G.Excellent service! Gloria and the team were so helpful, thoughtful and interesting. If you're planning on doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing definetly book the shuttle service with Backyard Tours, a local business run by people who have a true connection to the land. Thank you for making our day seamless and bringing the cold beer!
M.Great service, local business. Accommodated my last minute booking, clear communication. Timely pickup, clean bus. Maori blessing at the start of the hike. Left my hiking poles in the bus by mistake and a quick phone call later, they left the poles by my car at the parking lot. Parking lot is shared between other shuttle companies.
D.Amazing service. We got picked up at our accommodation on time, 5:30am, and we were greeted by a driver with a great attitude. A bit of trivial along the way was nice to experience and then we got sent off with a prayer and blessings for our hike. Once we got back we had cold beers and sodas waiting in the shuttle. 10/10 would recommend.
J.Can’t rave enough about what an awesome service Backyard Tours provide. Due to weather we had to change our booking serval times and they were flexible, friendly and accommodating. When we did manage to actually use their services the driver arrived on time, he was friendly, helpful and sent us on our way with a Karakia to give us safe passage over the Tongariro Crossing. The collection process was easy, “text when you reach this point on the crossing and we’ll meet you at the bottom with a cold beverage and smile”
We took a little longer than normal to reach the meeting point so the driver came looking for us and texted to see if we were ok.

G.You made our trip across the Tongariro Crossing such a breeze! You were on time picking us up in the morning and after our tramp, and even gave us cold drink at the end of the trip! Such friendly and awesome people! Definitely recommend this company!
S.Highly recommend Backyard Tours. Our driver was very friendly and gave us interesting historic facts on the way, guided us properly what to do and what not for safe hike. He checked on us for our safe return, waiting at the end of the track. Ensured our safe return and dropped us back to the car park. They also checked on our safe return via phone.
I will definitely go through them next time.

A.Amazing trip, I’m glad that I met such a kind and gentle bus driver!! I did the Tongariro Northern Circuit, and the driver has the kindness to take me to Gollums Pool , so I can completed the view of the waterfalls. He also shared with me a bit of cultural history. God bless the bus driver and give the company a wonderful year 😁😁😁😁
H.Awesome customer service! We were running a little late and they had no problems ensuring our arrival to the crossing. Very easy to communicate with and punctual on arrival to pick us up after the walk. The free poles that we could borrow were a must, and the cold brews provided afterwards were awesome. Would recommend this company to anyone looking to book! Very friendly people!
C.We were so happy to find Backyard Tours last-minute on our trip to Tongariro National Park. Gloria & Brendan picked us up from our accommodation in Taupo, telling us the history of the park and Maori people along the way, dropping us at the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk. They then picked us up at the end, offered us a celebratory beer before taking us back to our hotel. I highly recommend them for anyone wanting to do the crossing, parking can be very difficult and this door-to-door personalized service is so worth it, especially after 7 hours of hiking!
