboarded once before). The caves themselves were so cool - so many little spots to paddle into and admire! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone - it was a great tour and I had a wonderful guide.

Just kayaking at dusk is a great family adventure...but then you enter the glow worm caves! Amazing. In one of the caves we felt like we were in a star wars movie surrounded by constellations of glow worms. It was awe-inspiring. And you are so close to the action with hundreds of glow worms so close.
For family adventure and shared experiences your children will never forget - do this tour. Its not just for families too - if you love the outdoors and don’t mind getting a few drips of water on you you’ll love this tour!

In contrast to the massive glow worm caves in Waitomo where you're on a huge boat with tons of other visitors, you paddle board out to a small glow worm cave where just a few go in at a time, so it feels like you're experiencing it all for yourself, up close and personal. The water is so peaceful so it's great for beginner paddleboarders as well, and so serene take in at night!
Definitely worthwhile to do as a night activity while you're stopping over in Rotorua, and save yourself the drive to Waitomo!
S.It was our last night in New Zealand and we desperately wanted to see the glow worms. The weather was super overcast and rainy, not ideal but we were determined to make it work. They asked us many times throughout the day if we wanted to cancel or reschedule as they very much wanted it to be perfect for us but we had no time left and if they were ok to take us, we’d be there. Turned out to be one of the best nights of our entire trip!! They provided wet suits And hot chocolate since the weather was so bad but the lake was so warm we didn’t need either. Seeing the glow worms in their natural, undisturbed habitat after an awesome paddle board tour and learning all about the local culture, seeing those worms glow like stars, simply unreal! Cannot recommend these guys more!
r.Got to experience the moonlight glow worm paddle, and it was a magical experience! Everything went off without a hitch, the crew was professional, knowledgeable and super friendly! (We did waitomo caves after, but much preferred the paddle experience) hoping the borders open again around march, our eyes are set on the south island, but if we do make it north we will definitely book again!

One of the easier tours to do as the team picked me up from my hostel, provided all equipment (including wetsuit) and dropped us back at the hostel afterwards.

We ended up at Lake Tarawera which was beautifully sheltered from the southerly. The sun came out and we had a lovely few hours on the lake. D.Matt and Nev have got a great thing going! Being just 10-15 minutes from the city is also a huge plus for short term travelers that still want to experience Rotorua. An absolutely breathtaking trip that is a must-do while you enjoy your stay. They picked us up from our hotel promptly and were super friendly the entire trip. After arriving back home and realizing on the way that my hiking pants were left at their shop, they assured us they’d mail them when found. A month after being home and a package with my pants were delivered. Above and beyond

A.Although we had booked the paddle board tour, due to the wind and choppy water that evening, our guide adapted and we got switched to kayak. He was very patient with the various levels of experience of the kayakers, slowing down and even dragging others behind his kayak when they couldn't keep up. The actual caves were absolutely magical - we were given all the time we wanted to enjoy the moment and took full advantage to lay back and gaze.

Nev took us to the beautiful Lake Tarawera and he was fun, patient and helpful. We really enjoyed the addition of jumping off the rope swing into the water! I was in New Zealand for 3 weeks and this tour was one of my absolute highlights.

C.The evening kayak tour was an amazing experience! We really enjoyed the quiet and peaceful lake at night despite getting rained on. We got to see lots of stars later at night, and kayaking under such a bright moonlight was really cool. There were so many glow worms in the caves and that was something out of this world. We'd like to thank Tom and Amy- both of them were super friendly and nice. Tom told us all about glow worms in such a nice and entertaining way and I really enjoyed learning about them. As there were only two teams inc. us, we got a lot if attention and help throughout the tour (it was my second time kayaking so needed some help from the hosts and my kayak partner). Thanks so much!

My girlfriend and I booked a glow worm tour. However, as there were thunderstorms that day, the tour was canceled. However, Matt had offered us the tour for the day after.
Said and done.
Matt picked us up at our accommodation and we drove to the lake in a small group of six. There were a few instructions from Matt beforehand. We were absolute beginners as we had never stood on a paddleboard before. However, it worked right away. The life jacket and wetsuits didn't make us cold. We paddled across the lake to a small ledge. We jumped into the water and climbed the side of that little cliff. From there we jumped into the deep water. Matt also took pictures and videos of us. Then when it was dark we finally went to the cave with the "fireflies"
We lay on our backs and Matt pushed us into the cave. It was amazing! It's wonderful to have seen something like this live. One cannot imagine what nature has to offer. We were also able to take photos and videos (one reason why we decided against Waitomo - that doesn't work there)
Matt was a great tour guide. He is very personable and you can talk to him quickly.

Meine Freundin und ich hatten eine Glow Worm Tour gebucht. Da es an diesem Tag jedoch Gewitter gab wurde die Tour abgesagt. Matt hatte uns jedoch direkt für den Tag danach die Tour angeboten.
Gesagt getan.
Matt hatte uns an unserer Unterkunft abgeholt und wir fuhren in einer kleinen Gruppe insgesamt zu sechs an den See. Dort gab es vorab ein paar Instruktionen von Matt. Wir waren absolute Anfänger da wir noch nie auf einem Paddleboard gestanden haben. Jedoch hat es auf Anhieb geklappt. Durch die Schwimmweste und die Wetsuits wurde uns nicht kalt. Wir paddelten über den See bis zu einem kleinen Felsvorsprung. Wir sprangen ins Wasser und kletterten an der der Seite dieser kleinen Klippe hinauf. Von dieser sprangen wir dann ins das tiefe Wasser. Matt machte dabei auch Bilder und Videos von uns. Danach als es dunkel war ging es endlich zu der Höhle mit den "Glühwürmchen"
Wir haben uns auf den Rücken gelegt und Matt schob uns in die Höhle hinein. Es war Unglaublich! Es ist wunderschön so etwas Live erlebt zu haben. Man kann es sich nicht vorstellen was die Natur alles zu bieten hat. Wir konnten dabei auch Fotos und Videos machen (ein Grund warum wir uns gegen Waitomo entschieden hatten - dort geht das nicht)
Matt war ein Super Tour guide. Er ist sehr sympathisch und man kommt mit ihm schnell ins Gespräch.
Sehr zu empfehlen!
